I just tried this and my hair looks amazing I love this thick voluminous layered cut!! whoever said you can't do a professional job should practice more because it looks better now than it ever has at a hair salon. More times than not I left the salon unhappy with the results but now I finally am happy with my hair cut thank you Elle :)

I did this today. Was desperate in quarantine and pulled the trigger -- even though I was SO SCARED. I actually watched all three of your tutorials and it TOTALLY worked! AMAZING! Thank you for sharing this. I also watched your men's haircut and cut my husband's hair last night. I think that looks pretty good too! I think we will still go back to the pros when this is over, but this was so great until we all open again.

First I have to say that I absolutely love you! Today I’m trying to cut layers into my daughters’s thick hair, I’m having a little bit of difficult time figuring how I’m going to create layers since you basically can only really show how to trim your own existing cut.

Tried this on my thick long hair and it looks great! Also I always cut my bangs straight across and watched your bangs video and used your trick to use clippers and now my hair looks great! Changed the way I will trim my bangs forever! Thank you you are lovely!!!

I always love watching your videos! I am a hairstylist but work from home so I always cut my own hair and I use your technique on my own cut. I've never been happier with my haircuts. I am not daring enough to colour my hair like yours but I certainly want to. I adore your colour!

I got a lot of damage about a year ago but luckily I have thick hair so it's not so bad. Your videos have helped me so much! I am going through a period where paying lots of money to go to a hairdresser isn't an option..I have to say thanks to your videos my hair is now healthy, long and blonde. I enjoy your videos so much, keep them coming!

Hi! I'm a new subscriber and I already love your videos! I have yet to try this out on myself and am debating whether or not I should in case I screw it up lol. I just want to say thank you for the detailed description of how to achieve this cut. I have had this cut before and when I did, I felt SO beautiful. My hair is wavy/curly and it would always look great straight out of the shower. When I went back to the same stylist who gave me this cut a few years later, she did not give me the same result. I got exactly what you said - the blunt straight lines between the layers. It's literally been 2 years and since then I'm still trying to get your cut. Every single hairdresser I've gone to has followed that existing style that I hate. I finally gave up and chopped off the layers into a long bob. I don't get why it's so hard for hairdressers to do what I ask. I think if I use your key words like NOT blunt, soft lines, tapered I hope I can get it back. Or I could just show your video!!

I've always wanted to cut my own hair - successfully! and after following your tutorials, I am amazed at how good I have done it, even if I do say so myself. I desperately needed my haircut before the Covid lockdown, so I used this opportunity (nobody, would be able to see if it was a total disaster, right?) but I did such a surprisingly good job, that I was disappointed that there would be no one to notice! Such as life. I've just done my latest cut - successfully - and still watching your vids at the same time, I hasten to add! Your styles in your vids such as this, are what I like, and that suits me (well, thats what I think anyway 😄!) So thank you so much for your instruction, it's amazing!

So I came across this video and this is EXACTLY how I've been trying to get my hairstylist to do my hair, but it never turns out this way and she acts like she has NO idea what I'm talking about, despite pictures and descriptions! So I went home and tried this today. I don't know if it's the texture of my hair or what, but it didn't quite turn out this amazing. lol It looks fine, like I'm not embarrassed to go out in public or anything, but it's definitely not looking like that fabulous mane! I used professional scissors (though they are from Sally's) and tried to go along exactly with the video, but I'm not sure what I did wrong. I know one thing is that I had let my previous layers grow out, so I was having to put them in, so I'm guessing maybe that had something to do with it? I wish I could see this cut with someone who didn't have the layers already to begin with. Anyway, sorry for the novel, love your videos! Keep 'em coming!

Fantastic tutorial. Really well explained. Lol, you'd have a field day with my hair.....its all down to my tail bone now. A few wee bits at the front might be an inch or so shorter but mostly my hair is all tail bone length or longer, teehee. It's certainly a big job to wash it, that's for sure, lol. But I have to say I've really enjoyed having it this long....plus my 3 year old niece thinks I'm Rapunzel, lol. Lee xx

Just did this for 2nd time. I love being able to do the layers freehand, but I still have to rely on the crea cut for the overall length bc it still ends up looking way too blunt. Thanks so much, my hair was pretty long but I hadn't trimmed it in awhile, so I got rid of maybe too much length and I now have a lot of bulk in the back,( but I also have pretty thick in the back, virgin hair anyway) it's not wispy like yours is, which I like the shape of yours, it's very flattering. I guess I have to go back in and cut some more strategic layers to get rid of the bulk, either that or I didn't quite have the hand and cutting angles right...but I like it. I noticed you have layers in the back which helps get rid of the bulk too, I guess I need to go back further behind my ear?... thanks again for the video. It would be great to see the angles up close, for me :)

I love this cut! I have hair that's all one length, a little bit shorter than your longest layer in this video. I've been trying to figure out what to do with it since it's so boring. I love the long layers of this and especially the long bangs, because [I think] it would still be able to go into a ponytail and not have to be high maintenance at all times if I didn't want it to be. I definitely won't be doing it on myself the first time, but maybe I can use this as a reference for upkeep!

ellebangs I used both in conjunction, I think the first was a better general overview, short, sweet and to the point, but the second one was defiantly more informative for longer hair and layers. Both were nice and easy to follow, I like the explanations on why to cut at an angle rather than straight on, pulling forward, etc. I suppose that's not terribly helpful eh?

Hi Elle! Couple things, first want to say you're awesome and THANK YOU for you're super easy instructional's on cutting hair. I tried this cut last year and I've been keeping up my long hair cuts ever since! I get a ton of compliments and most people say, "who does your hair I love it?". I'm always quick to tell them about Ellebangs and love to brag that I totally did it myself! So what I'm hoping to figure out from you is what type of scissors you suggest for 'point cutting', I've been using store bought "hair cutting" scissors but I'm pretty sure they're not the best.

Hey Silvia! Thanks for this vid, I tried the cut and it looks great! I'd love to hear what cutting tools you use, maybe if you have a range of high-end to affordable favorite scissors?

I should do a video about this at some point. You usually get what you pay for and good high end shears are upwards of 800$ each which is quite pricy, but of course there's cheaper good once also

I've been cutting straight across and point cutting. I have been doing it wrong. Started doing it myself cause had a bad experience at a pro cuts. I came with one side longer than the other literally, from a salon. Really!!

great! I absolutely love your hair and your face is sooo cute. My question is this...do you think this kind of bangs cutting would work for thin silky hair? cause mine always looks weird

I love this video! Can you make a video talking about the type of scissors you use and possibly your professional opinion on how to tansistion from having hair with medium layers to longer and fewer layers like yours in this video ?????
@Ellebangs
@Ellebangs 10 лет назад
first you need the length in order to have the distance to be able to have that long disconnect. then ust follow this tutorial...

Parabéns pelos teus vídeos!!! Sigo todos eles. Gosto tanto deste corte! Obrigado

Hi Silvia- Can I attempt this at home if I have blunt layers? I also have way too many. Can I use this technique to fix them?

thank you sooo much im gonna try this out ... my hair is super thick and i have an oval face shape but why problem is i have a small forehead and an arabic nose " big" so i never felt good about my hair styles because it's focuses so much on these two flaws and the layers always seemed to get lost in my thick hair so as if i just cut it one piece ... i wish you can do my hair !!!

Great tutorial! Thank you. Do you have a tip for hair that just doesn't hold a curl? It falls out after a couple of hours max.
