There is a LOT to learn with the camera setting no doubt. The 2.7K and white balance were the standouts for me. Time to play. Will be keeping this video for sure. And I have been in the business.
Thank you for your very clear tutorial. I am new to drone flying and have watched several instructional videos to start me off on the right track. This video has helped me the most so far. I look forward to watching others you’ve created.
Great vid. Clear, concise, warm and friendly - and refreshing to get a tutorial video that isn't entirely bells and whistles (coming from North America where we are saturated in bells and whistles content). Thanks for posting!
Flew my DJI Air 2S for the first time yesterday - love it but I feel utterly clueless at the moment, looking forward to the learning journey and watching my videos get better and better
Thank you so much mate..I am on vacation in New Smyrna Beach florida. I was flying my mavic air 2 before I watched your vid and I did exactly as you said and now my short videos are pictures are amazing now..thank you Ian for helping me.
Thanks Ian another very helpful video. Sadly I am very envious of the camera settings on the Air 2s if only the mini 2 had all of these adjustments it would be my perfect drone. 😔 Thanks for the heads up with photos and videos recovery software very useful. 👍👍
@@IaninLondon Used it twice last year on the Air 2 ,then realised that the pc likes to read from the aircraft and not remove the card, then last week i turned off the air 2 s whilst still filming Doh !!
Thanks for the helpful video. I've been learning to use my Air 2s camera at the same time as switching to Sony a7iii for my main camera, and its getting confusing on shoots when I use both.
Yes thanks I was looking for my settings noticed all the changes just wasn't sure how to access wish DJI would be more informative. Good surprise though thanks.
Why does everyone reviewing or talking about this drone dig into Normal and D-Log but ignore HLG?? What is it? I think it's also a 10-bit format but maybe with some HDR applied?? Is it better than Normal? Easier to use than Log? What is it?!?!
Hybrid Log-Gamma is a version of HDR colour recording that's useful if the video is being broadcast on TV where they may not handle normal HDR video. I'll be honest, I haven't used it and don't know much about why you would. I'll have a look into it....
When you go into pro mode and change the iso to 100, will it stay there when you switch back to auto? I notice in auto mode with the histogram on, it does not automatically correct for sunny conditions. I am trying to figure out an easy way for automatic settings to give me the best results. Thanks for the reply on my earlier comments.
Auto will amend the ISO and the exposure..... Maybe try Pro Mode, fix the ISO but amend the exposure / shutter speed to Auto (which you can do whist staying in Pro Mode)
Ian. I am not a photography expert so forgive me if I sound naive. I'm currently filming at 30fps. I'm using the rule of thumb of double shutter speed of 1/60. This then makes the whole scene overexposed and I am using a ND filter as sunglasses to get a normal exposure. However this causes blurry footage when panning. You might call that motion blur, but that's not my intention. I want to still keep shooting at 30fps. So what am I doing wrong and how can I fix this. Example link below. Thanks ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CH2fcpfhWiM.html
By filming at 1/60 second, you will introduce motion blur. If that's not your intention, then you need to film with a faster shutter speed, say 1/100 to 1/160 (and a weaker ND). When I looked at your footage and paused (say at 00:05), then the picture was crisp and sharp; the cars were very sharp; the houses in the background towards the left less so but still fairly sharp. So it may be that it's the video compression that makes it look blurred when, in fact, it's not. Hope this helps!
The EV adjustment seems to be missing from my screen in Pro mode, although it is showing in your video at 8:40. Any thoughts on if there's something basic I'm missing?
I thought the golden rule was Shutter Speed was twice frame rate? I tried shooting 30fps with 1/60 shutter speed and 100 ISO yesterday in manual mode and the screen was pretty white, unless i moved the shutter speed from 1/60 to around 1/2500 which to mean breaks the golden rule. I am not a photographer and am learning so be gentle with replies!!
Thanks for you videos - very informative. I have had some problems with my SD card. It has happened only twice but it can be very alarming. I will be filming for about 1 hour taking photos and videos. When I get home and try to look at them on my PC it will tell me that there are no images on the SD card and I have to format it to use it.! I can see the images on my cell phone since I cache to it but they are lower resolution. Any suggestions on how to prevent this problem? Thanks, Jack
It sounds to me like your SD card is not up to speed, so the drone will automatically switch to its internal memory. Plug your drone into a computer and turn the drone on and you should see all of your images as a standalone USB drive 👍🏻
Thanks, Ian and hello from across the pond. This was very useful. BTW in North America, we try to shoot at 24 frames at 1/50 for the blur cinelook. Some will use 30 for quicker movement and lower blur. Love your dogs. Have a great day! 😀
I read somewhere that when shooting a 360 raw pano with the Air2s you cannot adjust the ISO or shutter speed, can you confirm if this is true or not. If this is true that’s a shocker and a total downgrade from the Air1 🤷🏼♂️🥺 Thanks Ian.
1:20 That vucuum cleaner looks ripe for a review, but only if it flies !! Perhaps they'll be getting you to review 'paper clips' & 'Tooth Picks' next...😉👍
Fantastic Video Ian as always, and very informative, I just bought my dji air 2s a few days ago, so I'm looking forward to more of your videos, one question, have you tested out the pano feature in the 2s yet? I have yet to understand how to use this... keep up the fantastic work you do as it helps people like me in becoming better, kind regards, Paul from Scotland
@@IaninLondon I just got my air 2s and am looking forward to that demo. I tried but don't see where they are on the smart controller. Was just my first day using it though.
