Inspired by Willow's staff in the new Willow Disney+ TV series, I decided to make a LARP staff in the same likeness. Of course, I had to make it light up. There's going to be a lot of experimentation here. It's been a long time since I have done things like make a LARP weapon or even do soldering. We might fail horribly, but we'll learn new things.
I like making my projects accessible to you so we are working with things that in general you would find at a hardware store or you might have to go online and order. I have a list of the components that we are going to try to use for this crazy endeavor in the description below.
If you have any questions that I don't cover in this video, please ask them in the comments.
Components:
¾ inch PVC pipe
Two pool noodles or foam weather wrap for pipes
Contact cement
Gorilla Tape
5v switch
5v LED waterproof strip light
5v Power bank
Electrical wire
Soldering wire
Foam clay (the stronger stuff used for cosplay)
Foam Backer Rod
Acrylic Paint: dark brown, sand, black
Plastidip
Flex Seal Clear
Green and Blue Resin Dye
Flex Glue
¼ " Leather strapping in blue and brown
Braided Trim in gold
3/4" PVC slip to female threaded coupling
Chair rubber stopper to glue to the bottom of the power bank
Resin (the stuff that comes in the small tube)
Tools:
PVC pipe cutter or saw
Dremmel
Sand Paper
Heatgun
Soldering iron

From 9 to 5V, you just need a resistor.

Ya'know if you seal that foam tube it lasts longer, and that's probably why you have a few that have last a long time because whatever you did to them likely sealed them, even if only partially.

In order to "heat-shape" the pvc pipe, without it colapsing in on itself, creating unwanted kinks, fill it with sand! Just ordinary sand that you would find in children's sandboxes or the beach, DO NO USE ANY SYNTHETIC (plastic) SAND, it could actually melt, (besides, it's bad for the environment). This will fill and maintain the internal volume while you're bending the pipe. To help keep the sand in the pipe while bending, tape shut, or temporarilly apply end-caps to the pipe. Heat & bend the pipe as usual. Then remove the temporary caps, and let the sand drain out. Use a funnel, to help fill the pipe with the sand. One additional thing, make sure to use DRY sand, to fill the pipe. Wet, or moist sand, will tend to clump, 'make it difficult to fill the pipe, 'likely require additional heat to bend the pipe, and make it difficult to remove from the pipe. So, make sure it's DRY. And, avoid using "Magic sand". This is sand, treated with silicone oil, to make it clump & hydrophobic, (resistant to water). You want to use traditional, plain sand, ONLY.
