The extra board you are looking at has chipsets for the BIST (Built in self test) feature to generate test signals. The SMA connector on that board goes to the RF board BIST input.

These where supplied to Russia and have been use in the Ukraine to target drone pilots. As well as an early warning system.

Well, DJI is basically a government controlled company at this point and as we know China and Russia are best friends when it comes to screwing "the west" over, so this is not surprising.

Interesting comment. I would certainly think information like this (if accurate) would have (or should have, IMO) a big role in the decision making process for consumers. To put it simply: “Do I want to purchase from a company that is supporting/contributing to Russias invasion of Ukraine”

So what changed? Is there info in this video which was included in the now unlisted video? You mentioned Aeroscope capturing location data on the drone, pilot and takeoff point. Isn't the takeoff point and the pilot assumed to be in the same location? I think the only GPS data the drone receives is from the drone itself. My understanding is the takeoff point is just the location where the first GPS lock was established. The pilot is assumed to be at this takeoff location. Thanks for another interesting video (though I haven't watched this version of the video yet).

Have you ever taken off and flown a drone following a car while being in the car? Takeoff and pilot locations aren't always the same 😃

@@MaxRovensky In reality the takeoff point and the pilot might not be in the same place but Aeroscope doesn't know this. The controller doesn't have GPS itself. The drone assumes the take off point and the pilot are in the same location. If the drone has a distance limit set, the drone will likely land if you drive too far from the take off point even though you're still close to the drone. "Have you ever taken off and flown a drone following a car while being in the car?" I've done with an old school RC airplane but I haven't done this with a DJI drone. Watch the latest Physics Girl to see an example of a moving pilot which causes a problem with a range limit. If you don't have a distance limit set, a moving pilot probably won't cause a problem but Aeroscope won't be broadcasting the changing pilot location.

They need the SDR, some transmit back to transmitter/base station what is only necessary. To force them to become more verbose, you can send a signal you know out or flood its specific frequency band forcing it to initiate a frequency hop exchange with the transmitter. I could get even more malicious if you wanted to an frequency chase it till the FC decides the best solution is failsafe or RTH,

That's basically what OcuSync is Using a lot of the shelf stuff and focusing on software allows them to roll stuff out faster and to a broader range of devices, which wasn't possible with Lightbridge

I recently talked to someone from dji and according to the information he got from his chinese colleagues the air unit/dji fpv system can also be tracked with aero scope. Super annoying as idk which digital alternative to use for my fpv..

Is there any knowledge about how the unit is linked to the dji database - if those users have access or not cause that is the scary part. Does anyone know about the prices which also will need updates for the newer and newest tech considering the iterations occusync went through till now with the O3 being released soon or at least with the avata system. Unfortunatelly you can not trust nor rely on dji regarding data privacy and protection, only the reliability and warranty are working quite well nowadays and the new products have overalll become a bit better at launch day even though still far away from good.

I’m wondering if it can remotely change the drone firmware etc… I doubt it works well though because of the same interference we get flying drones. It would be useful in wide open areas like arenas and airports most likely. In urban and rural wooded areas it’s probably shit.

Can’t imagine the FAA/govt/military needs this. I suspect they have technology to detect ALL aircraft; manned or not. I think remote I’d was an attempt to identify those without rid as more suspect. For example, in a cooperative world, 100 aircraft are detected. 87 have rid, the other 13 are watched more closely.

I understand the frustration with a device like this but don't act like the entire hobby isn't built around broadcasting data streams far and wide. It doesn't matter what equipment you run. A device can be made to track it. Even analog.

If people didn't already know DJI is a company you should not be supporting. The government doesn't even have to make rules like RID with companies like them. DJI has never been a friend of hobby users.

Drones will be like the new cell phones, in the way that they will be everywhere. They collect tons of data. That data can be fed into a very big computer. Who knows what the future holds, but I am sure that data will be used to predict things. Predicting 'things' is my feeble attempt at seeing into the future. But without knowing the future, I am sure that those A.I,s and supercomputers are hungry for all that data. What will be done with the data, I think even the people collecting it, and running the computers have not even fully recognized yet. But today is a race to the future, that is for sure.

So, whatever capabilities the aeroscope might have beyond tracking and recording (like hi jacking) this system will fail if you attack with 3 drones running on the same band like 5 Ghz cause this unit is only capable of dealing with 2 intruders and not 3 or 4. Then it would be any easy operation for any terrorists to get over it by 2 decoy dji attacks and with 3 rd break through drone carrying out the real mission cause these units are to expensive just to record only so they will offer a kind of hijacking or taking a drone out of the sky but the operator will get under pressure once he has to deal with an attack of a swarm. So bad product if it has such limit which has become now obvious. Buy 3 cheap mini 2 entry level drones as victims for decoy attacks and then bring the big boy through as the dam buster. I guess this will be an insufficient product so next question would be the connectivity of 2 of these and if those connected could defend against 4 or 5 drones intruding a protected area.

1) it can receive two transmissions at the same time, for collecting data you can switch which drone you are tracking. 2) Take over is implemented in the drone, it might be possible to take over multiple drones at once.

Chinese sent these devices and some Ukraine people were tracked and killed so Chinese Dji is responsible for Ukraine casualties too. Also when connected to the internet watch for traffic that sends it videos or strange data too

Dji are not selling products to military buyers. I guess it's possible to get some units here and there on the market, but it's simply not enough.

@@WanneSomeSoup Very early in the war, I was seeing some videos of people in Ukraine hacking the GPS system on some dji drones. That and some less tech-savvy people, just removing the parts of the drone that communicate with any receiver that will give away position.

@@Inertia888 I saw one with a thin graphite skirt fitted around it which would definitely block the glonass. I also saw a video taken by a Mavic of a Russian anti drone station dropping a mortar shell on an antenna that looked very similar to an array of the G16 shown in this video lmao

@@Inertia888 early on there were some likely propaganda videos leaked out by Russia showing DJI operators being targeted but I call bullshit on that. The videos were edited poorly.
