DIY Tap shoes in minutes! 

After watching your video, I played around with the duct tape method, but ended up substituting a stack of two fender washers (large, thin, steel washers with small holes) for the coins. If I use one with a smaller hole on the outside, and one with a larger hole, against the sole, and add an adhesive, rubber cabinet door bumper in the big hole, stuck to the one with the small hole, the stack is not compressed flat by the tape. Then I can tap dance on a rug and still get a nice snap. And a couple layers of tape, to protect the hardwood floors, does not silence them. I like cloth, gaffers tape better than duct tape. I think it lasts longer, too. Thanks for helping me think about this.

"Till you get yourself a proper pair of tap shoe." I will say that the motivation for DIY shoes is for those of us that can't get tap shoes at all. I wanted to try tap dance but I'm a 16 wide US Men's shoe. I can only find tap shoes up to size 14 on Amazon and other sites. So it is just not an option for us large footed individuals to even be able to try activities that require specialized footwear. I do wish the plates were available wider too but I'll take what I can get. 😅😅

this is awesome I actually like the sound of the coins the best. I can't find tap shoes in my area and they're not really something I'd be comfortable buying without trying on so this really helped. I just finished using some industrial strength glue to add some pennies to the old shoes I've been using to learn with. :P

Is it wrong that I'm here so that I have shoes that tap? Instead of the purpose for finding tap dancing shoes?

Love this thank you - I made coin taps with my converse & loved them so much while I waited for a pair of Capezios to come in. Now I want to glue teletones onto my converse cuz they’re a cuter shoe but I don’t know how to pick the size of teletones. Like how much smaller should they be than the front or heel or your shoe? & how close to the front row should they be? Are you supposed to be able to tap with the front of your toe straight down like 90 degree angled from the ground?

Hi. I really appreciate your video and I'm going to try some of these options before purchasing tap shoes since I might not stick with the dancing style. One question (though I know I'm years too late), is there a reason I can't just glue coins to my shoes so that they stay on longer? Actually, I'm going to answer that question for myself I guess, since I have lots of shoes (OK - I'm a shoe-aholic, I admit it) and I have gorilla glue. Thanks.

When the toes of the shoes curl up, you have to put your taps further back. Those taps aren't touching the wood.

Great idea about the coins - have you tried using flattened soup cans?

The steps you were doing look more like clogging steps than tap steps.

Has anyone tried shoo gooing the pennies on? I use washers and duct tape . I might try gluing them on old shoes

I tried hot gluing coins to the bottom of my shoes but after only 10 minutes of dancing they started falling off
