Hey...good to see that you are sharing. I for one find it interesting to see and hear personal flying experiences. Keep it up. As you post more your production skills will increase. I hope to see more. Happy flying. I'm yet to get mine.
This was like an ad supporting reasons to regulate this hobby. Over people, roads, buildings, beyond sight, loss of control, dead batteries...wow you almost got them all. Congratulations1
A quick rule of thumb is if you think you ever need to use RTH your flying further away than you should be, RTH should be a complete redundancy mode for if you lose connection. I know you soon lost your phone but the way id bring it back home in an emergency if you know your higher than everything. Blow the map up full screen and click the switch on the right up into sports mode. it has a line straight back to home point. rotate to that and fly straight down the line full speed. this thing hurtles and will cope with really strong winds. Then when its close with visual range drop it back into regular mode and bring it home.
STL Drone pilot here too...if you want, a buddy of mine fly our phantoms in the area all the time. You are welcome to join us if you want. Looks like you have some basics we can help you on, and school you a bit on some rules you might be missing (700 ft too high, are you near the airport? If you are, then you might not be able to fly even 400 ft...etc...). Lemme know what you think! Anyway, a great start with the Mavic, and great save! Check out my vid on the disconnect, I had a similar issue!
sorry did not mean to be so critical i am retired living in Caribbean i spent the first 100 hrs flying in a big field doing circles, 8's, squares. etc until i was NEVER disoriented i only have one Mavic battery so i fly one flt per day then i fly my P4 and Autel have fun PRACTICE
again my apology. I was too critical. Listen, what I did when I started in June works for me. I was an Airline Captain for 28 years, yet when I started flying these silly drones I was terrified I would crash ! I had a real hard time projecting myself INTO the drone. So I went to a large field (the only one here on the small island where I live) and started slow, never above 20', always close to me. Then 400' cap is the FAA law, but of course people do go above it. Just remember airplanes can come down to 500' ! YIKEES ! I think if drones had a nose and tail it would be easier for people ! I like to practice flying a figure-8 pattern rotating the drone 180 degrees during the figure-8, keeps your mind sharp ! Have Fun Happy Thanksgiving
7-800' altitude...? Anything above 400' AGL or above structure is illegal. Not sure if I'd mention that online in case the fun police are watching. Part of your problem is the winds up there are MUCH faster than around the ground.
unfortunately they are from a stock site. I would love to have some great music but i can't create. If you know of any links or sources for music, let me know!
corey magin I don't think so. It's been operating fine ever since. I had it in the wrong mode, not beginner, but not sport. So it was moving too slow against the wind at too high of an altitude. Gimbal has been fine since then.
you don't want to be in sport mode ..in sport mode your optical avoidance is turn off.. regular mode should be fast enough for what you are doing... I bet when you said you were going so slow your were in tri pod mode..
