Hey Josh! I don't think it's stupid. It's cheap and it does it's job! It even pivots so you can use it at different angles during your day! Awesome job! TFS :)

Yes, used a grocery chain stores concrete sidewalk being jack hammered up into large pieces to be thrown away. I asked would they like to dump that on my property instead of paying to dispose it. They said "Sure". Used it to create a walkway down one embankment on my property. Free for the cost, but not free for light disability it created for a couple of months. I guess "No pain, no gain" held true. Very functional.

Nice job, Josh. Gotta love the pallet stash! Re-using older materials is the way to go. Been using the pieces from the old decks I got on this post barn of mine all the time. The corner braces are even cut at 45% angles already. I think I’d add a piece of 2x4 or similar to the post on your stand to use as the lever arm to swivel it by, though. It’s putting a torque strain on the mounting screws every time you pull/push on the top surface. Don’t want to start shearing screw heads. Nice auger - too many rocks in the ground around my place for one, though. I’d have broken wrists right quick! Even the tractor mounted one that did my 9 holes for me broke the shear pin 3 times. 👍🏻
@SteepintheWoods
@SteepintheWoods 3 года назад
I broke a pin as well! My problem is tree roots... A viewer sent that to us. It's very nice, 4-6 and 12" bits.

Hi, Just wonder why you have to put roofing cover on ? why not install solar panels directly on pallets frame? love the idea of making shipping pallets new life. LoL
@SteepintheWoods
@SteepintheWoods Год назад
I put the roofing down to protect the pallet and post from Rot. It's by no means necessary, but it will extend the life of the structure many fold.
@junkvista61

@@SteepintheWoods I wonder if decking sealant would do the same protection with less work, maybe less cost. BTW how do know what is tilt angle for your solar?

Sir good job...new subscriber. Question, wont the metal roofing degrade your solor panels via heating up? That said great job ...im going to copy your install with a variation. Thank you.
@SteepintheWoods
@SteepintheWoods 3 года назад
You might with a dark roofing. But there designed to tolerate a certain amount of heat the roofing would have to be darker than the panels are themselves. Welcome to the journey!

Great use of spare materials, *MacGyver achievement unlocked! Though I don't think that plastic bag is gonna hold up very long grinding the end up the log into the bag when you turn the panel like that.
@Archangel0804
@Archangel0804 3 года назад
Very ingenious. However I know quite a bit about solar. Solar panels work best and most efficient when they are cool. The metal roofing behind the panels are robbing you of power when they heat up with this setup, and with your design, they are laying directly on top of the metal, it will also rob your panels of their lifespan.. What you have created is NOT like roof mounted systems. In a roof mounted system, there is air between the panel and the roof. You should find something that you can put in between the panel and the metal roofing material.

That's how it works. I'm putting skirting around the cabin using what was the old plywood off the mezzanine floor where I worked. They were going to throw it all away at the dump. I said throw it in my barn lol.

I see you only have 200 watts worth of panels how many batteries are you charging and what all do you use your power for? I am just setting up my system I am starting with 100 watts of panels and a 12V 100Ah SLA AGM Battery for Solar Panels.Just trying to figure out what I need to actually produce enough usable power.
