I just picked up the DJI Mic 2 and while I think the Rode's internal mic sounds better than the DJI's, I think the DJI Mic 2 + the DJI Lav Mic is the perfect combo. The Lav mic makes it sound so much better and the ease of use and features on the DJI made me choose it over the Rode. I also really like how you don't need a receiver for the DJI Mic when using it with a DJI Osmo Action 4, that is game changer for me.

Thank you for your presentation. I have the Rode, but I do agree with you that DJI version of handling is much better.

I’m really trying to see which mic quality is better. The Rode has more bass which initially sounds better. But as I’m listening throughout this video, there’s better inflections in your voice with the DJI. I wonder if the Rode’s heavy bass is drowning out some of the details

DJI has DEFAULT LOW CUT FILTER on, did you turn it off before the test? because the sound seems quite different compared to the rode in fact there is minimal difference between the two...

Great comparison mate, lean to DJI, have the first gen and really happy with those, will add the new ones to the camera back, love that I can record directly into the transmitter so for doing stuff with 4 people it’s pretty cool. Have a great day, cheers 🙏🏻

its intersting point you made about "Not using an full frame anymore because smartphones and action cams are so good". its so true. I've been a camera geek for 10 years, and there was definitly a time when "real cameras" just looked so much better than smartphones. They still do, but the improved image quality isn't worth it in my opinion, unless you doing pro-work stuff. I think Sony ZV-E1 is probably my last full frame camera.

I was thinking the same thing. I already have the rode system, but I have one the transmitters because I got the creator combo for the new osmo pocket. I am thinking about getting the rest of the set. I will just have two wireless mic sets.

Why don’t you just connect your wireless Pro to your pocket 3? Yes, you’ll need to use the receive.

I bought the original wireless go. The only thing was the dead cat didn’t stay on, so I bought the Wireless Go 2. I never did use the second transmitter, so I think it’s a big waste of money to buy a two transmitter system if you never use the second transmitter. I don’t know if Rode sells the new Pro with just one transmitter. Today I mainly use the original wireless go one with a lav mic. I rarely use the Wireless Go 2. Too much stuff to carry. If I need 32 bit float, I use my Zoom F2-BT, and sync in Davinci. I really don’t care how far these mics transmit, since Im mainly behind the camera, or a few feet in front of it. I recently got the Pocket 3 with the DJI mic which works great, I don’t need the receiver or the extra mic, so I won’t be upgrading that system. These wireless mics work better with a good lav mic, instead of clipping a big square box to your shirt.

I think that some of the DJI Mic 2 advantages are diminished by requiring a few extra steps in post... the sound output would require some editing to my taste... the time code drift is a major one for me. I would employ the Rode Wireless Pro for more critical work.

Great video! I would say bang for the buck Rode is the better deal with 2 included great low profile lavalier mics with a screw type lock mechanism. DJI will set you back $40 per plus they seem a bit cheap looking and a noticeably bigger profile than Rode. Also, as noted on several other RU-vid channels sound quality between the two DJI kit mics can be inconsistent. DJI is a decent kit to own if you have the Pocket 3 or Osmo Action 4 (latest firmware update) that allow for a dual mic connection without the receiver as I own both cameras. However, for more serious work I will stick with Rode Wireless Pro and my old Hollyland Lark 150 kit.

Nah, a mirrorless smashes those little cams my dude. With the majority of RU-vidr watching on tv, it makes a big difference
@GrayGhostDog1
@GrayGhostDog1 3 месяца назад
I have to agree with the OP on that topic. Using a mirrorless camera for vlogging is a complete waste, IMHO. I tend to use the right tools for the job... right now, the Osmo Pocket 3 would be the tool I would recommend for vlogging duties.

