DIY Retro Kitchen Makeover - Vent Hood - Desert Rose Gold vs Metallic Copper - Spray Painting using Rustoleum
I recently moved into a 1920s era house with a 1950s kitchen. Kitchen hasn't been updated since maybe the 60s or 70s. Has a vintage metal Cole Automatic vent hood which was painted ivory white at some point. It has faded to a gross dingy white. I'm doing a painting refresh and starting with the vent hood. Using copper spray paint.

I'm spraying this before the cabinets as it might have over -spray.
1. Taped off with drop cloths on counters, cabinets, stove and floor.
(Should have done more of the floor as even 10 ft away had over spray. But it scrubbed off ok on vinyl floors.
2. Make sure metallic is clean and dry. Used oven cleaner and then light sand paper.
3. Make sure you shake the spray paint for few minutes according to instructions.
( The one with the mixing nozzle Desert Rose Gold has primer and paint, it never worked right. Uneven and awful.)
4. Spray a light coat from about a foot or away.
5. Spray a 2nd coat
6. Let dry for an hour to be safe
7. Pull off tape and drop cloths.
Desert Rose Gold was indeed a pretty color. It is Rose Gold with a Deep copper pink undertone. It is nice but I decided was too pink for my aqua and red kitchen.
Hammered Copper was too dark and brown for my tastes. Nice nice color but more an an aged rust copper and not shiny enough.
Metallic Copper Bright Coat Gloss was perfect! This is the copper even your grocery store might sell. Very common color. 50 million Elvis fans can't be wrong, right? I love the color it is perfect. I was worried from the cap that it would be too orange or fake. It isn't at all. It is the perfect color of what you expect copper to look like.
