Thank you SO MUCH! I have been frustrated that I cannot find any natural-material socks that are affordable, neither online nor in stores. Synthetics seem to have taken over the clothing industry as a whole, but I am uncomfortable when I wear them. Especially socks and underwear. But I don't want to spend hours knitting sock after sock, only to find holes in them within a month. So I'm delighted to find that there's a way to sew them from whatever material I choose! This is wonderful... The video explains it so nicely with straightforward instructions that are easy to follow. I'm very grateful.
Ripley RUFF RUNNERS you can get fabric samples, go to charity stores or buy XL sizes of basic clothing at cheap stores. That’s what I do most of the time ^_^. Bulk buying fabrics can save a lot of money too. You just have to find the right seller.
I know this video is old, but I am so glad I discovered this. I am tired of finding gaping holes under the balls of my feet after a few months of wear, even if the socks are expensive. If I make my own I can easily add a few extra layers of fabric in that spot to prolong their longevity.
Brilliant idea! I am going to have to make those double-layer patches as well. The whole reason I'm here is because I go through socks so quickly. I want natural-material ones but I don't want to pay top dollar for like 3 pairs that will be worn out within a month...
Finally a tutorial on knit socks. Every other tutorial on the net are diy crochet socks. I can't crochet. So thank you for this. :) Is it possible to make footed leggings/tights with this method?
Yes :) I have NO idea how to crochet and I agree, all sock tutorials are bloody knitting/crochet! I am not sure, I have yet to try that out! I really wanna try it soon though (winter is coming up here in Australia!)
+HeyWhoStoleMyCookie No, the bralette style, no regular under-wire bra. I think that would be interesting. Annika, can you add regular/underwire bras to your requests list? I would interested in seeing that too and agree bra shopping is hell, or really bra fitting as I, like many women am in between sizes really. I did see another video on You Tube but I really like the way you explain things. Many people skip steps/ assume the viewer knows a certain amount as they think we'll be bored I guess but I really enjoy the whole process. I also really like that you put out the "didn't work" videos occasionally as there are too many videos that pretend to make it all seem so easy.
Thank you for this video, I checked out your earlier one also. Most of my socks are falling apart and I'm fed up with all these holes! I'm about to go get some burlap to make my socks more durable haha. No, but really I am going to hunt for some hardy fabric now. Thank you!!!
This is genius! I have been thinking lately about sewing sox for myself, plus I have a fair amount of just one color two-way stretchy material left over from other sewing projects to practice on b4 I get some little cute material later on. ;-)
Hey Annika! I love your videos!!! I was wondering if you would do a tutorial on knee-hi or thigh-hi socks. I always have the hardest time finding some to fit me that wont roll down or make my legs hurt so I would love to learn how to make them instead. hope to see a video about it, and keep up all the great vids! thank you!!!
Hi! Thank you for posting. I'm just a little confused, when you are sewing he "circular" top part of the sock, how do you sew it in separate layers? Hopefully that makes sense, like if I were to sew both sides together, the top would stay closed.
Quick question: If I were to be making tights, is should be able to use this method to add the feet on, right? I just have to cut out both sides of the pants with the sock overlaying the bottom?
This was very helpful for the costume I'm making! Thank you! (also the music at the beginning is the same music from Keystone Science which is pretty awesome :] )
+Annika Victoria yay!! I wear knee highs 100% of the time as I want them to cover my TEDs (special "over the knee tights") to prevent blood clots etc. I'm in a wheelchair and. Have to wear them all the time. Also, Ii you, or other creators, are looking for usual ideas us ladies in wheelchairs are in need of wheelchair friendly clothing. There are maybe 2 lines online, or used to be, but are both pretty expensive for someone on a budget plus neither appealed to me aesthetically. Anyway, just putting an idea out there, no worries if it's not appealing. 😀🤓😇😉😀
Oh sorry i missed this! it's because it only stretches in two directions (side to side), not up and down, so the stitches won't break in that case because I'm sewing against the stretch direction. BUT if I was going to do this again (now that I am better at sewing), I'd actually use 4-way stretch fabric, and definitely use zig zag stitches all over!
i have over the knee tube socks that i had to buy and fold into my shoe to use a knee high socks as this was my only option. my legs are thick. any tips on fixing the?m since having them folded hurts after a while.
On a scale of 1-10 how comfortable are socks with side stitching/any homemade sock? I'm really interested in creating a pair but I feel as though my soft feet mixed with my rugged business shoes might not mix well?:/ helppppppp.
Annika Victoria welp, there we have it, I just made the coziest pair from my grandpa's original 1964 Beatles world tour t-shirt... he might not be to excited about the whole operation but my phalanges are floating on pure comfort. Thanks for the advice, Annika.
+Annika Victoria Hey, I just went to check out that website but how can you find fabrics that strech on there like the one youre using in the video? All the fabrics seem to just say 100% cotton and nothing about strech or not in them :(
More so than saving money, isn't the greatest benefit to making your own clothes a perfect fit? Tracing your own foot seems like a much better idea than copying a pattern. I'd probably have to scrap sick pairs to get it right though, lol.
