I would recommend omitting the hydrangea and doubling the greens. :)

I prefer oasis green waterproof anchor tape.

Hydrangea actually loves humidity! But large arrangements, if you don't have refrigeration, the day before is ideal. If you have a nice cold room and make sure your foam stays refreshed with water twice a day, you can get away with 2 days before. Bridal bouquets and low centerpieces, 2 days before. Keep bouquets in vases or jars with water, and foam containers always topped off with water.

@@petalsavvy8463 Thank you. Last question, how much time should you plan per centerpiece? We are trying to do 6 large arrangements and 15 small centerpieces. The small will be around a lantern.

Are you doing just loose flowers and greenery around the lantern, or do you plan to do them in a foam form? For the big ones, give each designer about an hour, as you progress it may dwindle down to 45 minutes. It's a leaning curve and a flow. Lanterns with loose floral can be done super duper quick the day of the wedding in like 5 minutes per table. In foam it can take 10-15 minutes.

Is the reception going to be indoors? I do not recommend hydrangea for DIY'ers for hot, dry climates if the flowers will have to be outside at all! If you're just doing a couple of big pieces for the ceremony and it's indoors, do it the night before and keep them as cool as possible and refill the water tray before bed and first thing in the morning. If your reception is outdoors, I do not recommend hydrangea unless it's in water directly. I'm from Texas and did a wedding in a tent in March down near the Mexico border, there was like 0% humidity and even though I made the centerpieces at 3am the night before, just the air conditioned van ride to the reception and being in the tent for 20 minutes had those hydrangea dying. I'm in San Antonio, we have a fairly constant humidity, but it was so dry, over 90 degrees and we didn't have any sort of ac or fan or swamp cooler in the tent and it was so hot in there. We were removing and replacing our hydrangea left and right. I've never experienced anything like that. There are tricks, like using the pickling agent Allum (dip your stem into the powder after you cut it and before putting it in water or foam), and when you process your hydrangea to dunk the whole head in water, but I don't even think that would have helped this situation. If you can swap out hydrangea that would be going into foam with more roses and snapdragons, carnations, and alstromeria, I would highly recommend doing so. Those will all hold up better.

Always tape your foam into the lomey dish, otherwise your arrangement won't stay in place during transition. Pilsner vases aren't as stable so be sure to fill it with water. You should probably also consider a 6" lomey dish and cutting back on the recipe so your arrangement is smaller so it is a better proportion to the vase size. 7 hydrangea (premium size, not jumbo or standard which is small), 10-12 roses and 4-5 spray roses with greenery is a decent amount for a smaller tall arrangement. Use one full brick of foam, cut in half and stacked. Tape one strip of tape over the bottom half brick, and 2 strips in an X or even 3 strips for extra security over the second half brick. You can chicken wire but I don't find it necessary for smaller tall arrangements like this. Hope that helps!

Hi Joy! You can do this look with as little hydrangea as you prefer. Using the hydrangea just helps you easily achieve a round shape. But you can do the same style even without hydrangea, you just have to use more greenery and other flowers :)

That is a great question! A recent mother of the bride who followed this tutorial made 10 for her daughter's wedding, she said she spent roughly 1200 on flowers, foam and tapers, etc. And then the risers were extra. It depends on your local market or if you want to order online, though. :) if you have a local flower market you can call and ask them for a rough estimate based on the quantities (the recipe is listed in the video, multiply by how many you want to make and factor in bouquet flowers too). Or do an online floral source. We are working on establishing a way to help people source flowers as well, but it's still in the works. :)

If you're getting married indoors you should be just fine using hydrangea :) if you would prefer to substitute, you can! There's nothing quite as large, though, so you'lldo a 1:3 swap. Examples: You can sub each hydrangea for one football mum, a stock, and an alstromeria. Or swap for a snapdragon, a cushion pom stem and a spray rose stem.

It really just depends on where you get your flowers and if you want it that size, or bigger or smaller. To diy this, on average, probably around 125-150

I would recommend rewatching starting at about 2:30. It is 3 brick, that are cut to 2/3 of a brick. I place two side by side in the bottom, tape, then the third piece on top of those, and tape again. You could also do this with 4 bricks if you feel you would need more surface area, it's just very heavy.

