Congrats to the Doctor in the house! How amazing. Enjoy your graduation trip and don’t forget to check out all the amazing yarn and cross stitch shops when you are there!
There are a lot of people out there who say SKEEN , like in New Zealand and Australia, so both pronunciations are acceptable. If your clever and thoughtful (and handsome) husband wants to say skeen, it's ALL RIGHT. 😘😘😘 This video was great, thank you so much. I'm subscribing.
Something I didn't even know I needed, but it sure is a good idea. What a sweetheart Tucker was to make that for you, especially when you said he has no handyman skills to speak of, and then allowing you to film him during the process. Two thumbs up to him.
He is a sweetheart and luckily, we both believe that the only way to really LEARN is to jump in there and try! Even if it had been a failure, we would have learned something, right?? The thing we really learned here is that those blog instructions were EXCELLENT, even for a novice, and there wasn't anything we we add or change! Now, I'm going to go share your sweet compliment with him, Cindy!
I was about to give up making anything graphgan. I spend more time untangling yarn than crocheting. Thanks for sharing your know how and talent with us crocheters! I will give you and your hubby's idea a try.
Ooooo... perfect timing: My last video shared my new favorite tip for yarn management which is a tray! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vxWlf-9jzJA.html
My son-in-law helped me. (He has the tools.) I bought a 1x4x6 which actually makes three of these. Since I often have more than 1 WIP, he made all three at a total of $2.46 each. I'm giving one to a friend who inspired me to 'risk' a c2c graphghan with color changes. It took the project from cumbersome to easy and organized in the wink of an eye, or should I say, the change of a dowel position. I sanded, he sawed and drilled. Only took 2 hours to make 3. Wonderful!
Glad it was helpful, Karin! I lost my dowels in the move so we need to replace those. I remember wrapping them up and tucking them in the box so I wouldn't lose them.... hmmm.....
This is so helpful. I started an intarsia baby blanket recentlyand it has 30 tails. I can knit about 5 rows and then I need an hour to unwind the butterflies. Your solution is exactly what I was looking for. I even have a bunch of dowels already.
Thank you. I was going crazy with my latest Graphghan . Besides being just what I needed, it gave my husband a quick project to do during these cold days when he can't be outside. Just watched the video and he's already headed to store for dowels.
This is a great idea even if you do not do graph afghans, like for instant when you make stripe beanies, or any crochet project using multiple colors. I love it.
Great device and when not in use with yarn I can use it to make ribbon bows for my wreaths. Now all I need is a Tucker and a Tyler. Thanks Margaret for doing all the hard work.
I made a Dragon Ball Z corner to corner baby blanket and it was my most challenging c2c pattern. I had over 15 bobbins at one time and didn’t have a bobbin holder😩 So I made sure to make a bobbin holder before starting my next c2c project! Thank you soooo much for this super easy holder! Can’t wait to make it today!!!💕💕
Happy New Year, Margaret! If you watched my Crafty Goals video, you know that one of my goals is to make the Christmas Character Blanket from Repeat Crafter Me. It is a C2C graphghan. What a cool tool!
I haven't watched it yet, Terri, but you know I will! I love Repeat Crafter Me and everything she does and naturally it was all her wonderful graphghans that inspired me! Not sure which one I'll tackle. I don't even understand how to do them yet! First things first!
Cool project. So nice to see your husband on here, as well as your son. For anyone who doesn't have a saw at home, ask at Lowe's and Home Depot, they'll cut your wood to length. You may even find they'll drill the holes, or teach you how to safely use a basic drill so you can do your own. You can also still purchase the old school manual drills if you don't like using power tools.
You know, Linda... I had always heard that on HGTV but our Home Depot & Lowe's back in MS wouldn't do that for us! Apparently, only certain ones offer that cutting service but it's certainly worth asking. And now that you mention it, I should sign up for some basic classes at those home improvement stores!
Margaret Olander I have been turned away for it when their saw was out of order a couple times. I found that to be a oxymoron, the saw for cutting lumber to length being out of order at the "home improvement store", it left me shaking my head.
I bought my supplies at Home Depot (it happens to be closer, otherwise no preference). Later I found a section where they sell shorter pieces. One piece about 25" cost as much as the 1x4x6 but it was nicer looking and negated cutting wood if you don't have a lot of tools at your disposal. Of course, there's still the challenge of cutting the dowels into 8" pieces. I don't have a work-around for that.
After I watched your video, I wanted to look around at JoAnns, but they didn’t have anything we went to Big Lots I seen something that would maybe possibly work, but My Husband suggested lets look at Wal Mart first and If that’s what I wanted we can go back to Big Lots. I didn’t see anything there at Wal mart, then too Lowes, I seen precut board like the one your Husband bought, My board was already cut .75 x 3.50 x 2, I bought a package of Poplar Dowels 1/2” x 12”. I’m going to have my Husband saw the dowels In half so I can have 12 of them, 6 Inches each. Thank you for sharing such a great Idea!!!
No, the big box stores don't seem to carry specialty items like this. Maybe at a LYS but as you can see in this video, I had specific parameters in mind! Glad it worked for you, too!
Sooo I know this video is a little bit older, but for anyone looking to replicate it I thought this would be a little bit of useful info in case they are worried about using a "different" size board. a 1X4 from the store will actually measure 3/4 " by 3 3/4" or 3.5". The reason this happens is that the boards are cut green at the mill and then they shrink slightly when they dry during shipping and storage etc. Also thanks for the video Margaret I hadn't figured out how one would use a bobbin holder like this without it actually causing tangles as much as it prevents them when you end up turning the work. I just used utilty clamps and wound yarn around them. This would have been much easier.
This is great! I did a C2C graphgan with only 3 different colors but at one point I needed 9 bobbins... what a tangled mess! I would love to try one again but I keep putting it off, this is sparking my desire to try it again. Happy hooking!
I imagine you still have to be careful not to tangle the strands but knowing me and my clumsy self, I'd yank 'em all over the place. This should (I hope) keep that from happening.
I have made my own peg looms for making rugs and funny that bobbin holder looks just like my looms and the pegs can be used exactly the same way. The looms of mine are 2,4 and 5ft long. Say heh who would have thought I would have another way to use my handy work !
Great idea! Sure my husband would make it for me. I have been trying to find instructions from step one of making the graph to doing a graphaghan. Amy ideas would be appreciated!
Well, I think the most comprehensive video on C2C graphghans comes from Mikey of the Crochet Crowd because he shows you both the stitches AND how to read the graph. BUT remember that there are others out there so if he's not the teacher for you, keep looking! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oZk8hk6w1xc.html
Hi. I've seen that site before (probably got there from Pinterest too), but I never saw a need for one. But you never know, maybe I will at some point in time. So are your skeins supposed to roll/spin on the dowels? I think I'd use skinny pvc pipes because they're so smooth. What about a peg board laid flat? Or would that be too thin? Thanks. Ann
Yes, Ann... rolling/spinning or I suppose you can pull straight up from the yarn if it won't cooperate. The main goal is to help manage the strands. These store-bought dowels are very smooth except for their cut ends. You'd have to sand the ends of the PVC pipe, too, wouldn't you? Hmmm... (I don't know much about construction stuff.) Tyler is standing here and together we decided the pegboard is too thin. Whatever you need for the base needs to come up higher on the dowels. Maybe you could glue a couple pegboards together. ??
Yes, I guess you'd have to sand the ends of the pvc. I didn't think peg board was that thin. Whatever works, right? They did a nice job on yours btw. : )
