Always nice to hear a musician quote the song a contrafact is based on, like Sonny does with _Whispering_ at 3:52. I think it's a service to the audience, in case they've forgotten or are just now noticing. _For Musicians Only_ was one of the albums we played to death back in the day. If you like Caterina Valente, I'd recommend her combination of _Whispering & Groovin' High._ They all listened to Dizzy and Bird and Sonny and Bu the beloved liar. Those were the days!

Once upon a time, I was at the Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport, looking for my flight to Denver. Had my MK VI tenor in a flight case on my back. Some random dude comes up and says "Sonny Stitt!" I told him my then mentally still in high school girlfriend always said "Sonny's what?" So we had a nice talk, he was a fan, not a player.

Thank you, loved it!!!⭐🌹⭐😎🌹⭐ Always great downloads,Bret. What can you tell us about Gafa, the guitarist?

Gafa worked extensively as a session musician for recordings in the mid and late 1960s in New York. In jazz he worked in that decade with Kai Winding, Michel Legrand, Sam Donahue, Duke Pearson, and Carmen McRae. He worked with McRae until 1971, then played in the 1970s with Dizzy Gillespie, Mike Longo, and Yusef Lateef. Gafa put together his own small groups in the decade; his sidemen included Kenny Barron, Ben Brown, Al Foster, Steve LaSpina, Andy LaVerne, Dave Shapiro, and Richard Wyands. He worked with Johnny Hartman from 1978 to 1982 and in the early 1980s with Susannah McCorkle and Joe Albany, Sammy Davis Jr., Sylvia Syms, Morgana King, Shirley Horn.

My God thank you!! interesting no piano when Dizzy always encouraged knowledge of the keys. Gillespie an Stitt so strong together; I guess you have to be bastante athletico to play this tune. Funny story about Art Blakey falsely claiming to write Night in Tunisia in ‘44. Jazz Video Guy, you got the goods 🎉
