We got our new DJI Air 3 right before our trip to Iceland and were able to put it to the test with it's 24mm and 3x 70mm lens! Absolutely breathtaking scenery. All of these clips were shot in the drone's HLG video mode.

WOW - I slowed down the vid to .25 - look at the footage from 11:56 - 11:58 - that gull did a close fly-by and banked left for a knife-edge pass; at 12:19 he was back for another pass - AWESOME!!!

I KNOW!!! My heart sank a little when I saw it on my screen haha. I was shooting on the 3x lens so the gull was further away I think but it made for amazing footage I thought! Thank you so much for watching!

Here are a few tips that I've learned along the way: Watch tons of travel videos. This is the best way to learn about different techniques and styles. Pay attention to the camera angles, lighting, editing, and pacing.Prepare your camera settings before your trip. This will save you time and frustration when you're out shooting. Decide what kind of shots you want to get and set your camera accordingly. Shoot smarter. Don't just point and shoot. Take the time to frame your shots carefully and think about the composition.Come up with a story. Your travel video should be more than just a collection of random shots. It should tell a story, whether it's about your personal journey or the history and culture of the places you visit. Diversify your shots. Don't just shoot static shots from the same angle. Get creative and try different things, such as using a drone, timelapse, or slow motion. Create motion. Your video should be visually engaging. Use camera movement to keep the viewer's attention. Export it properly. Ensure your video looks its best by exporting it in a high quality format. I hope that helps!

awesome. Im thorn between mavic 3 pro and air 3, but with this video, i think i will consider air 3. mavic 3 pro is too pricey. do you use nd filter in this awesome video?
@michaelandabbey
@michaelandabbey 6 месяцев назад
Yeah I LOVE the Air 3! I was blown away by the quality of it. I didn't' use an ND Filter because they wouldn't have arrived before we left for the trip. I'll say that I use them on the Air 2S and they are the DJI brand and I think they're great!

Beautiful video man! just a question - Why HLG? not DLOG?
@michaelandabbey
@michaelandabbey 7 месяцев назад
Thank you so much! Very much appreciated. Well, truthfully, I shot D-LOG or flat on my Mavic Pro, Mavic 2 Pro, and Air 2S. Then, one day, I accidentally left HLG on my Air 2S. When I went to put it in my Final Cut Pro, I realized how nice it was not to spend a lot of time grading it. It was also easier to get it to match my S-Cinetone than when shooting D-LOG. I can definitely spend more time getting it to match better, but after seeing how easy it was, I thought I'd just use HLG on the Air 3. Also, I got the drone like two or three days before I left for Iceland, so I didn't have a lot of time to test the settings before I left, so I was hopeful that the HLG would look good. I did shoot some D-LOG there too, and it was amazing, but I felt this was still pretty good.

Amazing - can you tell me what fps and what for flight program you used and what software to finish this incredible video ❤
@michaelandabbey
@michaelandabbey 7 месяцев назад
Thank you so much! I filmed this all in 4K60 and used HLG, and used a light grade in post. I slowed them all down to a 23.976 timeline so it was smooth. Everything else was on auto for the most part. Because I purchased the drone on launch day and it arrived three days before we left for our trip, I learned it all on the fly and didn't use ND filters because they never shipped, which is why I left everything on auto. I hope that helps!
@RonBoger
@RonBoger 7 месяцев назад
Beautiful footage. Did you slow the flight speed down in post or did you fly that slow and smooth? Also, is it harder to fly with the 70mm than the 24mm due to limited visuals on obstacles? I know the OA should steer you around the obstacles, but I saw a video saying not to fly when zoomed in. Just curious. Nice work.
@michaelandabbey
@michaelandabbey 7 месяцев назад
Thank you so much! Yes, I slowed down to 40% on a 23.976 timeline. I shot all of it in 4K60. I truly didn't find it harder to fly with the 70mm lens, once I got used to it. There were times when I thought a bird was WAY closer than it was, and that freaked me out, but other than that, the movements were pretty smooth. I used the cinematic mode to keep it very slow and smooth. As far as the OA, I wasn't close to obstacles with the 70mm lens, so I can't say firsthand, but I saw a video saying that it still works when zoomed in.

Hi. nice video. Did you get the permits to fly the drone nearby those waterfalls? (I'm not from Iceland. just curious since every place I visited in Iceland, almost always there was a sign "no drones" next to the entrances). Besides that, I was there on winter, so even if I wanted, it would be very hard to fly the drone without losing it because of the strong winds/gusts. Thank you very much.
@sdonesta
@sdonesta 7 месяцев назад
Also not sure. But the Air 3 colors seems to have a "lean" to magenta (not sure how to say that in English, but I think you will understand what I want to say).
@michaelandabbey
@michaelandabbey 7 месяцев назад
I can totally see that now that you pointed it out! So with the drone shots, I never flew past a point where the signs were, and that's why I was relying heavily on the 70mm zoom to be far enough back to not fly close to the waterfalls where the signs said "no drones." I only saw two spots where they said no drones, but I made sure to keep my distance and not cross the entrances with the signs. Obviously, I never flew in the national parks we went to, even when I saw others doing so. I was respectful of my surroundings and never hovered over anyone either. I had my drone labeled too. I feel like I followed the precautions and guidelines I found before leaving for Iceland.
@sdonesta
@sdonesta 7 месяцев назад
@@michaelandabbeyNice. I also flow my drone at the time I was there before the points. And the beaches are really great places to fly. But in my case almost every day the weather was very harsh and I didn't had many opportunities to take off. Well, loved your videos. Really really really! Thank you for sharing with us.

Few people have mentioned it but I have not seen a response, did you get/require special permission for these shots close to the waterfalls?
@michaelandabbey
@michaelandabbey 7 месяцев назад
Hey! I just saw the question a few hours ago and replied. I never flew past a point where the signs were, and that's why I was relying heavily on the 70mm zoom to be far enough back not to fly close to the waterfalls where the signs said "no drones." I only saw two spots where they said no drones, but I made sure to keep my distance and not cross the entrances with the signs. I guess from everything I read and the maps I checked, where I was flying was safe to fly-nothing like I'm flying in an NFZ. I feel like I followed the precautions and guidelines I found before leaving for Iceland.

When I flew my drone at waterfalls in Iceland, I was very careful to follow the regulations. I never flew past any signs that said "no drones," and I kept my distance from the waterfalls themselves. I also made sure to stay out of national parks, even though I saw other people flying their drones there. I was respectful of my surroundings and never hovered over anyone. I had my drone labeled too. I was using my zoom lens on the drone to get the best shots without crossing the lines.
