My oldest son made a necklace for me in grade school from shrinky dink I still have it. He is 54 now. I would like to make some of the shrinky dinks in todays video for my Granddaughters.
I have my sons shrinky dinks bracelet that he made me. He’s only 30, but I completely understand your nostalgia! I have grandkids too and we shrinky dink often! It’s still very much a FUN memory to make! I wish you so very much joy!
Thank you for sharing this. I wanted to try the shrinks dink but was overwhelmed. I appreciate you providing this and being such an awesome teacher. I love your tutorials they are so easy to follow and learn from. Thank you and merry Christmas
Love these and can't wait to make them. This brings back a lot of memories. 🙂 Thanks so much Jennifer and team so appreciate everything you all do! 🙂 ❤️
Thanks Jennifer, Lovely video. I made Shrinky Dinks last year but used my Heat Gun to shrink them with, not the best way but fast. I like your way Much better. Thanks for Tutorial and all your hard work from you and your team.🎄
The tutorial was great and I followed all of your tips and tricks. Unfortunately for me this was an epic fail. I don't know if it was the brand of shrink plastic I used or if the pictures were too curvy. The shrink curled up and I was unable to flatten it. Yes, I followed the directions for flattening it, but to no avail. Bummer
I loved creating with shrinky dinks as a child. I found an off brand at Hobby Lobby. I didn't know the name brand was still available!!! I HAVE TO GET THEM!!
Why do mine have like dimples in middle. I've tried pulling them out early and flattening I've left them in and I've tried different plastics. It's like they all have pucker/dimples in middle
Sometimes uneven heating can cause dimples or puckering. Try using a consistent heat source and ensure the oven is preheated properly. After heating, you can try placing a flat, heavy object on top of the shrinky dinks while they are still warm to help flatten them out. Be careful not to burn yourself. Since you've tried different methods, it might be helpful to experiment with the timing and temperature to find the optimal settings for your specific materials.
Hi Jennifer thanks for this video - I have a question about what printers you use. I thought I heard you say something before about eco-tank type printer... please can you send me the name of it?
How do i click on notify me. I have clicked the bell. Watched the video a couple of times all the way through nd liked it but i dont see the giveaway page update. Oh well. I’m sure it’s me and it’s two weeks into it so im a little late asking. I just kept thinking it would eventually work. It’s all good. I still love the viDeos. I learn so much from you. Lots of little hints too
Has anyone tried to create two shrinky dinks and then layered them on top of each other to give a 3D effect? I am thinking outside the box and maybe using UV resin to seal them together, but not sure if they will adhere or not. Anyone try this yet?
It’s amazing to see all of the great ideas that you and your team come up with. I wish I had your brains. I keep seeing these great ideas I buy all the stuff but then I’m always so busy making things for friends and relatives that i have a hard time getting to my stuff. I am so anxious to make the Christmas bulbs. I have 4 boxes of glass bulbs. I have the etching and several colors of the wax. Anyway, I need to figure out how to work my projects in too. btw I never charge people. I feel weird abou that but material prices do really add up. Eek. Hope none of the rest of you have my problem 😝
Here is the information in my materials list. 8.5″ x 11″ Printable Shrinky Dink Sheets or or A4 Size Printable Shrink Plastic Sheets, especially if you want to Print then Cut designs with an Inkjet Printer (I used my HP ENVY Photo 7155) -OR- 7.9″ x 5.7″ Frosted Shrinky Dink Plastic Sheet or 8″ x 10″ Shrinky Dinks Clear Shrink Material if you want to cut the designs with the Cricut and color them in by hand with Colored Pencils, or Permanent Markers like a black sharpie jennifermaker.com/diy-shrinky-dinks/
Oh my ... how fun! Can't wait to get some shrink plastic!! This might be fun for our adult kids this year at Christmas! I should look for key ring attachments too!
So much fun! Thank you for the info. As always, I've learned some great tips from you. I use my heat gun to shrink my plastic since I don't have to leave my craft room
Wow Jennifer! I just purchased a set I found at Michaels to do with my five year old having no idea this could be done using the Cricut. So cool! Love this! Thank you!
I love these! However, I don't have a color printer. Is there anyway to print photos at a local printer then cut them on the Cricut? Since they need the border, I'm not sure how this would work.
That's a good question that you could perhaps ask at a print shop. I think you could find a photo you like and size it to the size you want and take the shrinky dink paper to the print shop to see if they will print on that.
@@JenniferMaker But that wouldn't put the square box around it that the Cricut needs, would it? I haven't done enough of the print and cut to have a good feel for it. I will practice, then hopefully I'll see how to do this with a print shop so I can have the option of color. I do love the photo of your pup on the keychain! I'd like to do something like that for sure.
Brilliant. So many hints and tips. I learned so much. I'd never created a custom material on the Cricut. Just your idea/design of the loop on top was worth watching the whole video. Thank you for another great video.
Thank you so much for the tips, especially about lightening images! I'm sure you preemptively saved me from wasting material and potentially giving up on a birthday present my heart is set on making for my daughter! So grateful for all that you share.
OMGosh...I've done as you said, made the. custom material, set it to 3x, etc. I even set the cut to more pressure. Well, my project has passed through the machine 4 times now and still hasn't cut through ....grrrrr
I had the same issue, cut 9x with the Custom settings and it barely scratched the surface. I changed to "Stencil Film - 0.4 mm settings" and cut 3x, and it worked great on my Explore Air 2. The only other change I made was to make the holes half the size for earrings --so 0.5 in for the outer circle and 0.25 in for the inner circle. Otherwise, awesome instructions!
@Jennifer Maker the problem is it smears because the paper comes out print side down! Is there a way to avoid bleeding when the paper does that or should I call it a lost cause
Love the step-by-step step process. Can’t wait to do these I have some sheets that have been sitting in my desk because I was not sure how to size the images. Thanks Jennifer Maker
First off, this was the best step by step teaching video I’ve seen. I’ve had my cricut for a few years & gave up trying to do things with it because I couldn’t grasp the concept of how to use it. With your videos I believe I’ll be able to finally conquer my fears. Also, do you have any videos on how to create nurse or healthcare related shrinky dinks? Thanks
Hi Jennifer! Love your videos! Quick question- can you direct me where you got the white stand your Cricut machine sits on?? It's awesome! Thank you! 😊
We designed and made them on our 3D printer. We plan to share the print files on our blog at some point for anyone else who wants them. There are two styles -- the one on the left uses PVC pipes, so it’s height adjustable to your needs. The one on the right is all 3D printed except for the table, which is a piece of wood screwed to the legs. Both meet the requirements in Cricut’s Safety Instructions for “a flat and stable surface” as the Cricuts are just sitting on stable tables.
What a brilliant tutorial. Thank you Jennifer. Quick question, what does the underside of the shrinks Dink look like? Is it plain white or can you have it printed double sided?
