I made a soap mould using Silicone Rubber, a wooden frame for a template and Lego blocks for a border wall to keep the silicone upright.

Um, have I missed something....that liner is going to be bigger than the box or are you making another box into which it will fit?

Heat gun the legos. We use to melt records and make Lego boxes. Heat gun them. Seals it. Not too long tho. Melt everything. Hit it just right you can have a better seal. Just a suggestion. One lady used foam core board I just watched. Clever.

One way around the having to re-line the mold, use laminated cotton as your liner. You can find the laminated cotton on Etsy or check your local fabric stores for some.

Good job! Always good to see how others do it. :D Tip: Might you wish to make another one: it's easy to calculate the amount of silicone needed. The volume of the outer box minus the volume of the inner box (where the height of the outer box is that of the inner box + 5mm). The outer box measured on the inside; the inner box measured on the outside of course.

You can position the Lego wall around the box without it moving more easily by putting some strips of foam board or cardboard of the right thickness into the gap. Glue down the wall and remove spacers.

Double sided foam tape is great for keeping things like this in place as nice and smooth and will fill in any tiny discrepancies

A couple of things I didnt put in the video is when you make your soap in the silicone liner (inside the lego) make sure its on a solid moveable item, like some wood so you can tape it down on the table or move it if need be.

Thank you! I found this extremely inspiring. I’ve been so frustrated because I want my bars to be uniform in size but sometimes I only want to make 10 and sometimes I want to make 20 but you can’t find good quality mold supplier where the dimensions are consistent between mold volume sizes!

I would have purchased one cheaper. This cost about $85 AUD to make. But its perfect and I know I get 40 bars from it.

If you use wood make sure you use sticky tape inside because silicone sticks to wood very well and hard to peal it off. Hence why all the lego bigs had sticky tape on them. But yes, wood will do just fine.

The lego wall holds the silicone in place while I pour my batter into the mold. I just use a few clips ( video screenshot ) to keep it upright.

That's BRILLIANT! I was racking my brains on how to make one. THANK YOU!🤗 Question! Can I buy a roll of silicon and cut the base so then all I need to do is make the sides.... would the silicon stick to the other silicon to create a joint? AND... Which silicon to use in the UK as I have never worked with it before so am clueless

From the tests I have done, silicone will not stick to other silicone after it has set.

Thanks. Have been looking at making liners trying to figure out what to do and use. Watched a few vids from overseas then my utube feed suggested you and YES and Australian one and with eBay link. I find that putting paper linings in all the time is very time consuming, as I want to get on with making soap. What do you do with the paper after soap making! Waste. Thanks once again

So, instead of the mold being the dimension of the inside of the soap box it is the dimension of the outside of the soap box which makes the soap box obsolete. Nice project but it is worthless to anyone needing a a silicone mold that fits in their existing box.

You could need to make a box inside a box. For this project the inside box was wood and the outside box was the lego mold. So it works fine.

The only other molds I have purchase where the loafs and they were about $30 each including the wood. So to make this slab for $80 was pretty good.

No, when using any type of wood, the silicone will fill all the little holes in the wood and its very hard to seperate them apart.

Question from your friendly cdn lol. You made the liner larger than your box as you molded over the exterior of of your box. Wld it not have been better to make a box based on the interior measurements of the wood box so the box wld keep liner from flopping out? Or are u building a new box for the liner? Sorry I am curious.

Im keeping the lego as the box frame. Its finished and will remain this this way. This was I get 40 bars per slab.
