DIY Veneer - Using a vacuum pump for veneering large panels 

I have never heard of this style of veneer, thanks for the info! In Canada that plywood is known as MDO, Medium Density Overlay.

That commercial plywood looked like it had slip matched veneer, not rotary cut. Slip matching veneer is what gives you that repetitive pattern. Regardless though, you produced a great, high quality panel here - good core, good veneers, & good assembly work.

Great video James. How do you keep you mesh netting from coming out when you pull the plywood out? Is there any rules for placing smaller pieces around your platter? I’m going to attempt my first veneer bag press soon, two humidors pieces at once , the bag is 4’x8’

Hey James, thanks for this video. I’m hoping to get a vacuum pump from the same company and am trying to decide between the EVSsystem or the Venturi. Is yours that Venturi? I guess the EVS doesn’t need the compressor but also the pumps run either continuously or off and on. Does yours work with the compressor and if so how big. Compressor r u using? Anyway thanks again for the great video (beautiful piece of veneer btw👍). Also, I saw you had the writing desk from the Epic Woodworking channel. Doing research for my upcoming veneering adventures and this was a great explanation. Lots of other videos say you need to sandwich it between other sheet material, but you just have a net for airflow on the top of the bag and It came out great. Is a second board on top redundant?

I’m looking at the same Venturi pump. How do you like it? Deciding between that and a dedicated pump. I have a nice compressor setup so that’s why I originally considered Venturi.

I purchased some combo-core walnut veneer plywood for the first time about 3 years ago and I didn't realize until I got home that it had that noticeably repeating pattern. I immediately hated it and as I loaded it back into my truck to return it i noticed that the OTHER SIDE had the better grain pattern!😅. I've purchased the same product a couple times since and now i know that one side is the "good" side while the other side is the side that looks like they used the photoshop clone tool haha.

Just the video I needed. What is the way to clean the glue applicator? I am considering putting it in a plastic sealed bag in between glue ups. Thank you again for the great video.

Do you recommend applying both veneers at the same time? Or is it acceptable to one face on day 1, then the second face on day? Will the warping go away?
