I got an email from the dji website saying that the mavic air 2 was released and I immediately looked for a review and I am so glad that you made one already
When it comes to any photo or video gear, I really like watching Moment reviews, it’s not like other channels that do it for the 10 min. mark only. This reviews are really informative. Thanks moment team!
You’re welcome moment team! Just waiting for the quarantine laws to be lifted so that my aunt can bring the gear that I ordered from your shop. I’m from the Philippines 🇵🇭 by the way 😊 kinda expensive but I think it’s worth it. Can’t wait to make videos using the anamorphic lens 🤤
I congratulate you. You go to the point, talk fast but clear and don't try to be a clown to try and personalize your evaluation. Keep it brief, to the point and highlight the features and potential of the drone (and don't just show off your videos). You do that. Keep to it. You are the best!
I just bought the Mavic mini a couple of weeks ago, and today I saw they announced this. So I returned my Mavic mini to Best Buy a couple hours ago and told them it had gimbal issues. Cant wait to get my Mavic Air 2 now. lol
@@minglnie4801 when it first came out it wasn't. It really packed a punch for its price and size. Yeah the tech is outdated now, but isn't all tech? That's like saying the Samsung Galaxy s9 or the IPhone 10 is a kids toy.
I've seen many reviews of this drone on YT. But this one is the best. It really shows what it can do in the field, instead of just sitting behind a desk and doing a talking head while talking boring specs. Nice!
Hey! Thanks for the review. Just a few questions for you please: - How's the noise? I remember the mavic air 1 was horrible compared to the mavic pro 1... - Do you still have those issues where it asks you to calibrate the drone every time you take it out?
Saying "48MP is amazing, way better than any other drones in the DJI lineup" without any discussion of sensor size or image quality seems pretty deliberately deceitful or ignorant coming from a photography company... Other reviews of the actual image quality have said the 48MP mode is JPG only and the stills are way softer than 12MP DNG.
AWESOME VIDEO! Subscribed for sure! As well as sent to my buddies... So, I just purchased the Mavic 2 Zoom + Fly More Kit two weeks ago. I can still return it. I am curious if I should return the Zoom and purchase this Air 2? I am a backpacker / hiker and portability is huge for me... However, it's not like the Zoom is THAT big anyway. I am curious if you believe the air 2 is an UPGRADE to the Zoom even though its CHEAPER?! Would love your take.
Shane Moffo Well what did you end up doing? I had a chance on getting a used zoom with the fly more package, for the same price of the basic kit MA2. Ended up going with the MA2 due to the new hardware. Should be here in 2 days!
10:38 - 10:59 wow that 4K is jumpy! Look at the mountains behind. Is this frame dropping? Due to slow microSD? or 4K60 only? Or can it be fixed with a slow shutter + ND filter?
Even as a hobbyist flyer I don’t see getting rid of my Mavic Pro, but the Air 2 adds a lot of fun and at $799 it’s a game- changer. I can see using Rocket a lot, especially in the mountains. Thanks for pumping me up, brother. An old guy in Colorado.
Understand - as of 28 Apr 2020 - the ‘other flying things’ detect and warning feature has not made it into the Air 2 shipping into Europe. Apparently it will be added, later. The virus outbreak has affected production. (I saw this this morning on a BBC UK tech article) I’m interested to buy myself a drone, so found this review very informative. Loved the analysis, and particularly the comparison with upper and lower spec drones in the range from Mavic. ‘ND filter’ term might puzzle new viewers not into photography. It is a Neutral Density filter. Looks grey. Cuts the light entering the camera lens by a fixed amount, and you can buy different ND filters, cutting the light by different amounts. So what? You would use one in very bright conditions - particularly as this review mentions the lens aperture (size of the hole in the lens on the drone’s camera) cannot be changed for this drone model. This will increase the camera’s exposure time, which can improve how a movement in a scene looks. Right ... off to look at the Mavic Mini and Pro reviews ...
Looks like an epic upgrade from the Mavic Air - which I've been using on the road since it launched! Stoked to get some epic slow mo aerial footage on my adventures 🎉
It has 4k 60 fps and 34 mins flying time, which are even better than the much more expensive and bigger Mavic 2 Pro. From my point of view, this is the best DJI drone for average people like me.
