First - Awesome Video! I have a question - in the video you cut off the bottom of the center vertical post, but at the end of the video there is a brace going down to the concrete. Did you retrofit something or did you recut 2x4 to go all the way to the concrete? I am assuming you determined after the fact that it needed added support?
@DIYProjectGuys
@DIYProjectGuys 2 года назад
Hello. That was a total mistake. I cut all three rear 2x4s at the same time and I was not supposed to go the one going in the center. The center absolutely needs the 2x4 vertical support. I just put the cut piece back in with clue and some nails and some metal braces. I also have it off the concrete with some steel brackets between it and the concrete. I had already stained the 2X4 that I accidentally cut so I couldn't just use a new one. Thanks so much for watching .

This video gave me inspiration for my 12x10. Instead, I framed it differently and went only halfway down for a TV wall. Doubled up 2 sets of vertical 2x4’s for the TV mount and used 5/4” x 6” cedar decking board for the horizontal slats. Came out great!

I was all set to construct the wall on my 12X24 Yardistry Gazebo this week, but was told by too many people that due to the high winds in my area, (Apple Valley, Ca.) the integrity of the Gazebo's structure would be compromised quickly. I was so bummed, as I was ready to add the wall to my Gazebo, knowing it would have looked awesome. Thanks for your video though. For those in a high wind area, think twice about this wall before committing to it.
@leekilborn2034

I honestly doubt that the structure would be compromised by putting up a wall like this. If you have the gazebo properly secured on the footings, then it would be fine.

Hi Teddy. We did not stain the gazebo with the tugboat stain. The gazebo was already stained by the manufacture. We just used the tugboat stain to stain the privacy wall because it was a good match for the mocha color that was on the gazebo. Thanks so much for watching.

What did you add at the bottom of the middle support post? I saw that you added something at the bottom that wasn’t in the video you did an awesome job
@DIYProjectGuys
@DIYProjectGuys 3 года назад
I was not supposed to cut the bottom of that middle support off. I was supposed to cut the left and right because they were screwed directly to the side posts, but the middle was supposed to go all the way down to the ground because it needed to support the middle of the privacy wall. So when I cut all three at the same time, I realized I messed it up. If you look closely, you can see I put the cut part back on and I slipped some metal flat pieces under that so it didn't touch the concrete and get wet when it rains. That was a total mess up on my part. But, it will still support the weight because that thing is supported on the left, right, top and the middle. Good catch.

@DIYProjectGuys
@DIYProjectGuys 3 года назад
We got them at Home Depot and I don't remember if they came in 16 feet lengths but I am sure they do. Most lumber does come in 16feet lengths. But you could totally do 8foots and just do a seem in the middle with a trim board. I really like the seamless look though. Good luck!

This is exactly what we want to do, so thank you for the detailed supply list and instructions. Question - maybe it’s the lighting but your gazebo seems darker than ours. Did the tugboat stain lighten up to match the natural color of the cedar? 👍
@DIYProjectGuys
@DIYProjectGuys 3 года назад
The tugboat stain is lighter than the gazebo but its a very very close match. When you look at it all together, it's very hard to tell that the wall wasn't part of the original gazebo. We took a piece of the gazebo wood with us (the trim around the bottom of the posts) and chose color of stain that was close to it. If yours is lighter, you may need to go with a different color. But I think Tugboat will be your best bet still. It was the closest match to the cedar. Thanks so much for watching.

@@gonzalosanchez2318 No, In my opinion it the closest match. It also depends on the type of wood you are staining to match. I was staining pressure treated 4x4's (more yellow than cedar) and, with 2 coats it's almost an exact match. I put 4 small patches of stain on first to decide. I just sanded the other non-matching stains off before going with the boothill grey.

Hey there, How much did it cost you total? Trying to decide if I should buy the one premise from Costco or just use this. Thanks!

Question: Why build a privacy wall up against a block wall?
@DIYProjectGuys
@DIYProjectGuys 3 года назад
Hi B. There is a part in the video during the beginning where I show a photo on the screen of what the yard looked like before that wall. The block wall goes up about 6 feet, but in the photo you can see the whole top of my neighbors work truck with his ladders and all that right up against his side of the fence. If you go back an watch that part you will see what I mean. Our homes are on small lots so the back of my house is right up against the side of his driveway and home. You will notice in the video that not only did we build this privacy wall, but we added some trellises to the left of it and started some vines growing on that thing because the gazebo only blocks out half of the view of his work truck. It was the simples solution. Thanks so much for watching.

In the beginning we show you us putting a stain and seal on it. So make sure you do put some type of weather coating on it.

If it rains, i don't want the wood sitting in water. There was no reason for it. So i stopped it about 6 inches off the ground. We knew a sofa would go there and the bottom of that wall is completely hidden.

Thanks for this DIY, going to start this soon as well. Quick question, I couldn’t find the tongue and groove anywhere so we had to go with shiplap. We have all the same dimensions and wanted to know if this should hold up the same?

I'm looking to put this together myself in the coming weeks. The Yardistry gazebo is cedar. Your 13 T&G siding doesn't mention the type of wood. Did you go with cedar as well or a different type of T&G siding?
