Good tests... Fyi, argan oil will go rancid [i.e. smell foul] over time because it is plant based... Baby oil = mineral oil + fragrance. I will use a cheap 'chip/paint' brush to apply MINERAL oil (I have on hand).

I love to make faux vellum using acrylic varnishes. I use spray varnish on napkins and use brush on varnishes with paper. My favorite being tea dyed tracing paper. It turns out perfectly translucent and seals the paper to a much stronger texture as well. I also prefer argan oil over baby oil. Most people don't have it on hand but it soaks into skin and paper very well. Great video!

@@VanessaVendetti veg oil DOES work - but goes rancid/smells foul after time....Mineral oil is better for DIY vellum - OR using candle wax/paraffin method - which is slow and cumbersome. (see YT video).

This was a very interesting and well done. . . experiment? Before I jump wholeheartedly into oiling papers, have you tried stacking your argan oiled paper with untreated papers and seeing if the oil transfers? I am very curious about this. Thanks.

Ok ... I got some Argan oil. It works FANTASTIC. And mineral oil is SUPER. I found out that if you put the oil on the reverse of something you've printed, especially using an inkjet printer, you can turn it into a vellum sheet.

Does the oil you used turn rancid? I saw on another channel that cooking oil turned rancid. So idk if it’s the same principal with these products. Thanks!

Just use plain old mineral oil, that’s what baby oil is, and you don’t need the added fragrance. It’s cheaper too. 😉

I remember doing this when i was 7 y/o. I accidentally poured too much oil on the paper and it was a nightmare to clean it all up before my mother got back lol. But the oil i used was my mother's hair oil which had a strong smell so yeah.... I did get an earfull😂
@VanessaVendetti

@@VanessaVendetti 😂 it was actually coconut oil. Parachute coconut hair oil. Our local and most favoured brand. Anyways... I'm in semester break currently. But they announced that classes will be online for the rest of the year😔 which...is safe in a way but fashion design is not a subject you study with your lecturer's face on screen😫 what a horrible year. How are you doing? And the rest of the family? I hope everyone is safe and healthy 🤗

Hello, just a comment, I've been watching several videos, on oils as well, it's seems most of these first experiments failed, only becuz they tried to let dry by itself, then most of them now finished up by using paper towels, which dries , plus soaks up any extra oil, u may want to try laying paper towels down first, and last after each completion of soaking with oil. Thanx

Actually vit E in oils help you to tan quicker and healthier. Unless you're not used to it and then oil will turn you into red and sunburnt. Aloe vera for that though. Kinda have to build up the sun contact hours in summer, or use oil everyday even in winter. People used oils and butter before sunscreen. Also Aloe vera. I prefer it over sunscreen because as an Asian I need more sunshine (vit.d) in the Netherlands so I love using tanning oils. With sunscreen I would lack in vit. D more. And without tan I look sick in winters 🤣 and without vit D have depression 😅. I love the technics. I prefer buying vellum because of the oily feeling. But I can see myself using this technic on paterned paper and already printed on paper.
