Absolutely. She's kind of his voice coach and she's the one who encouraged him to get out there and sing and not just be a songwriter. They sing exactly the same, with the same inflections and nuances. She makes those harmonies pop at the top end.
We can thank Chris' wife Morgane, on stage next to him providing harmonies, for bringing his amazing voice to the stage. He wrote for others many years of hits, before she finally encouraged him to perform!
I had the same reaction....we were watching it on TV the night it was on, and I paused as soon as it was over, looked at my wife, and said "I think that's the best live performance I've ever seen". We watched it like 5 more times right then.
If you notice during the second verse of Tennessee Whiskey Chris was going to do the run and sees JT coming to the mic and motions with his hand for JT to take it. Improv at its finest.
That's morgane Stapleton. Chris' wife. And you are right. He could sing you are my sunshine. Both him and his wife recorded a version of it. Please react to it.
This is one of my favorite performances ever 🖤 Two masters of their craft. •What Are You Listening To? (XTU Live Acoustic) •Sometimes I Cry (Bing Lounge) •I Was Wrong (live Austin City Limits) •I love Fire Away but I can’t watch the video again. It’s heartbreaking.
This was a spectacular performance. With JT and his band behind them it took that song to another level. It’s a great song with just Stapleton and Morgane but with those horns and JT added in just - WOW!
In my 60 plus years of his is the BEST live performance I have ever heard. The grove is so deep and everyone up there is totally crushing these 2 songs. Damn!!!!
Listening to Stapleton is sort of like listening to Zeppelin. It might not be your favorite genre, but there isn’t a bad song and the genius is obvious.
Thanks man, means a lot! Do me a fav and share the video around, RU-vid is really tricky whenever I react to an artist I didn't talk about before. Cheers!
Justin threw down too tho !’ His falsetto is off the charts !! A lot of people say it’s the best live vocal performance they’ve seen .. I think so too w maybe Elvis’s Can I Dream video ..
Well, I don't do country, but I loved the runs in the first song, and the second song was awesome! Love JT! Thanks for the introduction to these songs. I might have to expand my music horizons. 😂
Those runs were sick! And yeah, JT is great! As for country, there are a lot of songs I like, and there are some that I find cringy, but the ones I like I really, really like :) Thx for the superchat once again, you're my most loyal supporter hehe ❤️
That lit the fuse for Chris' skyrocketing career. He was already a staple in Nashville. His writing credits are numerous. Morgane, his wife and harmony singer, is probably a better pure vocal talent than Chris. The majority of the world may not have known his name before this night, but I guarantee that everyone in that room was already well aware of who he was and from their reactions you can tell that everyone was ecstatic for his success. Dive on down the rabbit hole. I first heard him sometime around 2010ish when I first heard his version of "Your Man", the song that he wrote and Josh Turner cut and had great success with. The old live videos are just insane. Sometimes I Cry and I Was Wrong are phenomenal examples.
I would like to suggest live version of Tennessee Whiskey from Austin City Limits. Woman back up singer is Chris's wife Morgan. Chris has stage fright and looks to her for support. He also loves her and you will see him sing special lines just to her.
Those of who listen to Chris Stapleton, laughed when you said you weren’t going to be pausing a lot😂😂😂. We all knew better🤣. And now you do too! Chris is a ONCE IN A GENERATION talent. All we can do is sit back, pause, rewind, pause, rewind, and enjoy!
When Stapleton is enjoying himself, things get properly *Transcendent* .... & JT does great here too.... but JT's band is the definition of *bitchin'* here! #CrazyGood :)
Ha!!! That's funny. Chris literally sang You Are My Sunshine to Morgan (his wife and backing vocal) and she loved it so much she did a version of her own of it solo and there is video of that too. 😉
I believe that’s JT's band, by the way. Chris and JT are friends and it was his wife Morgan (the fabulous backup singer) who suggested he call Justin to sing with him because he was feeling nervous-imagine. This was said during an interview. I love the contrast between Chris’s raspy voice and Justin’s pure voice. I would’ve never dreamed these two would sing together and create such a beautiful rendition of the song.
So amazing! I've seen Justin in concert several times and his band and background vocals perform with this energy EVERY time. It's incredible to see live!