Thanks for this video! I was so on the fence with this and the pro. I'm a professional photographer on a budget, but really wanted the ability to adjust the aperture. Knowing that the camera on the Air 2 can accept ND and CPL filters, I'll be buying the Air 2 with the confidence it'll give me what I'm looking for. I love taking landscapes around Kentucky, and am really looking forward to seeing a new dimension in my photo & video work with the use of a drone.
Great review - the auto exposure really bugged me tho... Things you left out that are important: 1 - obstacle avoidance 2 - Adjusting exposure. Is manual available? Are there adjustment wheels? 3 - Can you adjust yaw speed for more cinematic moves?
@@marcanthonystorm can I ask u another question ? Because I dont know where you are...are you allowed to fly this anywhere in canada or America? I travel to both countries back and forth...
You need to upload in 60 fps, the video looks choppy when you have a fast-moving drone/target. 24 fps is more cinematic but only for slower shots. 5:39 may have been taken in 4K 60fps but you uploaded it in 30 or 24.
I’m so stoked about my Mavic Air 2 coming soon. I live in Colorado and I can’t wait to get this drone up in the air along the Rocky Mountains. Great review🚁😎👍👍
I am looking into buying my first drone. I have a channel about Space and Rockets and a few very interesting trips coming up and so the review helped me very much. Thank you for the awesome job and your color grading is hands down absolutely awesome. How do you achieve such great colors in your camera footage?
Pretty cool product. I still think I prefer the Mavic 2 Pro but really good value for sure and the range is insane!! Plus the new controller looks nice. Can't wait to see what they come up with for the Mavic 3 Pro :).
I’ve had a mavic air 1 for about a year now, and while I am a little jealous, the prop noise can be fixed with some replacements, and battery life has never really been an issue. The one thing that does bug me however is the range. I’ve gotten my mavic air to 4 miles but it was rough.
Hi! Thank you for this great first test! Actually, I have one important concern about this new Mavic Air 2, which is about Active Track function. I got the Mavic Air 1 and I have tried a few times to use it while skiing and use the Active Track function. The problem is that the active track does not want to follow you down, and the drone is staying at the same altitude, which is as the end completely useless. So my question is, will this new drone and this new Active Track 3.0 be improved to finally make the job while using it with Active Track on an activity where the subject is changing its level up or down ?! I have not seen that in your video, since you were using the active track but moving on a flat ground. This big improvment would actually surely makes me go for this new drone! Thanks for your reply!
While the Active track is not near perfect yet, it is much better that the Air 1. It locks onto your subject much better and it keeps it in shot much better, and with APAS 3.0 it avoids obstacles much better. Still, I would not completely rely on the Active Track and sensors
Wow I am using mavic air from the last one year and I am quite satisfied except the battery timing but mavic air 2 looks absolutely fantastic with upgraded features like battery timing,48 megapixel camera and the flight range👍
I've been flying a holy stone hs700 for a couple years now, modified with a GoPro in the works. But there's one thing I've really missed, a gimbal. Also apparently the mavic air 2 has some kickass obstacle detection and avoidance system. Being in an area that's congested with trees, I have a feeling something like that will worth the money. and the $933 fly more package actually makes it well worth it seeing the price of the individual batteries. The price seems right, I'm strongly thinking about it. This video certainly will help in my purchasing decision!
I'm in love! I've been thinking about buying the Mini as my first drone since it came out but I do think the extra cost for this one is totally worth it. The footage at 5:39 looked a bit choppy, is that because of high shutter rate to keep exposure down or something else?
The Mavic Mini actually is much better than when it first came out. It now has manual aperture controls and white balance with the last two updates and throw an ND filter on there and it looks pretty damn good. I use the hell out of mine. I use it for indoor overhead shots because of it size.
@@BrandonTalbot Yeah I saw that like 30 minutes after writing my comment! Thats an awesome addition to the value of the Mini. Somewhat strange this (Air 2) doesn't have manual shutter but if the Mini got it, maybe this will one day too :)
in the middle of nowhere with an orange stool... Thank you for your time & review.. making me think about which drone(s) best fit my needs. Not mentioned here but I heard the smart controller from the Mavic 2 pro can also be used on the new Mavic Air 2.. which is awesome... Love the location you're in... Looks like an Ancient ruin....
