That happened to me when I had to change the drive on my PSP 2004 model. Laser was broken. I got the new drive, then checked a few videos on how to do it and decided to swap the shell in one go too, had to take it apart entirely anyways. So I also got a new shell. It was scary, there are even more parts and screws than on the Switch Lite (I've done two Switch Lite case replacements) and I was extremely inexperienced, but I got through. Had quite a lot of fun with that thing and it was pretty unique, clear bright blue.

Can you please list the external materials required to do this, like the thermal paste etcetera, I got part way through your video took my Switch apart and then learned I didn't even have everything I needed! Just replace the sticks. They're easy to replace and it's more of a permanent solution than to fiddle with them by trying to open them up.
@aaron4163
@aaron4163 3 года назад
This video covers it.. why are you promoting the same content being made more than once. All it takes is some really well placed time stamps to get the same video about how to fix or change the joycons.
@nomoretwitterhandles
@nomoretwitterhandles 2 года назад
I've already seen a video on this very subject! Though it mostly depends on its diagnosis. Go to the calibration settings via Settings>Controllers and Sensors>(scroll down) Calibrate Control Sticks>Tilt the stick you want to calibrate. Once you have selected the joystick you want to calibrate, watch how it moves away from the center of the '+'. Apply pressure to the shell directly by the joystick (just the part by the hole it comes out of). If the dot goes back to the center of the '+', you have an issue with pressure on the inside of the joycon. To fix the pressure problem, simply put a small piece of paper/cardboard (about 1mm thick) on top of the joystick, between the silvery back (of the stick) and the battery plate. That should fix it! HOWEVER, if that does not fix the problem, the issue is definitely just your joystick and you need to replace it. I know it's a year late, but I hope this response helps you understand how joycon drift happens and how you can permanently fix it!

I just did a shell replacement following this. Some advices: 1: you don't have to disconnect the battery. The little cables that goes to the connector are VERY fragile. They break very easily and if you do like in this vid (unpluging it by pushing out the cables) you will break it for sure. Just make sure that you power off the switch COMPLETELY. Do not dissassemble if you have your system in wait mode or you may fry the motherboard. 2: the same goes to the speakers. You don't have to unplug them. They are EXTREMELY fragile and breaking the cables is very easy. Just handle the board with extra care, but do not unplug them. 3: the new shell should not use the original screws. Use the ones that come with the new shell, as you may crack the shell otherwise like erica said. 4: do not place the hair dryer for a WHOLE minute while it's on hot. Just a couple seconds its okay. You may damage the digitizer and the LCD if it is very hot. Remember that you only need to heat the adhesive, not the LCD. 5: it is not necessary to replace the thermal paste if its in a good condition, but it's always a good idea. The switch lite does not overheat that much either.

Definitely unplug the battery; it's cheap and easy to replace the battery with a new one that will have a new connector should you break the wires off the connector (which you likely won't anyways). On the other hand, if you short a chip somewhere on the motherboard because you didn't unplug the battery, you might as well buy a new switch.

Haha, so you can follow along. I modded my GBA and I had to carefully trim parts of the shell to fit the new back-lit screen , with the clear green shell, every little cut or scratch shows through. I'm glad this doesn't require any cutting of the brand new shell. I definitely want to do my switch now in a clear jungle green, or clear slime green, or clear orange like the N64

It'd be nice to have an atomic purple shell with the same kind of texture the old atomic GBC had. And some black/dark grey buttons and joysticks.

You repeatedly say "finally" or "lastly" right before listing off a million other things. Just say "next".

That's awesome! Great job!!! I love doing stuff like this to tech. The purple switch definitely gives me the clearest purple gameboy.

I got the pokemon switch lite cuz i like the buttons, it's the only different ones they have. But the shell is the most boring. So perhaps I should change it up. Honestly what I'd rather do is get all the switch lites and mix and match their shells. But that atomic purple... oh my beloved game boy color how I miss you so.

I did the same thing for a normal Nintendo Switch and it is significantly easier. You don’t need to d/c ribbon cables, battery, audio ect. or go into the main motherboard. You just remove a backplate and replace front and back shells of the joycons after you unscrew and undo 4 layers in the joycons themselves...not to mention only 2 types of internal screws. For the Switch Lite you have to basically take everything apart whereas for the normal Switch it potentially takes 15-20 mins if it’s your first go and afterwards when you realise how easy it is, it takes 2mins.

Can't you just unscrew the top and bottom shell, do nothing else, and just screw on the new ones?
@EricaGriffin
@EricaGriffin 4 года назад
That would be cool, huh!? But sadly, no. There are layers and layers of screws that are only accessible by taking the whole thing apart. Then when taken apart you still need to take out the screen, which is stuck with adhesive. Not that simple.

I..I did it.. Tips I could give: Put your screws in line order of where she starts and use the tutorial to guide you on which screws go where. Don't rush it, I broke an LCD by being too excited. It's not as hard as you might think, just need a couple hours of free time and a quiet space and anyone can do this. Good luck! 🙏

Welp I followed this guide, super helpful but I somehow damaged my LCD and it doesn't show an image now. Be VERY careful with the LCD ribbon when you do this! It is stupidly fragile!

My suggestion: give it super Famicom coloured buttons and it will look sick. It's just my idea but you might want to consider it. I just love the super Famicom and SNES!

I recently replaced my lite's shell to a transparent green one. But I've noticed that my internal fan isn't spinning when my unit is turned on. Is the internal fan always supposed to be active, or does it turn itself on during long periods?

be careful recommending a "heat gun on low". Most cheap 2 temp heat guns I've used could easily melt the plastic and fry the screen on low. I suspect the part of your audience who would rely on your guide would be likely to not monitor the heat properly and damage something.
@EricaGriffin
@EricaGriffin 4 года назад
If they don’t have enough sense to realize the tool they are using could melt the plastic then I don’t know what to say. Most people will just use a hair dryer because that is all they will have access to. You have to be a pretty intense idiot to go out and buy a heat gun just for this project as a novice and melt your screen. Those who actually own and use a heat gun (out of necessity) know better... you certainly do. But yeah, there is a real dummy born every second. I’ve seen people drill holes in the bottom of their iPhones thinking they will find the hidden headphone jack. If that’s the case, I can only hope you melt your screen lol.
@Allanrpsx
@Allanrpsx 4 года назад
@@EricaGriffin dang ok. I wouldn't want to use a heat gun on low because I would be worried about damaging the plastic. Depending on the type of plastic, there often is little indication before damage is done. I would be particularly worried with discoloration of the clear plastic screen cover. I am a male and I didn't own a hair dryer untill I got one hand me down for projects. If I watched this video and decided to do this, I would have went to harbor freight and bought a 2 stage heat gun for $7 and I likely would have damaged the finish of my screen cover or case. But maybe I am one of those dummies you speak of 🤷‍♂️. I say this respectfully, because I think you made a great video. I suspect you might not have used many cheap 2 stage heat guns. To put it in perspective, I use my harbor freight piece on low to weld plastic and to solder