Wow, you made me a happy human today. After a monumentally crap week I just wanted to hear something I knew would let some warmth reach my soul. When I put Stapleton Timberlake CMA in the search box, without knowing it (sorry), I clicked on your channel. my initial reaction was to reach for the "back" button. For 2 reasons. One, I just wanted to hear the songs and two, as a broadcaster, I didn't want anyone shredding that performance. Having pushed my mouse under the monitor, I (thankfully) couldn't click away before you stopped the recording with the same reaction I had at first hearing...wow! Very happy I stuck around. Thanks, david
Dude, I live for these kinds of comments, glad the video had that something that actually made you stay until the end. The performance was killer, I still listen to it every so often
@@HofTheStage Heya H, Thanks for the reply sir. Wanna know who put just the right amount of polish on this colab? When JT starts counting in the second song, look for the bassist over Justins' shoulder. That's JT's long time band director Adam Blackstone. Genius to the core. Stay well, d WeatherPros (at) Hotmail
Its definitely my favorite live performance. Although Pink's Glitter in the Air during the grammys is beyond phenomenal, just in a slightly different way. It blew my mind when I saw how skilled that woman is.
You should listen to Chris and Morgane Stapletons version of "You Are My Sunshine". She sings lead and is an amazing artist in her own right. You'll never think of the song the same way again.
Funny you should mention "You are my Sunshine", Morgane (the background vocalist) is Chris's wife and there is a video of her singing that very song with Chris a back-up. The best cover of that song that I have ever heard. Very old-time country-folk style.
JT could’ve sang the phone book and we would’ve listened. We weren’t too sure about Chris at the time. He was new. Justin gave us a helluva introduction and we’ve never looked back! That performance is iconic and not the only one they’ve done together. Just fantastic!
I love Chris Stapleton! Everything that I've heard from him has been way beyond what I have even anticipated! This performance is almost life-changing. The harmonies are exquisite. His wife Morgan Stapleton has an absolutely clear mountainous beautiful voice. I've watched this a few times and just can't get over how he can sing and I was very impressed with Justin Timberlake.
The other thing I wanted to say was I read about this performance also. They stated that the band in the background were all from gospel music groups. If you listen to this again you could hear one of them saying get it. It's the performance of a lifetime!
If you haven’t yet, check out his performance of Cold on the 2021 CMA Awards. It will melt your soul. Then any of his live performances of Tennessee Whisky, I Was Wrong, Daddy Doesn’t Pray Anymore, Broken Halos, etc.
"Singing with grit"... no hes just opening his mouth and thats how it sounds lol. Omg these last CMA awards he sang with his hands in his pocket. Like sir BYEEEE GET OUT 😂😂😂
I love justin been a fan since his mickey mouse club days drink you away is Justin's song he is from Memphis Tennessee he started out doing country then he got in the band nsync which is pop music and now he is solo he actually just moved back to Tennessee he said he doesn't want to raise his 2 sons in the city I love when him and Chris sing together their voices sound great together
You need to react to Sometimes I Cry by Chris .. also this was his first CMA performance and he won three awards .. he won the new artist award album of the year and male vocalist of the year ..when Luke Bryan won entertainer of the year that night he said he’s so inspired by Chris !! Chris wrote Luke’s song Drink a beer .. Chris wrote for a lot of artists even Adele before he was famous
Chris is one of the best vocalists ever he is up there with the greatest of the greats. Justin is amazing too but I'm definitely more drawn to Chris's vocals more, this is a great performance period by both and I agree I can listen to Chris 24/7 and never get tired of it. Chris's wife Morgan is the female she's always on stage with him and yes she can sanggg the heck out of it too. On a side note, Adam Levin is a great GREAT guitarist, vocally he's auto tuned a lot
I love to hear the thoughts of musically professionals on all the songs that I love, especially when it is the first time they are hearing the songs that I love. Keep them coming. The Hu ... just a thought.
If you haven't done, I Was Wrong by Chris Stapleton, the live Austin City Limits version you need to listen and prepare to be blown away....his exceptional guitar lead at the end is legendary. Thank you for your consideration. Never listen to studio versions of this man.
Check out Chris's version of It's a Man's world. And some of his stuff with the Steeldrivers. A Bluegrass group he was with before fame. His song If it hadn't been for love was covered by Adele.
