I will guide you through each step, from molding the clay to adding vibrant colors with acrylic gouache, and finishing with a protective coat of acrylic varnish.
Materials Needed:
DAS Air Dry Clay
Acrylic Gouache
Acrylic Varnish
Pin Backs
Sculpting Tools (or household items like toothpicks and butter knives)
Paint Brushes
Water (for smoothing the clay)
Palette or Plate (for mixing paints)
Protective Surface Covering (newspaper or a craft mat)
Step-by-Step Guide:
Prepare Your Workspace: Lay down a protective covering and gather all your materials.
Shape the UFO: Start with a ball of DAS clay, then shape it into a classic UFO design. Use sculpting tools to smooth out the edges.
Let It Dry: Allow your clay UFOs to dry completely. This might take 24-48 hours depending on the thickness.
Attach Pin Backs: Secure pin backs to the underside of your UFOs using a strong adhesive.
Paint Your UFOs: Once dry, use acrylic gouache to bring your UFOs to life with vibrant colors. Be creative!
Seal with Varnish: After the paint dries, apply a coat of acrylic varnish to protect your pins and give them a nice finish.
