The measurements for the waist make absolutely no sense to me as a beginner. Can you please explain in better for someone who is new to sewing? What are all those numbers for?
she is dividing the waist measurement into 4. In her case that comes to 7 inches. I think she is saying to then add your preference of between 5 to 8 inches for the gathering. she chose to add 7 inches to her waist divided by 4 which is 7 inches so she is marking the waist 14 inches. I think.
Sorry for the inconvenience......my child waist is 28" divided it by 4=7 inches and then i said add 5 to 8 inches for gathering and I have added 7 inches for gathering that's why it becomes 7+7=14 inches.....it's simple
I understand people's frustration at not understanding the measurements. But I also think folks need to look closely and it becomes self explanatory. The fabric is folded and so whatever the waist is, needs to be divided, when cutting. My waist is 116 cm. So divided by 4 is 29 cm. As I want them baggy (full) I will add one third of my waist... which is 38 cm.. So now I am up to 29cm + 38 cm = 67 cm . I will obviously need more fabric to start with ! A piece of paper and some maths/drawing and I can make a mini (paper) version of the pants before cutting out. As its clear (thank you) that we need a rectangle of fabric, in 4 layers, on which we draw and then cut the pants. One can also adjust how low the harem look is, by adjusting that cut out, aswell. I think folks need to just jump in ! Maybe make a dolls size first and get a feel for it. A doll can be measured easily enough. Then the brain will "click " and the larger sizes will be easy to work out. Have fun folks. RU-vid uploaders do their best and it's a spring board for our own creativity. Thanks so much ! Very clear video on how to do it. I will adjust measurements because I am a plus size and tall. But the cutting and sewing up would be the same. I also want to add bands around the ankles. That is easy enough to work out.
I actually just used this to help with the shape of the plushie I’m making. It has clowny pants so I needed to figure out the shape of it and where to sew, so this was really helpful. It is funny though how I’m not taking any measurements on it. I hate math so I’m just winging it and making patterns without measuring them.