Understood some of that but not all. Will understand more when I go out in the field and start putting your advice into practice. Love your videos their great . Take care 🙂
I took 3 test videos today with the AIR 2S as still getting blurring sometimes. I normally shoot in 4K 30 FPS with my old Mavic Pro and my Phantom 3 Pro. All at 4K with ISO 100 and Shutter Speed of 1/800. 60 FPS definitely helped although still some jerking. First video 25 FPS, 2ND Video is 30 FPS and last one is 60 FPS. Just annoying i have to increase the FPS to a framerate i don’t really want. If the weathers ok tomorrow i will run the same experiment but at 2.7K. Any feedback appreciated. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-08h5w7cPXYI.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Fl6QwASnoqA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VcYUeJHdRJs.html
Hi Ian.. I've updated my Fly App again to 1.4.3 and the Auto Exposure Lock on Video for the Mini has disappeared! I know I'm doing it right because it works on photo (double tap the screen, get the yellow indicator to lock onto a part of the screen... and I knew how to do it after the 1.4.0 update with the yellow square on the video).. but it has definately disappeared properly this update :-( (Android, Samsung Galaxy S10, Mavic Mini 1)
Thanks buddy! Your videos are amazing learning tools for me, and I love your style of delivering the information. Your landscaped paradise is awesome as well, nice work!
No, they're very different and you also have AIrSpace restrictions in London too. This may help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_7_5GF182kQ.html
Just few mine for the first time today. A little shaky. Wondering how to download to my pc without taking the card out. Want the jpeg and raw. Still haven't figured out how to turn that damn music off when viewing my video on the smart controller.
You have to turn the drone on when you connect it via the USB C to your PC or laptop. I always remove the micro SD card and put it into a card reader.....
Hey Simon! Thanks a lot for your support and good words. There's a lot of effort in filming and editing so it's good to know it's appreciated. cheers, Ian
If you like the music and video, check this one out from my trip to Iceland last year 👍🏻 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j42aXHw2WXE.html
My videos on the Air 2S appear to be much wider than the photos. Is there a way to make the photos appear wider or get a wider field of view? I don't understand why video would be wider than photos.
HELP ME PLEASE? When i record i record at 23.98fps on my Air 2S when i put it into my editor Powerdirector 365 it has the video property at 23.00fps which ends up making my footage shaky/jerky. When i do the same thing with my Mini2 it does not do this the video is 23.98fps.... This is driving me crazy can someone help me please?
Hello Ian, you seem to know a lot about this drone. I have a question if you could answer it. I am continuously getting fuzzy photos. I’ve tried HDR 3 shot burst combining them in adobe. I tried auto focus and manual, I tried smart photos and regular. I have been doing photography for quite a few years and this has be puzzled.
If it's all images then you have an issue with the lens or the focussing. If it's clean, then the issue with focus. If tapping the subject on screen before taking the picture doesn't fix things you may need to open a chat with DJI.com/support.
Thanks for another great video. I have a question about the Air 2S that I wondered if you could help me with. I recently upgraded from the Mavic Air 2 to the A2S, and on my first flight I noticed that there is no HDR option in video settings. Because I almost always film during golden hour, HDR is something that I used quite often. I didn't realize that they had taken this away, and was curious if you knew what the reasoning for this was.
Hi Ian the new DJI Fly update 1.2.4 has a problem the option of charging you phone has been removed this will effect MAVIC Air 2 as well I just wanted to let you know this in case you want to talk about this on your Channel
You are with out doubt the best information source for drone video. This is the first time I have watched you. You added so much clarity to Mavic drone camera settings. The inclusion of the outcomes of changing each setting is most valuable. Thank you so much.
Only got the air2s yesterday so I know nothing , this will be really helpful as you explain things really well , thanks , will definitely be watching more from you
I just got the Air 2S in December after flying the Phantom 3 Professional for six years. One thing I’m noticing is my settings are not saving. If I go through the menu and set everything how I like it, the next time I go to fly it’s like the settings automatically went back to the default. Another thing I noticed is I like to shoot with D-Log turned on. Well when I switch over to Photo mode, it is taking regular normal photos and not D-Log. In video mode, D-Log seems to be working. Thoughts???
HI Chuck. The settings should definitely save. Perhaps completely uninstall the app, then reinstall. As for D-Log, it's only applicable to video; it's not an option for stills as you get much the same effect by using the raw files (so do make sure you have jpeg+raw set). Cheers, Ian
Ian, Excellent review of the Air 2 and Air 2S. I learn a lot from all of your videos!! Thank you for all of the hard work that you put into your videos.!!
Sorry forgot to ask have you ever had problems with up dates whilst flying any of your Drones, as so many people sometimes do, I always update when updates say to do so . And so far fingers crossed, I've never had problems in the last year and a half .
Awesome video. Just a quick question. If shooting in D log.. are u over exposing by 2 stops or exposing to the right on the histogram to get the maximum dynamic range.
Yes, you can click and drag on the screen; that moves the camera sideways. The rotor wheel top left of the remote is what moves the camera up and down.
I have always pronounced it I S O, not eye-so, but you're right of course, it's eye-so. But old habits die hard..... :) This is interesting: The acronym ISO stands for “International Organization for Standardization”. However, camera ISO does not directly refer to the organization that creates various technology and product standards. Ever since two film standards called ASA and DIN were combined into ISO standards in 1974 (later revised for both film and digital photography), they were referred to as one word “ISO” from that point on. Although ISO initially defined only film sensitivity, it was later adopted by digital camera manufacturers with the purpose of maintaining similar brightness levels as film.
As always very informative, one question you may or may not know the answer to, but does the air 2s actually have electronic image stabilization for shoot say 8 second long exposures? I read a random post that says it does but I can't seem to find any real info on the matter.
Is there a wheel on the controller to adjust shutter speed similar to the Mavic pro? Or do you have to use the slider with your finger to adjust shutter?
