Even though JT didn't come into it and sang it 'like a man,' his appearance here actually is one of the reasons why before this performance, Chris was only really known in country music circles with his first album finding moderate success, but relatively no one else has heard of him. Directly because of this performance LITERALLY overnight, Chris Stapleton went directly to #1 on country charts and he's only gotten bigger since. Not often you can pinpoint the exact moment someone goes from 'talented and respected' to a full-blown star, but this is one of those moments. Love to see it, and enjoyed the reaction as always!
Actually, that very award show, he had won Best New Artist, Best Album and I think Male Vocalist of the Year. Yes...this helped broaden exposure for sure, but have a feeling that we would be listening to him anyway.
I’ve been watching you guys for a long time , this is the first reaction video that you both were so wrong that i started laughing, my brothers its not always about the grill of the voice or how to sing country music , its the about the harmonie that both of them had together a rare mixture of sweet smooth voice with grill howling one, no one can harmonize that , Jt showed the high notes and cs showed the longevity and raw in thair voices, and it matched like a miracle , and this performance was talked about so much not just fans but also big stars that they did a song together . Chris Stapelton's live version of Barely Alive. It's not just a performance, it's an experience. I've seen it 100 times and I still physically clinch when he hits that big note. Edit: To my knowledge there's only 1 live version of it. The studio cut was recorded when he was with the Jompson Brothers. The audio quality starts out poor, but 60 seconds in Chris handles that.😉

Y’all are hilarious! I think this is a great and super fun live performance. The problem is, JT is trying to sing on a signature song. Chris’ version of Tennessee Whiskey will forever be the definitive version of the song and it’s so good you want to hear the next part the way he sings it. JT was great, but you just *want* to hear it sung the way Chris sings it. Drink You Away was an absolute blast though.
Go back. Watch it again. This time, stop listening to the guys up front. Listen to the band. Pay attention to what's going on behind them. THOSE guys are putting on a master class in improv. You get to hear a bunch of professionals play music they love just for the sheer joy of playing together in an environment where they're totally safe to do whatever they want and know that everyone around them has their back, won't let them fall flat. That was due entirely to the environment of collaboration both Chris and Justin cultivate amongst their respective bands. You can't just do an off time scale like Justin did in the one part of the song anytime you want. Your band has to be paying attention. They have to be deep in the pocket to pull something like that off.

Agree with you in general that their genres, and them as individuals, don’t really work together, yet somehow in this matchup, for me and many reactors/comments, they delivered a stellar performance. I’m not a huge JT fan and I love Chris, but Chris is introverted with his talent, and JT is extremely confident in performance and versed enough in multiple to play outside his field, (but can’t top Chris in his own lane,), somehow this unlikely mashup gave us the best of both which morphed into….just more…and hella fun.

Look, I am not telling you that you are wrong but understand the risk Justin Timberlake took here..if you know the story about how this happened...this was Timberlake elevating Chris stapleton....he would not have gotten 8 or 9 minutes to shut this award show down without JT...and Timberlake did not hold him back...he unleashed him..he highlighted him, even on his song! This made Chris blow up....and Justin was brave enough to do it! Very few can sing with Chris..as u dive down the rabbit hole Chris performs w alot of legends but many are at the end, so Chris out of respect holds back but JT let's him shine!..further features his talent..that speaks volumes for who he is!

Chris was invited to perform, he had just put out Tennessee Whiskey but he had severe stage fright. He legit was going to turn down the invite. His best friend talked him into performing by offering to perform with him, bringing us one of the best collabs to hit the CMA's. I pesonally loved the entire performance, thought JT held his own, they just have very different styles. But that, guys, is how the world came to know the Chris Stapleton that we all love today. I really enjoy the combo of Justin Timberlake w/ Chris & Morgane. "Drink You Away" is great, too; but, Chris blows Justin outta the water & off the stage! I love this performance and I love your reaction to it. I think it's awesome how people from different genres of music can come together so well in a performance. I have a lot of songs I could reccomend you react to that would really tug at your heart strings, but I'll skip those. However... I do have some I am going to reccomend. My first recommendation is Teddy Swims. My song recommendations for him are... Bed on fire, My bad, Please turn green, Blowin smoke (all originals of his), but you could also react to his cover of I can't make you love me or You're still the one. My next recommendation is Allen Stone Brown eyed lover, Consider me or Sunny Days. My last recommendation is to listen to Garth Brooks The thunder rolls then listen to the version of The tender rolls by a group called State of Mine. It's the same song but done in 2 totally different genres. I think there is emotion in both versions, but the power in the State of Mine version really changes things up.
