Top tip for mounting tyres on your so called "wrong" wheels. It's called a reversed lip, this means you put the wheel on the tyre machine upside down. This way the tyre goes onto it easy.
Pretty good work there. When pressing out the centers on your press, light pressure from the press, then hit with a hammer lightly with no chisel. The vibration will move the center without bending it. The press just gives it the direction to move with the light pressure.
Thank you! Yes, ive tried that, but didnt get the results i was looking for. The center didnt wanna move.... But i pretty certain if i try again and do it more properly it would work better. The wheels i usually do is the newever type, like 2008 and forward for volvos, and those rims are tighter then older rims. Helluva lotta work! :P
Hi mate Try using an sds drill on hammer with the chisel in instead of a big hammer and chisel to make the finer adjustments, I find you can make really controlled adjustments and it stops things bouncing about. Thanks for the vid a uk Volvo 240 (420) fan
U're right! I never got around to test this but i ground some chisels down. New job now that takes up alot of time so no time to make wheels anymore :( U're into wheel making?
I squashed part of a Rim Edge using an Hydraulic press while I was working on the Centre-Flip for one of the Wheels I'm doing on my Daughter's '71 Beetle. Luckily I had a Spare, so I cut out a Circle from a piece of thick Plywood that fitted inside the Rim Lip. That way, I wasn't pressing on the Lip, but on the Inner Angle, so no more lip damage.
Ah ye, really smart! I do the same when i hammer on the outter lip and newly added steelbank on conventional/easy widened rims. The 17" x4" rims u see i do this .So i, as u say, dont bend the absolut outter lip. Thanks for sharing that! knowledge is king!
Hey, can you explain me about the opel rims, I have the same and I wonder if it’s gonna be better if I flip the first and then widen them, so the added part is on the non visible side? Thanks
Exactly, u got it right! U get the bigger part, the more space, if u have the "inner barrel" outwards. The Wheel will appear bigger and u won't need to grind down welds and make it look better. Its more of an visible esteticly pleasing...view :p
Thanks for the vid. I have Peugeot van rims, 5x108, 7x17, et45something. Round holes! For my 240 I'm gonna swap inner and outer ring, gives me the right et value and some dish.
think my chevrolet fullsize pickuptruck has 5 on 105as for pushing out the center , you can make a pushtool , basicly a thick plat with a thickwall ring welded on that and machined to fit realy good against the edges of the center you drop it in the rim against de edges of the center from the back and use the press to push it out without pushing in the middle and maibe bend the center out of shape
Thanks for the video and explanation! This made me decide to widen my 17” steelies myself. I’m gonna build a rig like you have from an old 850/V70 wheelhub and a mount to put a grinder in. I’m also going to add a gauge to check if everything is square before I weld eveything. What would you recommend for widening steelies on a 245? Add a 3/4cm to the front wheels and back and flip the centers on the rear wheels? And also; did you but the strips pre-bent? Or did you bend then yourself?
Excellent decision! Hope u make a bid or something when u get started 😊 On a Volvo 240 the rear can swallow an OK amount of lip. Till the fenders, or better yet just cut some of it out. Volvo did a slight calculation error so the rear Axel is farther back then the fender. So it's gonna rub on the back of the fenders. Not sure exactly what CM u should go on but throw the wheel on and check. I would do the same style of widening, front and rear, else it looks like two different wheels. I bought the metal one cut and rolled it at my old school. But I think it's best to just buy it already cut and rolled. Easier. Good luck with the wheels!! :)
Thanks for the reply! I got a wheel hub last weekend and started on building the rig already. I'd probably widen all wheels the same way, instead of flipping the rear and not the front wheels. Now I only need to find a source for the rings to weld. Or build a bending machine to make the hoops myself.
Johan van Tongeren Awesome! Problem i had was that most metalshops didn't wanna make JUST 4 banded metal pieces, They wanna make huuuge profit on everything :p Try to find a nice little roofing shop or metalshop to get the metal done right. It's cheaper in the end and they cut it straight and true....hopefully X)
Very few alloy rims are made the same way as these steel ones. Some new production wheels are block made but i guess we wanna find cheap used ones. So basically no, they cant :/
ROAD-RUNNER the ones in the vid or in general? Yes, kinda, but it's basically the same thing :) Trying a new way to center turn which might turn out to be better. Less fiddle with balancing. Gonna make a vid about it someday
Oh here we go.... No. "oh but why does the welds look like shit then..." Just a bad welder x) I cut thru an weld and it was solid and no holes or pins. Tho i have gotten pipes sometimes. But then again, the welds isnt showing that well video ;)
That’s for the video. I want to have a steel 15’ wheels made for my VW vanagon. I am going for the deep dish look can I do 15 x 6.5 on the and 15x7 on the back with ET 35...! But don’t want to have the tire going out pass my fender! Please help me with my measurements
What year is your vw? Test a wheel u know fits, find the ET for it and messure from the lip out to your fender. Do u want to centerflip and widened or just widened? Just widened as usual, just messure from the lip out. Else try to think in revers. et 0 is the middle of a wheel. 35 is just 35mm off center. But, since u have 6.5-7" rims, it will be fine probably. THrow some camber on and u have more room to play with :)
Jimmy Weber A whole different beast. Very different to weld all the kinds of alloy mixtures most aluwheels has. And u can just extend the lip, much more variations on steel wheels. Yet again, it's "just steel wheels
ali nazeer Ye, the rims keeps getting sold before I can put them on anything xD. sorry about that! maby getting a continuous stance project to work on soon, a friends car... keep a lookout for that :) Rly cool of u to even remember my channel, bro!!
razmus andersson tjena! jag visst kan vi tjöta lite. dock lite osäker på specialbeställningar. har inte alla bultmönster till min jigg, men fråga på du, så svarar jag så gott jag kan! :)
Original Players sorry, i cant sell outside Sweden :( Where are u from? Maybe I can get u in contact with someone more local. Got a few dudes I know of
Original Players im in Örebro. Im Kinda on a hold with the rim making now, time is little :p What car do u want rims for? Im gonna see if I can find someone in Denmark if nothing else :)
creamtube I bet you if you start Volvo series it would be a huge success just look att driftsNlift or braden carlson. Everyone loves bricks even I own a 945 turbo
