Biggest issue: If you are a solo shooter shooting 2 talents or 1 = DJI you have to swipe up twice on the receiver controller to get both recorders to start and do the same for them to stop. Rode : You press one button on the receiver and both backup mics start to record and stop with one simple press. Rode sounds better but If you have the DJI Pocket 3 there is not option. The DJI is the only way to go. The ease of use with the DJI is just easier and get great audio. If you are doing a two person interview with a lighting setup, hair light and background lights. Get the Rode.

Did you perhaps tried to use the Rode Lavalier II that was included with the Rode Pro on the DJI 2? I am interested to know if there would be a difference and if, how much of a difference. I like everything about the Dji 2, however I would very much rather go for the “broadcast” audio of the Rode.

One thing I think you missed is that the RODE Wireless Pro also includes TimeCodes which are a big deal for some customers but I agree with you in that I LOVE RODE products but went with the DJI Mic 2 system. I like the smaller form factor and the total control with the Receiver unit. Also I don't believe the RODE system supports Bluetooth so no connecting it wirelessly to my Pocket 3 like I can with the Mic 2.

Thank you for this video! I’d like to ask you a question, because I’m not sure if I have got it correctly. So, are there two options to use the DJI mic 2 with Osmo action 4? Either with reciever connected to camera or directly without reciever with Bluetooth ?

Action 4 uses Bluetooth and can connect to dji mic 2. You just need the mic. If that fails you can always record onboard. So you can sync in post.

I’m super happy with my OP3 and Mic 2, but I have to admit that even on the loudspeakers of my iPhone, the sound quality of the Rode beats the DJI hands down. Great review!

I have to thank you for these reviews. I've ended up moving to the DJI mic 2 and the Osmo Pocket 3 for my travel videos. I still use the GoPro Hero 12 for underwater and action with the mod lens 2.0. I'll be awaiting your comparison videos when the Action 5 and Hero 13 come out later this year.

When you connect the USB cable to the Rode do you have all of the options to adjust or is it only certain ones?

When you connect to the Rode Connect app via the cable, I believe it lets you tweak most of not all settings. There are a few settings you can change on the receiver without connecting to the app.

I think Rode is quite stylish, even being slightly bigger. DJI turned into a transparent little toy with some bold white paint on cheap plastic! The sound is definitely reacher on Rode Pro. I like Rode better, even if DJI is amazing with its noise cancellation... Great info comparision! Well done! Pro style! Rode Pro for sure...

Great video. I've also tried both of these but had to choose the DJI over the Rode because the wireless connectivity with my Pocket 3 is just too useful! Outside of that I definitely preferred the Rode, and 100% agree with the Rode charging case being better for fitting in a 'real' setup.. I basically end up not using the DJI charging case!

Great review glad you turned off the low cut filter, it makes dji sounds bad. I prefer the DJI its easier to use, smaller form factor, and better compatibility with pocket and action cameras. The Rode has slightly better internal mic and includes lavs but even though the lavs sound good they fall off the clip easy and the locking ring is designed poorly making it easy to not lock if you're not careful. Both systems will do the job but DJI has all these small advantages that add up.

i think you have the best and most detailed comparison. To be honest, on laptop speakers I do NOT hear any difference. I think for most casual users 8GB internal is enough, I would go with DJI because its $50 less and has noise cancellation. NC in post editing always muffles the audio around and sometimes in sound weird so I would prefer a system that has NC built in.

We use DJI because of the simplicity of transferring the recorded audio. No need for an additional app like Rode. Just plug it into my laptop and it is ready to drag onto the computer. Great review.

Great review! Wireless connectivity with the Pocket 3 is a no-brainer. I choose DJI. Although Røde's sound is better, but not on all occasions.

Both wireless mic systems seem really good for anyone who is trying to record clean audio in the field.You couldn't go wrong with either one. And like you, I prefer the DJI Mic 2, it's a little more user friendly and I like the form factor. Great review, and thanks for sharing.

