your vids are all saved while i sit on my hands and save up for my first box truck. your subfloor, spray foam insulation, diesel heater and many other videos will come in clutch
Charles have you ever sprayed cellulose ( ground up news print )with a spray glue gun attachment ? Back in the day we used it in metal buildings and it worked great.
Oh, Chuck. I am disappointed. First you tell us how spraying makes it really hot in there, then you completely missed the opportunity to play Nelly's Hot in Here song...
Good practice is to tape the cuffs of your Tyvek suit to the top of your booties (get over the ankle booties too) and tape your wrist cuffs to your gloves. There is a rotary tool for trimming spray foam called a CI Trimmer/ planner 20.5" wide that professionals use to trim the foam flush to the studs in a home. It is fast and does a great job. Personally I would overfill the bays by a quarter of an inch so they could be trimmed flush and get the maximum insulation value, it annoys me to see pro contractors not filling bays completely, shorting the customer, and reducing the energy efficiency of the home.
thoughts on painting (KILZ) the furring strips and the "foam facing" side of the plywood to minimize mold growth if/when a leak occurs into the foam ...
Not sure why you'd want to do that. You could probably staple gun streamer paper on just as well, but it could come up on the edges. Petroleum jelly could seep through into your paneling and leave grease stains.
Again, great info. After the job was done you could see the wires running where the wall meets the ceiling on one side of the bus so I’m thinking that you didn’t cover up the wires and this is where you could run wires after the bus is insulated? I was think that maybe you could run a pvc tube at the top of the wall to facilitate running wires but I have never done anything like this? Did you ever consider a hot wire foam cutter to quickly level the foam?
Great Job. The addition of Brianna to the videos is great. She obviously knows what she's doing too. The BEST collabs and this goes for about anything other than just bus builders, but to have 2 good builders doing the same tasks and seeing the differences between the 2 builders and the different methods used. Proof there's more than 1 way to skin a cat, and what works for one, something else might work better for another. All that matters is the end result if it's done properly, safely and efficiently. LIke, I've seen in previous videos where she's used different products than you used like the Formular 150 where you use 250. I am not doing a roof raise and thankfully I do have a 77in ceiling instead of 74. So I'm only using 1 inch 150 and had already bought it. Then I see it used on the floor video you helped with. Although, I think if I was going 4 inch, I would do the 250 for the added compressive strength. Big difference in the 1in and 4in. Anyway, you get the drift. Great Collabs.
I bet it would be a lot more expensive and take a ton more time. For small patches and repairs, probably not a problem. My neighbor used a few cases of the cans to make an RC crawler course, in my videos.
Great video! Big question: along the bottom of walls is that thin space between exterior panel and interior panel. Can i spray down into that space without bowing the walls? A little bit at a time to gradually build it up?
Good vid 👍 I used Tiger on my garage ceiling many years ago, surprised prises are still as high as back then. So just one kit did your whole bus? Looking to do my 17ft cargo trailer, how long is the bus? Cheers
I'm considering doing this to my tall Sprinter work van. My issue is that I could only do it outside. And my van is charcoal gray, so any sun on the van it gets pretty hot. If it gets up to 170+ degrees in a covered building, it seems if the van skin was hot would it not get even hotter? You guys probably always have the benefit of doing these jobs indoors.
Your vids are awesome and educational. Is there any other insulation you would recommend if a DIY couldn't do spray foam? Also you mentioned minimal contact with wood on the mental frame. Would adhesive thermal foil of some kind just on the places where the wood makes contact with the metal. Eliminate or reduce the condensation pooling between the wood and menta as an example. If you weren't using spray foam. Ohh after you have completed your spray foam. What material do you recommend to cover your walls and roof, thank you.
Great video chuck. I was wondering what would happen if you sprayed the insulation and used plywood to smush it down as it expanded. maybe that would help? I dunno, im no expert
❤@This. Question: since u been looking over other works di to ur platform as an professional will do so what do think 🤔 of James E Denison bus build if u don't mind asking?
Chuck, do you know of any spray foam outfits out west that have a shop to do the work in? I’m doing my build outside in central NM, and it’s going to be really tough nailing down a day with the perfect temp.