It depends on the flowers. Hydrangea I would do the day before if in foam. If you're doing vases with water you could do Thursday :)

Yes, as long as you keep the floral foam well hydrated. I do not recommend hydrangea during super hot months or I'm arid climates. If your event is in a dry or hot area, use more greenery and roses or other hardy flowers for fullness.

Great question! When doing this size, I do not. It wouldn't hurt to do so but this isn't a huge arrangement so it's more manageable.

Great question! Yes, but for the average DIY bride theybare not practical, which is who these videos are intended. For my own business, for retail I like using chicken wire and water for low arrangements. however I live and work in San Antonio and most of the year it's hot and the flowers don't hold up well in packed moss and agra wool and other products are not readily available in our market.

I usually get my flowers on Wednesday for a Saturday wedding and leave at room temperature. You also want to make sure you get a rose that opens nicely. Some are more bulb looking and don't open as well as others.

I am sorry, I just saw this. Hydrangea does not hold up great in foam so I would say leave the hydrangea until Friday but you can start with greenery on Thursday.

Yep, which is why you need a nice, heavy sturdy base or stand that is very well balanced! The arrangement itself is also heavy so they all stay in place. There is special putty you can buy too, but it's not necessary.

You want to use waterproof anchor tape for arrangements like this. I like oasis brand the best.

Dans les deux cas, vous devez vous assurer que la mousse florale est bien hydratée et ajouter de l'eau tous les jours dans le plat pour que la mousse reste humide. L'hortensia n'aime pas la chaleur extrême, je le recommande donc pour les événements en intérieur ou dans des tentes avec des ventilateurs de refroidissement.

Les fleurs restent belles pendant plus d'une semaine dans un réfrigérateur, mais je reçois généralement mes fleurs le mercredi pour un événement le samedi et je les laisse à température ambiante pour qu'elles puissent s'ouvrir et mûrir. Si vous faites cela, puis mettez les fleurs au réfrigérateur, elles dureront encore environ une semaine !

Great question! I think it depends on the look you would want to achieve! You could half the hydrangea and reduce roses by a third, and add more greens. How many greens you add depends on the type as the bunches are different sizes and volumes. If you wanted to mix in silver dollar eucalyptus for example, I would add one bunch of silver dollar and half a bunch of salal aka lemon leaf. If you didn't want eucalyptus, but you wanted specifically more Italian ruscus, and you halved the hydrangea and reduced roses by 6, you would need at least 15ish stems of Italian ruscus, cut in half. Israeli ruscus you would need way more!

Hello! Yes, hydrangea is a very thirsty flower. We design with them the day before. Occasionally we will get a sad hydrangea and have to replace him but we make sure to water the foam and the lomey dish throughout the afternoon and evening as they drink, and before we leave, and when we come in in the morning! If your event is in a particularly Dry climate, and it's a hot season, you may want to avoid hydrangea.

@@petalsavvy8463 thank you for the link. I bought the green floral tape and it did not stick to the vase st all. This must be a different tape.

Did it look like this one? Plastic, green on one side with the sticky side more of a white color? Or was it more like paper? The paper tape is for making corsages and wrapping wire. If you did have a tape that was sticky, and did not stick to your vase, please note the vase must be completely dry for the tape to stick. So when you get this kind in the link, make sure your containers are dry. Another good practice is to tape across your first line of tape with another small piece horizontally (imagine your main line goes north to south, then you want a small piece to cross over it east to west)

I get mine from a few local wholesalers as well as wholesalers who ship in bulk to me via southwest cargo. If you're going to DIY, I recommend checking your city's floral wholesalers to see if they will sell to the general public as well. If not, flower moxie and fifty flowers are a great resource.

That's a great question! It depends on if you have flower wholesalers near you that will sell to the public or if you have to order online. I would say 125-180 in most cases if you're buying in bulk which beats the $300-400 you will pay a florist to make it!
