He is not underrated. He has tons of respect from people who actually know Hip-Hop. He just never became too mainstream that even 16 year old girls listen to him like Eminem, NWA,2pac e.t.c. ...
For real, im just saying this guy was literally a genius with production and sometimes it frustrates me that he's not often put in the same category as more famous producers like Dre, Premo, Pete Rock etc
Not really.....these dope songs just age well..... Quik is kinda like Eazy..... And what I mean is you'd be surprised how alot of these songs weren't as popular as RU-vid would make you believe. 🍇👈. Should've been
This is when hip hop told a story, had substance, and you could feel where they was coming from. Dj Quik is one of the G.O.A.T. a Legend and Pioneer in the hip hop industry. On top of that one of the G.O.A.T. music producers ever. Show the O.G. respect
As prolific a career as DJ Quik has had I still believe he’s been underrated and doesn’t get the proper recognition due to a person with his musical talents
This dude's name is DJ Quik!! That was and still is unheard of. Not MC this or that but DJ. Yet can Rap better than a lot of MCs. Let that sink in!!! Each album took you somewhere different!!! Genuis!!Give this muthaphuka his roses while he's here!!
I've been fortunate enough to have seen Rap's rise as a legitimate genre; from Rapper's Delight in 1979 onward... And I must say that DJ Quik is a top 10 artist for me. He's a legend
Me too because I'm a older than most here. To be truthful I am distressed right now at the direction of rap and hip hop. I miss the artistry, the creativity, the flow, the beats, the lyrics. No diversity in sound these days, everybody sounds the same. Just the way I feel
One of the most prolific hip hop artist there is. Pen game strong, production wise he is a killer. Pushed the boundaries of hip hop and R&B. People want yo give Dre the crown but Quik is the true king
@@jay-quinthunder7967 u know back then on the east coast we were at least 3 yrs ahead of the country especially if u were from NYC... we were wearing starter jackets about four years before NWA came out...
😌 They won't give bro his flowers until he passes. This was my jam when I was back in the 5th grade. DJ Quik, CMW, Above The Law, King Tee, N.W.A., we played the hell out of all these artists and groups in GA.
War zone era 80’s and early 90’s. You don’t seem him all “bombton blood “ flamed up chunckin signs. They kept it subtle. Plus color tripping was real back then. Those who knew... knew
Hell yeah I went to Fairfax high school and even if you didn't bang you couldn't wear to much red. Cause they will confront you! Even if they knew you!
MCMXVI Records I'd say QUIK isn't one of the most underrated producers of all time he is THE MOST UNDERRATED of all time...he gets much love here in memphis 10 tho the dirty south is a hotbed for hip hop...DAVID BLAKE keep giving us the real hip hop n RnB....
Letting em know they can't fuck with the one man band. The true one man band. One of the most talented musicians in all music. In 91 all the gangsters were bumping Quik and all the pranksters were bumping Ice Cube. Eternally underrated by everyone except those who truly know hip hop. Mr. Blake.
Fuck Ice Cube…used to respect him and like his music until he showed his true colors. Fucken Sell out Trumper! 🖕🏼 Got rid of all his Vinyl Albums too. DJ Quick is a Musical Genius though.
I like Cube and Quik, both of them are amazingly talented men and handsome. Having worked and lived in California and being a native West coaster myself I know you're full of shit. FOH
I remember when this joint first dropped! See the starter jacket bombers, Quik had everybody switching up to get the trench coat joints! Classic Material 💥
I used to bump this song in early 90’s in my 1985 Chevy S-10. With a 18” Orion sub in a solid speaker box behind the single cab bench seat. Had the seat all the way forward pressed almost against the wheel. But didn’t care, it was all about the tunes! 🔊
@@carycampbell1398 Had a buddy that was 6'2" w/2 15's behind the seat of his single cab D 50. He was cool as shit back then, but it didn't really sound that great since the box was too shallow! I gotta lmfao off at what we did back in the day. I started w/ 2 10's in my reg cab mazda and took a few years to get to Orion 15's in the bed on a Punch 200 in the bed with a blow thru and a bed cover. Good times.
MAN..#Born n Raised in Compton too..U n Sugar Free, still giving US Music to groove to...Thanks for not getting old n put music aside..Thsnks for still being here for Me... Peace God Bless....Do Yall Thang...Comptom.....
Cover brought back memories. I haven't heard this song in about 15 years and I still knew every damn word. I loved DJ quik. This shit just made me smile as I'm sipping. I hope all yall listenin having a good time
It's a shame how this Legend don't get his rightful props not only for his own music, he produced some of the biggest artist in the game he dam near produced 2pacs All Eyes On Me whole album. Give this man his flowers while he still here please
My oldest brother introduce dj quick music to his sister's and brothers. And I've been curious about dj quick biography ever since. The songs we listen to my brothers bring back good times. You're amazing dj quick, I do the dishes and dance to you're music 🎶🎵. Good times
One of my favorites of all time!!! I had just graduated high school when this came out!!!! Now I’m 51 in 2023! It’s still banging and better than most new tracks today!
CLASSIC!!! I don't even remember when I first heard this cut? I didn't embrace "gangsta' rap". I'm born and raised on the East Coast. This was actually the very first cut I bought of that genre. I got it on cassette single when I was home on leave from "Operation Desert Storm". Somehow I was really feelin' it? The beat and Quik's flow was just tight! Little did I know I would end up transplanted in Cali? I got mad love and respect for Quik. I hope to meet him one day. Stranger things have happened in my life... lol PEEESE!
Itsfunneh the LA Kings we found out later that it was a hockey team and we was like wait a minute they got a ice hockey team in La LOL 91 I would like 12 or 13 years of age so you got excuse me LOL
After playing Dj Quick & Eightball & MJG for so many yrs as, my mother till this day has some of their songs on her play list & vice versa. The woman still can get down, if need be🤗
This song has been playin' in my head all day long. I just had to come and check on it. If you add a lil' extra bass on it, it's gon thump hella hard. Trust. I have good memories behind this album because my dad had the cassette and every time he'd turn around, it would end up in my cassette player. Hell, he even tried to hide it in his glove compartment. That didn't work.😉 You are so underrated, Quik. That means yo' music is top quality through and through. And them beats you done created over the years... Come on baby! Top quality.
LaChele Yea if you played the cassette tape in a quality system back in the day the baseline was incredible.Thats how I became a big fan when I would go see my cousins in the projects it was them or somebody bumping this or Tonite in them big ass speakers everybody use to have. You could hear the baseline when you was around the corner and it sometimes even sounded better from a distance just bcuz of the baseline. They don't make music like this no more
You can hear the knock off these computer speakers. I bumped this back in 91,,one year removed from high school. i remember hearing this saying everyone is trying to milk Compton off the success of NWA. I think Quik was actually born in Louisiana and moved to Compton later on.
Old Turntables Quik said he was influenced by several people Dre being one of them.I think making this album he said he was listening to a lot of Too Short's Life Is Too Short album and you can tell especially when you listen to Sweet Black Pussy. He said he was inspired to make music to by Teddy Riley and that whole New Jack Swing movement and Keith Sweats first album. As far as Quik not being from Compton born at least I don't know I mean that's where his mother was from so it could be true but people have tried to say he was born in St Louis to which is pretty far fetched. If he was born in Louisiana it's not like nobody from the west coast gonna disown him he is the west coast and put on for Compton for years he was definitely raised there even if he wasn't born there
52 years old, white chick from the San Fernando Valley .. old ass punk rock gangster... 🙃🤪 this song is the shit god dammit.. Good times , thanks Sylmar and DJ Quik 💜
