@@Spokenfan Family cloths are easy, either use PVC and glue a piece of flannel around it, or a toilet paper roll and then use just 2 ply or single ply flannel and pieces about 4 x 9 or 4x12 are good, then just roll them on the roll
Great demo! I do these but without the snaps I just stack them in a wide bowl that sits on the counter. Even smaller ones for napkins, made with flannel and even cloth diapers, whatever I find cheap.lol I also have a bag I made hanging (kitchen cabinet knob) in the kitchen to catch the dirty ones during the day, then it's a one trip to the laundry when full.
I agree. I see no reason for trying to make a roll of towels & I think the snaps will be an annoyance. All you need are a bunch of cloths...just any old cloths. Can be attractive if that's what's more pleasing to you. DixieGirl made some excellent points & has great, practical ideas.
Great idea!! Keep these great ideas coming! ( in a smaller version that's how my daughter made her baby wipes, without snaps ) never would have thought to make paper towels! I love this idea!!
I love this! please keep these craft videos coming! they will be hugely helpful for people like me who are just now learning sewing!! my hubby also seemed impressed with these towels!!
Thank you. I'm glad that it is helpful. I am just trying to show all of the different things that we do here to be more self sustaining and sufficient. Homesteading has MANY different aspects. Lots of ways to save money too!
+MyHomesteadingProject That is for sure! We are doing our best to learn as much as we can to be self sufficient! The more knowledge you gain, the better off you are!
What a neat idea. I've used cloth napkins for about as long as I can remember, thrift store, clearance racks & homemade. I keep my napkin holder full, so those are our quick grab "paper towels" not to mention a couple drawers full of tea towels & dish towels. The only paper products we use are Kleenex & TP, just can't make that change. So as with everything else buy in bulk. Oh I want to give a shout out to Michigan Snowpony for sending me your way
ohmygosh -- this is SO clever!! Tina, you put out some of the best, helpful videos! I hope I can get my youngest -- the seamstress in the family -- to make some of these. BRILLIANT IDEA!
I am so glad that I found your channel. I thank you for this video. I am almost out if paper towels so it is off the the fabric store to get the flannel, terry cloth, & snaps. I look forward to making these. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. How many square clothes do you put on a roll? Thank you.
Welcome! I'm happy that this was helpful for you. Keep your cardboard tube to roll your cloth ones on to. I generally put 12-15 of them on a roll. that tends to fit on a standard paper towel holder nicely. I have back-up rolls ready to go in case we go through them before I get a chance to wash them. :)
+MyHomesteadingProject I made them!! They came out great! Thanks again for the tutorial! Only problem now is ... They're too pretty to wipe up spills with LOL!
That's awesome! I'm so glad! I had the same problem after I made them too. Living in a house of boys I knew that they were going to get some heavy use. That's when I made a second roll. So when they get nasty looking (or when company comes over) I can put out a fresh pretty one. :)
I do not know much about using sewing machines but I am trying to learn. I was just wondering how you are able to sew over the pens. I thought that could break the needles.
I have tried to make some small wipes for my baby but only using terry towel so they are not two ply. I am using an serger with 3 threads in place. I have only washed them once but they are fraying. I want to make some for the cloth nappy community but don't want them to fray everytime. Will it get less like in your video or should I be changing my serger thread/stitch size/number of threads? Thanks for the video.
So do you wait until they are all dirty to wash them? I'm thinking they would get separated from the rest of the roll, maybe a few rolls of the same color, or all different colors to mix and match?
+persiusk I wash them when I do my regular laundry weekly. Just re-snap them on when they're clean. I do have two rolls in case we go through one before laundry day. The fun thing about these is that you can make them any way you want. I think that making a roll of many different colors would be really cool!
Great idea, however afraid I would have to have everything white so can bleach the heck out of them, even with just hubby here at home the stains would drive me crazy lol
+Dallas_Red The stains drive me crazy too! I don't use bleach here because we are on a septic so when they start looking bad I wash them the way our Great Grandmothers would have.... super hot water with a bar of soap on my washboard! They come out sparkling clean!
I am hoping to have my etsy shop back up and running by the end of the month. I will be offering items that I have shown here on RU-vid for sale. So, yes I will be selling these but am unsure what the price will be at this point. I will keep you posted though.
+Celeste D All the good things are BECAUSE of God! I am a Christian and do not apologize for my faith. I say that at the end of every video and will refer to Him on occasion. It is who I am. Just as I wouldn't presume to ask you to change who you are. I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial.
Marlen Batista you want to hear something funny, I clicked "her" video and told her I threw up a little in my mouth because she did not mention God. Not only did she get nasty, she removed her video. And she corrected my mistakes on my comment lol. I really think people need to just stop, if you don't like someone's video leave why comment something nasty. It's not like sewing videos are politically motivated, geez. God is Good!!!
