On this video, I do a quick range test with the DJI Mini 2 drone. It could have went much further, but it got far away enough where the drone only had enough battery to return home. The signal was still very strong when the drone had to return to home. Recorded June 2021.

Just wondering, did you check wind direction / speed when doing this? I don't believe the drone takes that in to account for RTH but the operator must do so

yeah but how well does the auto RTH work when flying out you are with the wind, but returning its AGAINST the wind?

Wow I'm in a pretty remote area and the most I ever get is 3000 ft before the screen starts blipping and I get a signal lost alarm. What am I doing wrong?

Was that the remote that comes with it or the upgraded one?

In suburban area, you only get about 3000-4000ft. But it's still a huge improvement over Dji Mini that can only get about 600-800ft in suburban area.

Yup I got mine to about 5500 feet today. Now take it out to flat land like this with no buildings or houses and you can get it 9-10,000 feet. I watched a dude fly one over a lake and got 12,000 feet with his.

I can easily get 4miles out of mine @ 150' (less wind at lower alt) pushing one direction.

I have had a thought on these range tests. Some don’t make it back because of battery. Well looking at the shape of the drone it occurred to me that the drone may actually more streamlined in reverse, and maybe it could go further, easier going backwards. Just as flying sideways must create the most drag. Perhaps a test for this may assist those drone pilots who seem doomed on the way back, maybe it could save the day. A test showing a range test in reverse vs forward may establish an important drone action to perform on returns.

So the technical range is 6 miles, but battery lasts 2 miles before ti has to come back.

No. It lasts much longer. You can clearly see at 00:25 he started off with a battery that was only charged to 83%. This was a pointless test and a misleading video.

No bigger batteries, but this drone can go nearly 4 miles out and back in the right conditions.

@@ADSUPINTHIS The mini uses a bigger battery that will fit in the mini 2 but it is a little heavier.

Use a mini mavik battery its cheaper last longer. Throw ur mini 2 batteries away

00:25 Why would you do a range test and start with an 83% charged battery? Now you've misled everyone who watches this video..... The range is up to 4 miles (when returning to home) in ideal conditions when using a FULLY charged battery.

Asking why you would do a range test with 83% battery is a legitimate question and I was genuinely curious to hear his answer.....

That is 3.8 kilometres roughly. Seen write up's saying it can fly 10 kilometres. Not ever going to happen as the battery will fade way before that. Furtherest distance i have seen is just over 4 kilometers. I personally will never fly more than a kilometer or so. Interesting and thanks for the video. 👍🙂

On a one way flight with no wind or w tail wind ... Yes it will go 6 miles roughly...
