It's time to experiment with some creative photography effects. Becca and Eugen challenge each other to use the vaseline on the lens effect to create a DIY soft focus filter. This photography trick creates glowy, dreamy light so if you've ever asked how do photographers get that soft look, this video is for you!
We share our experience shooting and editing with this technique, show off our final images, and share plenty of tips along the way. We hope you get outside and try this yourself and share the results with us on Instagram - / workerbeesupply
Let us know what you think of this format and what effect we should try next. If you enjoyed this, please subscribe so you don't miss the next video!

Yes!! So cool! but actually if you don’t have the money for filters or don’t have any cheap filters (those that want to protect the lens), someone told me you could use saran wrap or clear wrapping sheets and wrap it around the lens with a thin rubber band and brush the Vaseline on the clear saran wrap! 😁☺️😁☺️ it’s super protective and gives a diffused blur 💡

Putting that greasy goop on the lens is a horrible idea. It's supposed to be smeared on a clear filter. This way it will find its way into the lens. Horrible, horrible idea.

Dont do this! Dont apply the vaseline right on the lens! Apply it on a filter it costs nothing

Hi! Thanks for the comment! We agree about not putting Vaseline directly on the lens, we only did it in this video because it’s a very old lens that we don’t use anymore. We meant to mention using a filter in the video (but forgot) but a couple of people have asked about it in the comments and we’ve been letting them know about using a filter. Thanks a lot for watching!

Jesus christ! Ever heard about UV filters? Don't put vaseline on your lens.

Hi Sandro! Yes, we have! Many people have pointed this out in the comments and it’s something we forgot to include in the video but were aware of. Thankfully we used a very old lens, not something we use on a regular basis. Thanks for looking out!

Did you put it on the lens? o.o a filter should avoid any risk
@WorkerBeeSupply

Hey there! Thanks for the question. We did put the Vaseline directly on the lens, but it's a very old lens that we no longer use for everyday or professional shooting. We actually meant to say in the video that a filter is recommended... we just forgot! Thankfully some people have asked in the comments. Thanks for checking!

@@WorkerBeeSupply thank you for replying (so quickly as well) :) great vid, it really helped me understand something as "banal" as effective and that I couldn't achieve in lr!

Honestly pretty useless video aside from the fact that we all know what Vaseline on the lens does. You didn’t show examples until halfway through the video and you completely skipped over the different techniques you used with regards to the application of the Vaseline in correlation to the images you showed….

Hey Worker Bee! Can you recommend what cleaning cloths I should use on my lenses?
@WorkerBeeSupply
@WorkerBeeSupply 4 года назад
Generally, a microfibre cloth is best, I do wonder how dirty they get after a lot of use, however. We've been using the Zeiss Cleaning Tissues (amzn.to/3iqoLm6) when we want to get the lenses extra clean. They're what we use in this video. If you're trying this effect though, we recommend applying it directly only to old or less important lenses. If it's your main lens, you may want to apply the vaseline to a UV filter.

Haha yeah, our bad! We knew about it but forgot to mention it in the video!! Many people have let us know in the comments though. Thanks for looking out! It’s a super old lens that we don’t use for professional shooting, and we would never do it to our good lenses. 👍🏼

God no! Stop telling people to apply vaseline on their lenes! If you need Content go out and create some! If you want this effect buy a mist filter or do it in editing! Don't break your 500$ lenses while saving 30 bugs on a filter!

Hey! How do you recommend cleaning lenses after applying vaseline on them?
@WorkerBeeSupply
@WorkerBeeSupply 3 года назад
Hey 👋 thanks for watching! We used the Zeiss Cleaning Tissues (amzn.to/3iqoLm6), they’re one time use and won’t damage your lens. You could also sacrifice a micro fibre cloth or two. If you're trying this effect though, we recommend applying it directly only to old or less important lenses. If it's your main lens, you may want to apply the vaseline to a UV filter. Hope that helps!

Hello there Would I have a problem if I try Vaseline on my iPhone phone?
@WorkerBeeSupply
@WorkerBeeSupply 3 года назад
To be honest I don’t think it would work so well. Since the lens area is small it would be hard to apply it without totally covering the whole thing. Could try applying it with a qtip maybe but make sure you avoid the mic hole!

Never ever smear greases of any kind on your lens, much alone petroleum jelly, you will fuck the coating on the lens. use cheap nasty useless UV filters and bollocks that up instead.

Interesting that you revisited an old Hollywood technique using Vasoline (which should not have been used on the lens). However, I think you completely need to go back to that last shot of Becca / back to camera looking up at clouds. You had an AMAZING Soft Color Image and perfect composition. And then you DESTROYED it with a muted attempt at black and white which looks more like Grey and light grey on my computer. How could you?
