What do I think of the drone?
CAVEAT: I purposely didn't go into the negative aspects of the drone such as the January 2022 firmware updates for missing features. As I mention in the video, I am just interested in replacing the quality from my old DJI Inspire 1 drone and X5 RAW camera (even though I rarely shot RAW).
Therefore, I talk mostly about stills and video quality in the daytime and night. I talk about flight times and yes, that other camera (7x). I even throw in a couple of handy tips ; )
So...I was desperate to get my hands on the DJI Mavic 3 after seeing all the chatter online. I have learned to not listen or make "too much" of a judgement until I have tried it for myself. So how is it?
Well, hopefully the video will explain all this but here are some notes:
Night Video and Stills
When you see the first clip shot at 3200 ISO, don't despair of the noise. Wait until I show you the rest of the night footage and you will be blown away. I also compare the low light, night footage and stills with the Mavic Air 2s and the difference is night and day. Tick.
Flight Times
This is dependent on what you are filming and the general conditions with the weather. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how long it stays in the air. Tick.
Stills Photography
The M43 sensor and Hasselblad camera and lens are superb! The daytime images are sharp, clear and the colours perfect. The nighttime shots are incredible. I was getting sharp images from shutter speeds up to 3.2 seconds with ISO 100 and an aperture of around f4!
What more could you want!
Second Camera (Yes, that one)
To be honest and frank, anything other than the 7x native focal length of the secondary lens is all but useless. Good for scouting but for pro stills or video? Forget it. With that being said, I did manage to get 2 really quite good clips with the 7x, 162mm camera/lens set up.
It took a little work but I think the quality is good enough for showing on a standard computer screen, tablet or Smartphone. I was again, pleasantly surprised.
Would I Buy It?
You know what, I think I just might.