After multiple firmware updates the DJI Mic2 still refuses to connect to my GoPro Hero12. I'm done. Switching my whole ecosystem to DJI Pocket3 and Action4.

I have watched bunch of your videos today and checked out discover. Looks like this is the one that pays the bills. How do you afford all the tech gear, do you amazon return or do you have mega GAS. I had the original rode since it came out, now with the mic 2, the only problem is when i use it what my go pro, if i want to use the 32 bit recording, syncing each clip to the 20 min DJI recording is a pain the reason i bought the action 4 is becuase when linked, it starts and stops the mic recording on the device, making multi camera sync in PP much easier, one click and all cameras and audio are synced in a multicam sequence. With the go pro i have to sync the cut the audios from the big clip first. I always put my mic inside my shirt, but i put a black label over the DJI logo on the front, i have one marked for me and the other for my wife as we use them at the same time a lot. I wish the DJI case would allow the dead cats attached. DJI came out with a sony hot shoe adapter to skip the cable. I really prefer the 32 bit float audio, i sync it every time. Bit its a pain. I use the PP audio enhance at 5.0 and it makes my voice much better on the DJI. Larry

I have the OG dji mics and love them. The rode Def sounded better than the 2's but if I didn't already have the OG dji's I would choose the mic 2.

And the DJI has the option for a pearl-coloured (whiteish) version of the transmitter - works better for bridal dresses if that's your thing. And a small piece of black tape (or a sharpie) can fix the advertising issue...

Ah yes, I did forget to mention the white transmitter option for the DJI Mic 2. You could definitely add some gaff tape to cover up the logos, but that doesn't look too nice either if you were to zoom into it. I've seen some folks get creative with stickers to cover up the logos.

Rode Wireless definitely sounds better; somehow more natural-sounding when compared side by side. BUT the key point between the two is simply put PRACTICALITY. Yes, Rode does sounds better than Mic 2 but you'll most likely only notice that when you compare them 2 like this but direct bluetooth connection and the overall ease of use are more than sufficient to make people go for the Mic 2 I guess. Excellent review.

Shure Movemic is also bluetooth for 349.00 without a receiver and is the only transmitter that can bluetooth 2 mics at once. Just saying because I'm a DJI mic man myself!

The MoveMic is indeed a newer option - just came out in March 2024. Although I haven’t tested it, 2 things concern me: the price is overall a lot higher, and it doesn’t allow for internal recording to transmitters like the DJI does. Other than that, looks like a nice option.

@@Gemini_Connect it does come in a one mic option but has to have the case to charge it for 249.00 but it is the smallest by far and gives up a lot of features but it is made by an industry lead in mic, but is that enough to support the price range have to get one to just check it out.

The rode mic sounds less muffled than the dji mic. But with the lav mics they both sound muffled

I owned both of these mics - Basically rode is another level of sound and hold timecode no shifting audio. DJI 2 is king in conectivity. I much more prefer better sound all day long because rode is not terrible in conectivity just not as good as DJI 2.

I think the Rode sounds significantly better both with and without Lav mics. However I think the design of the receiver of the DJI is best, in terms of display position (back/front vs top) and the access to all features, rather than the app. The DJI case not accepting the transmitters with furries attached will be a pain - however the attachment method is better. I am totally divided on the best choice!!!

I have the DJI system but it is defective, i bought the Pocket 3 combo with one mic2 and then bought the second with the charging case and receiver to use with my Mini 4 pro drone. I have spent the past week trying to get DJI to replace the defective gear to no avail, perhaps you could consider aftercare and customer service as an important factor in reviews, my Mic 2 is useless to me at the moment, do Rode treat their customers better i wonder?

I have a DJI Mic 2 and a Rode Go 2. I like the Go 2 a little better as it sounds slightly 'crisper'. But I like the DJI mic 2's smaller size. I use the Rode Go 2 for my Sony a7C and Insta360 X3, and the DJI Mic 2 for my Pocket 3.
