I have a neighbor with a 1973 Continental. The shifter on the column is flopping around and she can't get into park from reverse. Do I need to take the column out and send it to you or is beyond fixing?
Would it make any difference to spay oil on the new dowell pin as a barrier on the aluminium when knocking in with the center-punch in case of oxide build-up from moisture over 50+ years . Not sure if you charge by the hour , gray hairs or swear words .
Great information. Help please!!! I have a 1979 F100 automatic transmission with tilt steering and trying to replace the bulb for the automatic gear indicator. The bulb is connected to the turn signal switch assembly. How do I get access to replace the bulb?
The 1970-1978 pin should, but we do not have a Marquis to test it on, so we cannot say with 100% certainty. That being said, Ford used that pin on almost all Fords with a tilt in that vintage. 1970-78 locking lever pin: secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/catch-locking-pawl-tilt-steering-column-repro-1970-1973-mercury-cougar-/-1970-1973.html
We only sell parts for the 67-73 Cougar but try to list when the part also fits other makes/models. I do not believe that part is a cross with any of the parts we sell.
I don't have any specs on columns after 1973. I do know there was minor changes in 1974 and later. I suggest you go to the Lincoln forums and I am sure someone help you. Good luck
The tilt mechanism is the same for most all Fords for each generation. The length of the tubes and shafts are what is different for the different car models. So the pins should be interchange year for year.
My tilt column in my 78 f250 makes a popping sound when turning left, what could be causing that? Will that pin work for my 78 f250? It slips out of position often.
This is an old message but do you have the name of the company in Nashville. I sent my tilt to DW at WCCC twice and $1000 later and a lot of aggravation my 1970 column is actually worse. Don't want to relocate my ignition with aftermarket column but also don't want to throw more money at a lost cause.
