DJI Mavic Mini Quickshot Tutorial (Dronie, Helix, Circle, Rocket) 

The most clear, in-depth-yet concise-explanation of Quickshot mode which i have found. Is also free of the relentless self-promotion, self-adulation and random bullshit common on YT vids So, yes, i did subscribe-as am just starting out with drones Good job!

It is worth noting that while shooting any of the quickshots you have the option of canceling the action by pressing on the button on the screen that will be showing a red circle with an X or by pressing the button on top left of the controller. This could be useful if you find yourself in a situation where your drone is about to collide with something and you need to abort. When the action is cancelled the mini will stop where it is an hover in place, allowing you to recover and then fly manually or use return to home.

I tried this for my first time today with my new Mavic Mini. Thank you so much for making this video, now I’m ready to make great videography for my travel vlog on RU-vid!

This was so useful, thank you! I'm a new flier, just bought the mavic mini and I'm figuring everything out, I tried the rocket move without knowing quickshot was in the software. Amazing tech, and a really clear tutorial.

If you play the video in reverse it in effect gives you 4 additional quickshots. I used "rocket" with a mural on the side of a building. When played in reverse, it gives a dramatic reveal at the end of the video.

I just got the Mini as my 1st drone. I plan on using it to help share my photography adventures. I really like the idea of quick shots as I can then act ‘naturally’ while it takes the shots. It does seem that more quick shots can be added even without obstacle avoidance. A few things I would like to see 1) being able to select FPS 2) more height options as you mentioned 3) recording on the way back, especially for something like the rocket 4) plus manual control of the video settings.

I would bet that additional features such as additional Quickshots will be added in time. After all, even the Mavic 2 was missing features compared to the Air and M1, the most common one missed being Precision Landing (I don't expect MM to get that one, just an example), but in time many of them were added in.

I appreciate this video for teaching me how to use these features. I personally feel these features are excellent for someone who is new to not just flying a drone but filming in general.

Thanks, Billy! Quick question: Will the Mini follow you if it is set on circle or helix? Example: I want to ride a bike and have the Mini circle me while riding. Will it follow me or simply circle around the spot where I was when I first set the circle command?

I just got the Mavic Mini after watching your videos. I set mine up using your recommended settings. When trying quickshots , the drawing a green box around the subject never worked. The + would not always appear on the screen and when I would draw a box around the subject it would never take. I did enjoy my first flight though. It was extremely windy but I wanted to see how it would handle it. Although the drone was visibly being effected by the wind, the gimbal kept the camera rock steady.

I guess the reason for the limitations imposed on the Mavic Mini Quickshots is that the drone is really intended for the complete novice / recreational flyer as opposed to the professional videographer. They provide a simple, easy-to-use introduction to the capabilities of video shooting with a drone and will lead the flyer to eventually have the courage to perform the same shots themselves - OR (like me) lead them to the Mavic 2 Pro!!!!

Good overview, thanks! A good thing to know is when it when it starts and stops recording. I find it unfortunate that it stops recording prematurely. The question remains... If you start recording beforehand, does it leave the recording going throughout the entire flight until you stop it?

I would say that the reason they limited the distance on all the quick shots on this mini was because the drone was released for new comers and everything about this drone is done to protect the drone from newbie mistakes.. like setting the quick shots to far and smashing into the side of a building.. Dji could easily add 4 more quickshots mode by enabling the reverse quickshots mode. Just imagine reverse rocket quickshots.

I just got one of these and honestly, I thought that Quick Shots were only on the Mini 2. So this was a welcome video! Subbed.

Yeesh that 120’ limit is really weak and yes rocket quick shot should Def be done manually as is so easy to just position ourselves in the middle and push straight up 400-500’ Any suggests on good way to hide remote when do circle capture? I’ve been looking to sell my Phantom 3 and get the Mini but will prob wait until they raise these limits as my skills still not that solid to pull more complex shots off myself

While the quick shots were taking place, can the subject move around or walk forward? Will the drone keeps its subject to the centre or the screen?

The rocket height is above the starting height, so you can go higher than 120 feet if you start higher.

Billy, do you think we’ll get more intelligent flight modes added by firmware updates? Sphere, panorama or maybe asteroid?

Will the Mavic Air do these tricks? Also, when doing the circular motion can you walk while it's tracking you?

Just recently bought the Mavic Mini on a black friday deal. - I also didn't like that they don't record on the return flight. - On my second recording, I also noticed a huge compression and for some reason, it played smooth for a 3 seconds then in fast motion. In the DJI fly app, within the App Album, the thumbnail shows a 17sec video but playing it is only 11 seconds. - Another annoying aspect is showing the DJI logo at the end of each video. Can this be turned off or do I just have to edit it out? Considering how 'old' the Mavic Mini is and because I have the exact same ones as you mention in the 2 year old video, I doubt we will see extra features on video recording, like setting extra seconds before and after a Quckshot, being able to record on return flight for each Quickshot, possibly one more distance setting at maybe 150ft and maybe setting the video compression rate. But seriously, WHY this does not record on the return flight seems like a huge oversight...or possibly how the differentiate later products when you run out of "OMG the new XXXX feature is so cool." Just as an FYI, as I know the compatibility list is short when it comes to the huge variety of Android phones but it worked fine on the Moto G Stylus 2021 version with Android 10(even though 11 is now available, I'm not a big fan of upgrades when all functions work and the phone is quick/smooth).

