You are freaking brilliant!!! Your thought processes amaze me! Love this DIY! I bought some DMG 6 months ago because I didn't think there was an alternative. I have been trying NOT to use it because I worried about the expense of replacing it! Now I don't have to worry! Amazing. Thank you so much for sharing!! Keep sharing! From a person who is disabled from MS, these money saving tips are a blessing!!!

The great thing about Petroleum Jelly is that it has no PH because it's just hydrocarbons. This means it shouldn't yellow your paper either. When you add the alcohol to it, you're just removing some of the water. It's considered a soft parafin wax and it comes from refined petrol. The only thing is that in some cases it could darken the paper. I tell people stuff like this a lot- Many of the products that have been co-opted into scrapbooking are either already art mediums or stuff you can get at the hardware store. I saw an amazon review for texture paste where a kid used it to spackle a project that was supposed to look like a wall. Wall spackle itself only costs about 3.00 for a small tub of it. It just goes to show you that it's easier to sell people on products if they are used to specific brands.

Wow!! This is awesome!! Kristina Warner uses the distress micro glaze on he envelopes she make by hand...I had never heard of the stuff before...in the comments section on one of her videos some one said chap stick worked the same as the glaze. But you mad science recipe looks to me to be the best!! Btw...what you made looks exactly like the distress micro glaze...exactly like it!!!!! I did recently purchase the glaze instead of the chap stick...but I'll be using your recipe when my container runs out!! And I saw Tim Holtz do the stencil to....this is soooooooo awesome....are you a scientist for real??? Lol!!! Thank you so much the DIY distress micro glaze!! So cool Stacey!! 🦋🦋🦋

I recently die cut some butterflies, watercolored them with distress ink and now wanna with gloss medium without smearing my ink; although I don’t need to make my own micro glaze (at this point in time anyway) your video is the only one that answered my exact question...”will a sealing medium adhere over micro glaze?” So thank you 💞

What an awesome idea! I'm all about people making a product and putting it out there to sell, but we all know how expensive the majority of crafting supplies are. There is a difference between making a profit and ripping people off, which is what I've felt about this very small pot of Micro Glaze from T.H. I appreciate how your mind works and very grateful for sharing your new process here. TFP!

I just watched the TH video and he did rub/buff the glaze after applying it. But as I was watching “Vaseline” popped into my head.....but then I thought how would you keep it from getting all goopy.....then I saw your video! Tyvm for the tip on alcohol! New subbie too 😃❤️🦋💜
@CarolReidCA
@CarolReidCA 6 лет назад
Thanks! I'd think it would have resisted acrylics, but with the alcohol, perhaps not??? Might be a different type of alcohol, or perhaps they use an emulsifier if the alcohol doesn't change the petroleum jelly, but well worth playing with it! Awesome sauce!!!

Hi Stacy. This is awesome. I saw another video where someone used plain petroleum jelly but adding alcohol is even better. In the other video it was used to seal inkjet printables both front & back to avoid water from messing up the ink. I wonder if cardstock could be sealed to be used for a stencil after shapes are cut out. Resist is a great idea. I'm definitely going to follow ur instructions. TFS. Tere
@BelindaShort
@BelindaShort 7 лет назад
This would definitely work with cardstock, you would just need to be slightly careful because petroleum jelly is a little bit of an emmolient and it may penetrate whatever you cut, which can make it slightly softer and easier to tear. . Emmolients get between fibers like oil. I'd use it on something like cold press watercolor paper where it's more likely to sit on top rather than to get into it. Cardstock tends to be thinner rather than dense.

I bought Dorland's Wax Medium, 4 ounces for just over $10.00, from Amazon. It is the same product and I love it. The only issue I have had with it is that I made a die cut with Xyron adhesive on the back and really had to burnish it from behind. Since the person I sent the card to never acknowledges getting my cards I will never know if it held up. I like your DIY version, but I am nearly 65 and likely won't use up the Dorland's before I die!
