In this four part mini series I show how to make a tabletop pinball machine with a digital scoring system and solenoid powered flippers.
This video covers the design process and making of the pinball machine playing field. I add some rubbers, a rebound, some targets to aim for and the typical slingshots near the flippers.
There will be build plans available for this build that show you step by step how to build a pinball machine like this, they are not ready when the video airs but they wil be soon.
Check out the link below for the build plans and for more info about the build:

I had a thought on mounting the covers temporarily.... Use magnets attached to the covers and the screw head on the rubber posts. Cheap and can be reused for the next table :-)

That's a good idea indeed. Better than the hot glue fix

I'm not sure you're going to want to use hot glue for the switches. I doubt it will hold up long-term with the ball hitting them. I would fasten them in somehow.

I agree that it is not the best way. For my machine it seems to hold up for now. But in the plans I'm working on at the moment I have changed it to something more sturdy.

Very cool! I am also working on an electronic pinball machine. It is based on the Pinbox 3000. I tried the same kind of switches that you are using and found them too stiff & unreliable for general play. Have you tested that these switches will actuate with the force provided to the ball via the flippers? I ended up having to use IR break beam sensors instead.
@Thepracticalengineer

Thanks! Yes I ran into the same thing with the switches. The initial plan was to do everything with the same switches as I did the targets but that was way to stiff. Thata why I used the small switches glued on the field for the other targets.
@Thepracticalengineer

But I think you.made a very good choice going for the IR break beam sensors.

What about hall effect sensors? Basically, they detect a change in magnetic field, whereby a pin changes to indicate the presence of the ball. I know stainless steel might be weakly magnetic, but is it worth a try?

Hi nice work congrats!!! where did you buy the switches for score (points) on ebay? thanks in advanced
@Thepracticalengineer
@Thepracticalengineer 5 лет назад
Hey, Thanks! I had some of them laying around already but I usually buy stuff like this either on aliexpress (china), eBay, or Farnell. That last one if I either need good quality or need it quick
