Love Quik, great interview! He had one of the best if not the best line in a diss record that I've ever heard. "Tell me why you act so scary, givin' your set a bad name with you misspelled name E-I-H-T, now should I continue? Yeah, you left out the "G" 'Cause the "G" ain't in you!"
Tripa Coffeenator Dre knows sounds for certain key arrangements I'll give him that! But building from the ground up he's not in DJ Quik Ant Banks Mike Mosley&Sam Bostic Pete Rock Nicolay 9th Wonder class.
+Mike S.yeah those albums are classic and clean sounding i wonder does purple rain soundtrack count Thriller will always remain the cleanest album of all time
I'm a huge DJ Quik fan. I used to jack my dad's Quik is the Name tape all the time. His Unsung was really good last night. When I listen to his music, I'm fully focused on those beats first. He has a way with those beats and it's undeniable. They just make me think of my childhood. I always juggle between his first 4 albums, but I think I'm feelin' Safe + Sound the most right now. And the way he started out Jus Lyke Compton.....man please! One of his best. I can go on and on about him. I love him. Good interview. These are the artists I want on Unsung next: Tevin Campbell, Mya, H-Town, Kelly Price, Mic Geronimo, Aaron Hall, Brian McKnight, Tony Terry and a few others.
lol though he's likely just saying that so he can continue getting that lil stimulus package (beats music catalog). Though Personally I think quik is the better musician, and more technically knowledgeable, dre's produced that shit that knocks, many hits and has launched the careers of top of the line artist.
So far, every interview i've seen by BigBoyTV has been captivating, interesting and relevant. What I appreciate is the balance between what the fans want, what the person being interview wants, and the Business of The Business, but still fun and light, yet deep and revealing and most importantly is the genuine feel the Interviewer has for the person being interviewed and extracting excellent information from the guests. The situation is verbally set up to picture the moment, and they're intimate, yet respectful. I appreciate these. These are jewels for the lifelong fans of some of these guests since the 80s and 90s. I also appreciate the extreme High Definition Cameras, Crystal Clear Quality Microphones, and overall 21st Century Level Total Video Production aspect of these. Even that cowbell has a place. Top notch props to the production team that makes these shows look and sound so clean. Professionalism. .... and yeah man, I had Born and Raised in Compton, Way 2 Fonky, Safe n Sound, Penthouse Playaz Clique, Hi-C, AMG, Skanless posse cuts, all that.
I'm think I'm probably the biggest DJ Quik fan & I'm from the east coast. He's not my favorite rapper but I have nothing but respect for this man. His producing alone speaks volumes
@@purplekisses6800 yo at the end when he asked to say one last thing and big boy said "I'd rather you not" ?? and all he wanted to say was happy birthday 2 Pac. SMH
I remember when Q' dropped in 90' I honestly thought dude was related to the late Eazy E. He sound like him. No body can do the high pitch sound like Eazy except Q'. Not to mention Q' came hard and came as himself. Legend!
Spoonie G Beg for a pass? what do you mean? Im not too familiar with street slang of that variety. Second Ive never heard of this story from any official source, nor has quik ever talked about it.
"I remember crawling everywhere because I didn't have the strength to walk" DJ Quik unsung He really to this day still misses musberge man. Keep pressing on quik.
Truly was I have seen it twice already! It really touched me who knew he went through so much? I'm glad he is at a great place in his life and that his music is still effecting people. I hope continues to keeping doing this thing as an musician an engineer and producer. He's awesome!
Love Quik so much. Loved the unsung episode & have more respect for who he is as a person & what hes been thru. I hope he gets that big deal & never has to worry about money again. Hope i can finally see quik perform live at the HOB in LA too. It would be my dream. Much happiness to you 🙏🏼
Mass respect to BigBoy for the best interviews and for always caring and being hilarious. DJ Quik is arguably the most consistent and underrated producer ever in hip hop along with DJ Premier. Quik is so underrated. Go buy his albums!
Quik is one the G.O.A.T.s Engineer, Producer, Artist the definition of the one man band!!! man this interview was amazing. Oh yeah I want that “Rich Smell” too!!! 🤣
I got into Hip Hop much later than my friends and people my age. But when I did, my musical life changed once i heard Safe n Sound in '95, Quik's Groove in particular. A flawless jazz instrumental on a Hip Hop album? Are you fucking kidding me?? Quik, thank you for opening my eyes, for putting the music first, for being a true profession artist.
DJ Quick is a living, working legend. Big Boi's in love with the sound of his own voice. For a real DJ Quick interview, you'll have to listen to someone other than Big Boi. This is the last time I'll tune in to Big Boi - I'm out!!!
I was able to see Quik perform live in concert and it was a awesome experience. Also, got an autograph was hoping i could get a photo op but i wasn't lucky enough. Living Legend!
I love when he talks about the suga free story lol Why you bullshitin! And although big boy got on my damn nerves interrupting him I'm glad he asked him about how the music is made because nobody really can't keep up with him engineering, arranging, producing, mixing, etc. His music gives me chills especially the quik grooves. Overall awesome interview!
DJ Quick is the realest. My fav part is him vacuuming his studio. Good advice right there. Clean your studio! Vibe is everything. No one wanna record in your nasty bedroom with dirty socks everywhere. Get professional.
I'm a house music fan, but I totally respect the old school hip hop guys. I've been in DJ Quick company in Thailand when he had a gig at a friend's club. A real nice guy that was easy to get in with.
Just watched Quiks unsung. What an incredible documentary! I wish they could have added more. I feel there was more left out i was really wanted to see more but overrall I wasn't dissapointed. I couldn't have imagined all the crap and things he has been thru personally and musicially. But I'm proud of him. He is a true legend and pioneer of west coast music and hip hop. The GREATEST to ever do it. An artist, an musician, an engineer, an arranger, an mixer, an producer....etc! Bout time people start to recognize this man!!! I wish the best and hope there is much much more to come for him. This documentary is awesome the best one I have ever seen. God Bless you Quik always and forever inspired. You and your music alone!!!
Dj Quik, can you start rapping again like some of these old rappers are doing? You are such a good musician and you can change some of these ass rappers nowadays.
the way quik talks about music shows how much he still loves it, i doubt he puts out albums all the time, but he'll work on something in music till the day he dies for sure
TRUE he in it for the love of MUSIC and one of his rewards for his hard work is MONEY but you never here him BRAGGING about his money, jewelry, cars, etc unlike these HIP POP(yes pop) music fake wannabe lil WAYNEkstahs now days
*Eastside Low Bottoms shit !* Q is the greatest rapper/lyricist/producer/engineer/musician/curator of energy to ever live ! PERIOD ! Much love and respect from South Central Los Angeles. 💪🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾💪🏾
Dj quik will forever stay in my heart and soul because of that music, he is an innovator, soulster, funkster to the core, his cow bells and synthesizer just give you a feel like you somewhere over here or over there, this is definitely a bomb interview with the right dude interviewing him.
That Baby Phat joint he did for De La Soul was so cool and just aw man IDK even know the words for it. He has a smooth sound but he can get gritty. Top 5 best hip hop producers of all
All of us hip hop lovers know that D.J.Quik is way underrated!! But he's just stubborn kinda fella with a head like a brick!! I'm about to bump some Quik right now just because of the interview!