@@GrayGhostDog1 it doesn’t stack up to a full frame when blown up and RU-vid is 49% tv viewership now, but do you
@TheEverythingMan
@TheEverythingMan 3 месяца назад
I actually have to push back on this for a few reasons. If you google it 70% of people watch RU-vid on their smartphones. Regardless, when it comes to blowing up an image on a larger screen like a tv sensor size doesn’t have much to do with that. It’s all about resolution. Sensor size helps with depth of field and low light scenarios. Plenty of some of the most beautiful looking movies have been shot on apsc cameras. If you’re using an iPhone 15 pro and shooting in log and know how to get a good color grade really the only thing you’re missing is the opportunity to have a crazy blurry background for the most part. I have examples on my channel of side by sides with the 15 pro max and my full frame Sony and once I step the aperture to around f5-8 it’s extremely hard to tell the difference. Btw I’m a full frame shooter and always will be I’m just saying for on the go walking around vlogging situations you can’t beat some of these smaller devices and I’m over walking around with a big full frame camera and lens with a shotgun mic attached when I have a phone with 4 cameras that shoots amazing video and is in my pocket anyway.
@Marcus_Visbal
@Marcus_Visbal 3 месяца назад
@@TheEverythingMan it goes further than that, prores log on an iPhone is going to take up way more than a long gop on a mirrorless which isn’t worth it and the dynamic range is good but doesn’t stack up. Those figures you quoted are from 2020 and since the pandemic started, internal figures from Google indicate 45%(my mistake) viewership on tvs these days. Even more so, 4k on res on an iPhone 14 vs 4k res on a ff isn’t even a comparison. If all you’re doing is vlogging, great, but if you have talking head, and anything else, the ff is the most versatile. Also saying “movies have been shot on an aps-c sensor” doesn’t really mean anything. An ARRI super 35 destroys a Sony aps-c and the red destroys those consumer cameras as well. Phone are only at a level of higher dslr from a decade ago. They’re good but not great. Anyone saying anything differently is stuck in a RU-vid rabbit hole and believes an iPhone 15 pro can match or come close to matching an ARRI 35 and that’s not the case. If it was, production companies and Hollywood would not use them anymore to save money and time. If you compassions are under RU-vid compression, it will be hard to see, but for other platforms, it’s incredibly noticeable. Yet again, do you but don’t knock other people for what they do to retain quality
@Marcus_Visbal
@Marcus_Visbal 3 месяца назад
@@TheEverythingMan those figures are pre pandemic, internal data from google shows it’s 45%(my mistake). When it comes to resolution, resolution is only as good as sensor size and mega pixel quality. iPhones are good but only akin to high level DSLRs from 10 years ago. Saying “movies have been shot on an apps-c” means absolutely nothing. A super 35 on an ARRI or RED completely crushes any Sony equivalent or consumer based camera. The ProRes Apple log is over kill all the way, a long gop on a mirrorless is going to have file sizes far smaller and take up less space while retaining higher quality. Even more so, sensor size is a big deal as it allows in more light, even in non-low light scenarios. Smaller sensors are tedious to color grade as any adjustments sway the image to an extreme point so you have to really fine tune it. Even more so, you’ll have to do tons of work in post to make it match up. If you’re vlogging and only vlog, sure, use your phone and a pocket 3. For professional work or taking content creation serially, there is no substitute for a mirrorless quality wise. And the comparisons are most likely on RU-vid and after YT compression, sure, they’ll look similiar. But for other platforms, you’ll see the difference. But if phones, specifically the iPhone 15 pro max, were that amazing, then production companies would do away with larger cinema cameras to save money, especially the studios. If you think that an iPhone 15 pro comes close to an ARRI 35 or Red Komodo, you’ve gone down a RU-vid rabbit hole that isn’t based in facts. Don’t knock people for not comprising quality, that’s all I’m saying

The biggest issue with the DJI Mic 2 is it doesn't keep time very well. Tried to sync up audio with my FX-3, and after 30 seconds or so, they drift apart (when recording on internal memory). I won't be using it again for this reason. Never had an issue with the RODE wireless mics doing this same thing, I feel RODE is more Pro and all DJI products are more consumer 😕

My hope is that Rode steps out there with the ultimate system. If they make their devices about the size of the Tascam DR-10L Pro, they can have AAA batteries instead of the built it battery. The Rode does sound better! I tried them both myself and like the Rode better. So here is my wishlist for their next update: removable batteries, touchscreen on the receiver, and the ability to use MicroSD cards for storage. They do this, they will dominate and not even the DR-10L Pro could touch them. Also, keeping with the same form factor of being able to use it without the lavalier mic if you choose. What do you guys think??