Is this all new footage from the Mavic Air 2? Couldn't help but notice the Mavic 2 Pro cameo at 11:07 (side sensors & huge hasselblad silver gimble)..... so hence the question.
I own a Mavic Air and a Mavic 2 Pro and I really like them both (The Mavic Air is a bit too loud but...). Both will work with my Crystal Sky monitor. Will the Mavic Air 2 work with it as well?
Great review. Very thoughtful presentation. You are very thorough in your comments without being tedious. If I can offer some constructive criticism though it would be to refrain from using the phrase "I'm not going to lie" so often. It makes you sound guilty. Cheers man! Loved it. Can't wait for my Mavic Air 2 to arrive!
can you tell me if the drone during the active track mode follow you even if you're going downhill for example when you're skiing? the last mavic had the problem that the drone was staying all the time at the initial altitude and didn't follow the subject that was decreasing his elevation, the drone followed the subject only in the case he increase the elevation. Does mavic air 2 overcome this problem?? Thank a lot
While I do own (& love) a Spark I have also looked at numerous reviews of the MAvic Air because I think that is my ultimate drone. Im not a pro and I am not taking anything big as a MAvic Pro on vacation. Among all the Mavic Air reviews Ive seen only 2 things came up as complaints 1) the noise from the propellers 2) enhanced wifi only...coming from the Spark I told myself never to buy another drone unless they put Ocusync in a Mavic Air form factor...and here it is.
Should I sell my mavic air and upgrade to this or is it not that big of an upgrade? I like the idea of having occusync!!!! with added bonus of 48mp photos + 8k hyper lapse. Just wondering upon your opinion
Very neat review video! I bring my drone in a backpack on motorcycle shoots so compact size is important to me. My DJI Spark lacks 4K, D-Cinelike and foldable wings. Now I'm buying the Mavic Air 2! Thank you for this! Subscribed!
I'm upgrading to the Air 2 from the original Phantom 1 with the DSLRPro upgrades (Futaba, ZenMuse, etc) amazing to see where things have come in the 7 years I've had the original P1.
@@JonSmith-fc2mm I still think he used High shutter speed like 1/8000 or so, when he should have 1/48 ( in conjuction with 24 fps video ) to make the video "smoother" (Hight shutter speed = less blur, lower shutter speed = more blur) But i could be wrong :)
I think it's actually from all the different framerates mixed within the video. It's typically referred to as "Fame Interpolation" and this is something that has to be addressed in whatever software you're using for editing the video and is something that seems to be often missed. For example if you take a 24FPS video and turn it into a 30FPS video, without proper frame interpolation it's going to be choppy because now the frames don't match up
Also, if you're from the EU- this is a way better choice compared to the 2 Pro because of its weight. Once those new EU-wide rules hit in summer of this year, owners of a 2 Pro will get slightly screwed because it weighs more than 900g, which means that you have to get a drone license for using it. You won't have too much trouble with the Air 2 though~
No word on obstacle avoidance sensors, if any. Also, you've made it sound like the absence of aperture priority is a some kind of limitation of the app. AP depends on the camera lens design.
Looks like time to upgrade from my original Mavic Pro! Could not justify the Mavic 2 Pro upgrade. Question. With the lighter drones, are they more affected by wind?
Great review, thank you! Question here - is it me or does the video skip instead of playing smoothly? I mean it plays smoothly but skips at the same time, hard to explain. It 'skips smoothly'. I can see that only in drone shots in your video. With camera shots, this is not present.
as a photographer i have the mini because its awesome and small but this doesnt look much bigger. but the image quality is ideal for me and the tracking features and the fact it wont hit things i am upgrading
Bro! I loved this video. Your video solidified my decision on getting this drone. Question do you have the Part 107 registration with the FAA? Enjoyed the spec talk! Just to be sure this has collision avoidance? Does it have built in lighting for dusk or evening shots?
Great job on your video. I have the Mavic mini and absolutely love it for an entry-level drone. I do some real estate sales so I think the Mavic air 2 will be a nice upgrade for me. But I guess you do have to register it when in comparison the Mavic mini does not have to be registered.
Awesome video...wonder if Starlink Satellites will cause any issues with drones ? Have a week old Mavic Mini and hope to move up once the mini is figured out to the big sisters.✌