I can´t acess the quick shot menu on my MINI SE. Do you happen to know why? Is it because I don´t have a memory card yet? Is it because this model does not have it? Is it because Im not flying at the moment at 2m high? I downloaded DJI FLY APP from apple store on my iphone.

My Dji Mavic Mini Won't Connect with Phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy A20, 64Bit, Usb debugging Enabled, Android 10, Dji Latest App. And I just bought a Mavic Mini and I haven't been able to connect it's Remote Via Type C cable to My phone. Sometimes my phone recognises it as Charging? I tested out it with my friend's Apple Iphone, Works fine, Connects. But my android Doesn't. Should I buy an Expensive Apple Iphone? 🥺😥😢

Did you know, you can select return to home and once the mini starts returning you still have yaw control? So you point the drone in any direction and it still flies the return to home path , sort of like a headless mode , I’ve found this useful a few times.

Are you able to cancel the quickshot if it moves too fast and looks like it might hit something?

One thing you didn't mention, after the initial launch the drone hovers a few feet off the ground but is facing away from you, do you have to turn it to face you for a quick shot or does it do it automatically?

Would the drone be able to follow you if you're walking or running while performing these quick shots?

Great demo as usual Billy. Hey, Got my Mavic Mini the other day. Wow so happy. Quickly dissolved. Needs android 6.0 or higher in order to install the app. Great my LG phone is 6.0, downloaded the app, unable to install it as it keeps saying incompatible with my phone. I just threw away a little over $600 dollars Canadian. Anyone like a cute little Mavic combo paper weight?

When I frame my subject (regardless of the Quickshot mode on my Mavic mini) and press start, the count stops at 3. Nothing happens and the subject frame is removed. So I can't get the Quickshot to work.

I thought I was the only one having these problems, I found out to enable quick shots drone and controller must be connected, and drone in air.

While taking Quick Shot if during the shot it appears that drone will hit something do user have the control to manually stop or change drone movement?

For some reason my never wants to do it because it says the GPS signal is weak when the GPS It’s actually moderately strong.

Great review very helpful. Help, I am new to droning and just received my Mini. I am planning to use this for my real photography. To test the quick shots I went to a location and was able to use my car as the subject which worked fine. I then tried to use a house as a subject and it would not let me lock into it. I don’t want to be in the shot. Do you know of a work around to this problem? Thanks in advance.

I get the green square and the START button. When I press START..It counts down but the drone just stays in place in the air. Nothing happens. Any ideas

Nice video, helped a lot! I think that the distance is limited to 120ft because of how light it is? I flew it today quite high and I nearly messed my pants. It was swaying all over the place because of the wind was too strong. There isn't even a breeze today :O I agree though, after some distant fly hours its much better to manual control certain quickshots.

I have tried today my new mavic mini and noticed that i dont have this drone direction pointer in the bottom middle on the screen, only red radius and no pointer :( did someone know is this normal?

If you circle, but the subject is walking, will the drone adjust and continue to circle?

you should do video on the hidden features of this drone. like being able to turn when in returm home mode as well as being able to ascend, descend and control speed. and maybe other features that i havent discoverd yet, lol

Drones are costly I bought mini se after saving money for almost a year. Now I will try these moves. And I will try to become a pro pilot and I will fly my drone from Toronto to Montreal. 🤪😝

Couple questions: I just got my Mini and it is my first drone. While flying around my home in suburban Philadelphia (30 miles out) it keeps telling me I have reached maximum flying distance of 324 feet. I have the max distance set at 10k ft and max altitude set at 396 ft. Any ideas? Geofencing maybe? Also on the quick shots when the shot completes it stops recording. Is it possible to start recording back up so you can record the drone returning towards the subject? Like a reverse droney?

Do you know if the subject of the circle function can be larger like a car or a house/ tree safely?

What app do I have to use to have these features? They're not in the app the Mavic Mini instructions had me download.

For me 2.7k is enough for what I want, 249gr is great, over 25 minutes of flight time and the price is on the spot of what I wanted to spend on a new drone. The decision was a no brainer and I bought the Combo.

Is anyone else having problems using QuickShots? I’ve updated the drone, the batteries and deleted/reinstalled the app and I still don’t have the extra options for QuickShots. I just have record and camera options.

Do you think the mini will have active track in the future? Is that something an update can give it. Or it’s just not built with the needed active track internals?

Circle never works for me, it’s never lost track of the target but does anything but a circle, more like a sharp oval going right over the target and then coming back to you

Have you had any issues with the update killing the battery in the drone ? I got mine the otherday and after update it says battery cell error and wont charge or take off . Havent got to fly it yet 🤬
