I love finding vintage antique gold frames and brass candle holders at thrift stores and flea markets, but I know they can be hard to find. For today's video, I wanted to test different techniques and materials to see if I can transform other thrifted items to have an antique gold or brass look! I hope you guys enjoy this Thrift Flip video!

I love this kind of video because it’s easier to recreate! It happens to me allll the time where I get an idea from RU-vid but it doesn’t turn out the same because when thrifting maybe my base material is wood vs metal or something like that. Or maybe I couldn’t find an exact color of paint. So you using multiple types of bases and products really helps! Thank you for taking the time to do these videos, you always inspire me ❤️

When I do costuming, I start w/ a black base and dry brush the paint on in varying concentrations of gold. Mixing black and gold paints in several colors ranging from dark to light and dry brush each layer on, ending w/ the pure gold color as a highlight

I had a very white French shabby chic antique shop, just a few years ago. Where I painted all the gold frames, mirrors, even brass candle holders ...everything WHITE. Can’t believe gold stuff is so popular again so soon. It use to be every 40 years things would trend cycle back around again but wow the white paint hasn’t even had time to cure before it’s time to strip it off. Makes me realize I need to pick my favorite style that makes me love my space and just go with it, instead of chasing every new trendy style that comes along. I can’t help but think it’s really all about the money. Retailers tell us what we need to make us happy and satisfied in our homes and in the process making us go broke and them (the rich) get richer.

If you want the Rub n Buff to look shiny, you rub it on or brush it on, wait a minute or two, then buff it to make it shine. It is a wax with color in it. You are very creative and fun to watch!

I love your diys. as a former science teacher and as an artist, I enjoy the experimenting. so fun. i set up housekeeping in the mid eighties...I can't do brass again. I also can't do country with blue-bowed-ducks. those were my loves when I began decorating.

In regards to the shiny smaller candle holder, use either a matte white primer and then spray OR sand it down a bit so it can hold the color and add more texture... or do both sanding and primer. And i've learned this by spray painting shiny brass bathroom fixtures that aged the house. I primed them and spray painted them a metallic black and absolutely love them now!

Great results!! I prefer to use metallic gold acrylic craft paints for my base coats on frames. It's much more economical than rub n buff or spray. It's also less smelly. I can mix the shades of gold with other metallic craft paints to achieve different shades of gold so I'm not limited to the colors that the spray paint and waxes come in. I love ornate frames and mirrors and you found some great ones! Jo

Love the glaze effect! I suggest the Rustoleum Bright Coat Metallic Finish Gold Spray Paint...I find it’s a really good “brass” look!

Cool experiment! I have both the Gold Leaf and Antique Gold Rub 'n Buff as well and I find that I use the Gold Leaf most of the time. It surprised me because I thought the Antique Gold would be my favorite!

Hi MaCenna, everything you did turned out great. I myself prefer glass over gold, have you done any glass colouring. I would love to see you do some glass DIYs on some candlesticks and/or vases. I am glad you included Kingsley at the end, you cannot have a show without the star.

This type of look isn't my thing at all but you're so interesting to listen to and watch that I watched it anyway. I'd love to see more styling videos on boho or farmhouse or other types of styles for home decor. Especially since it's almost spring time.

This was super helpful! I just covered the entire frame of my antique mirror in rub and buff and it looks very flat and yellow now so I’m excited to get some glaze that will give it more depth!

Hi, I have painted many metal finishes and used steel wool to rough up the finish and then spray paint with metal primer. You can then paint any finish. Have fun!

Love this! I'm a new fan!! Did you find the need for primer and sealer? I usually use sanded down wood frames for my mosaics, because most of the time they are stained wood. I'm wondering what would be easiest, way, that would also keep over time. TIA!
