Anyone who has scenery comparable to this within driving distance should be grateful. I'd be floored to see this beauty once in my life. Getting to fly, photograph, and film in these areas is special. I'm happy for the many who. Hopefully, I will someday. Until then, I'll be practicing and learning from teachers like you. Thanks!
I hope that the wind was what caused most of the tracking jitters. I still love manual flying, but a quickshot from time to time can be very helpful. Thanks for the video!
Hi, these are great shots and tips. As an Australian, I especially enjoy the use of the Irish inspired music in your editing. Best wishes to you and all your viewers from Brisbane Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
Hi Stewart, I enjoyed this video very much, thank you. I would like to know how you recorded the audio that goes along with video, please. I have the DJI mic similar to the one shown in the video clips which I could use to record sound to the DJI pocket 2 I have but is there a simple way to connect it to the DJI RC controller ?
Stewart, great video and channel. We're (Well Travelled Life) long time subscribers. We are currently staying on Skye for the next three or four days. Can you suggest a couple of locations on Skye that I should visit with our DJI Mini 3 Pro drone? Thanks for all you do!
Brilliant!! Nice not to see someone not worrying about 180 rule motion blur stuff or can you not choose the shutter speed with the automated shots? Do you use ND filters at all with the DJ M3P? Cheers Andy.
I love the way you always seem to find these very cinematic surroundings to demonstrate these features. I usually fly everything manually, but I think I will try to use these quickshots more. As you said, some of these quickshots are nearly impossible to fly manually.
Certainly when you are filming yourself the intelligent flight modes can be a big help. Being limited to 30 fps with QuickShots is quite annoying for me so I personally would tend to use Focus Track modes more.
@@DroneFilmGuide I used activetrack on my Mavic 2 Pro all the time. But sold that one because of the new regulations. Just ordered the Mini 3 Pro to dodge those regulations mostly 😁. Of course, while always keeping it safe
@@StevenPeeters it makes me sad to hear about all these new regulations. I know it's just a matter of time here in the US, too. I would really miss my Air 2s, but I'm grateful that DJI is addressing that problem with the Mini 3 Pro.
@@skycam509 there are a lot of cowboy drone pilots that endanger other people and their property. Thecregulations are way too strict for those of us that have a professional attitude. But it gives a framework to weed out the bad apples. One big advantage is that now the regulations are the same all over Europe, and when you are licensed in one vountry you can fly anywhere. That wasn’t the case before
Great channel. Glad I found you guys. I noticed you are using screen recording on the DJ RC but in the final youtube vid, you switch (seemlessly) between screen recording (that includes screen annotations) and live video (without screen annotations). How do you do that seemlessly?
Love your videos / channel! Your "everything you need to know" video is what convinced me to push the BUY button on the Mini 3 Pro. While I'm still awaiting its arrival here in the US, I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the screen recording resolution for the DJI RC that comes with the Mini. Everything I've seen thus far recorded on the RC is 480p, but yours looks to be far higher resolution. Are you using another DJI remote, or did you hack the thing to get higher than 480p screen recordings?
Hey! Thanks for your kind words. Screen recordings on the DJI RC are 960x540. For sure, they're a little bit fuzzy when you watch full screen on a computer but that's what you're seeing in all our videos. Good enough for RU-vid tutorials. Cheers!
The mini 3 manual mentioned 2x not to fly in the rain. It seems you had no issues as I saw even the drops coming down. Have you had any issues with flying the mini 3 in rain ? How do you care for it after flying it in the rain ? Thanks for this great video !
Great video as always Stewart and Alina... just a quick question though. How actually resistant is that thing to rain? I don't take mine out if I can as much as sniff a coming shower.
Hi guys, love ur videos and have just bought the mini pro 3 (had a spark 1st) question does it change the resolution from say 4k to 1080 when you use active track or when using any of the auto flight modes.
Hi Stewart I have a mini pro the first edition. I am impressed by the new features in the mini pro 3. It would be an extravagance for me to upgrade to the minipro 3 but I m tempted. Do you think the additonal features of the mini pro as compared to the new edition is worth upgrading. I am just a hobby user and use my drone mostly when out and about in my Campervan.
Well, it's certainly a step-change in terms of obstacle avoidance, intelligent flight modes, power and picture quality. It's a worthy upgrade. However, if you've managed not to have any incidents with your Mini so far then the picture quality is still fantastic on that drone and ultimately it's what you do with the drone that counts of course. So yes, it's a good upgrade, but that's not to say you need to upgrade.
Hi man. I must confess that I am an on and off viewer, only tuning into certain vids. I have to say that, when I do, I'm always blown away by the quality and accessibility of your content. It really is excellent and really inspiring. I make mountain biking content and I'm very interested by both the quick shot and follow me features of the drone. How easy is it to remove the controller sticks and place the controller in a bag. I'm imaging a situation where I'd like to get a follow cam of the bike. I'd need to hide the controller away in a bag as I don't want the controller on the bars. In your opinion, would this work? It would probably be a deal breaker for me. If you could find time to reply it would be hugely appreciated. Thank you mate.
Hey! Yes, in fact, I've been using the controller without the sticks so I can put it in my pocket after setting up Active Track. I need to double check if there's a button lock on the controller because that's the only issue, i.e. accidentally pressing buttons once it's in your pocket/bag.
@@DroneFilmGuide thanks Stewart and Alina. If you could find that out it would be super helpful. Hopefully I could find a place in the bag where the buttons wouldn't get knocked... Not easy when you are riding a bike down a mountain though!
I’m a big time fan of DJI, still using my P4P but I was thinking of getting this as soon as I saw how small it was. The only thing holding me off is that the wind drags this like crazy so that will make reshooting the same scene multiple times and that’s a no go for me.
Awesome video as always. I have a question - I use Luminar AI & Neo for my photo editing and was wondering what the general consensus is re what is a good user friendly software for editing video as it’s a minefield as to which ones to focus on or to avoid🤷🏼♂️ any suggestions greatly appreciated
In my opinion, DaVinci Resolve has an unbelievable amount of capability for a free app. That being said, you need good hardware to run it. I have tried several others, as well. My very favorite is using Lumafusion on my ipad. It doesn't have some of the advanced features that other ones do, but it is easy to learn, does a great job, and renders video about four times faster than Resolve or Premiere.
I have a mini 3 Pro andI have watched a lot of videos on these modes but no one has ever mentioned whether you can use the camera for stills whilst using these. When I'm shooting real estate and put it into say POI it is in video mode.. what if I want to take still shots??
can you snap 'stills' whilst performing a circle?? i am asking as id like to be able to stitch the images together to make a 3D model. not looking at super accuracy but a good 3d representation say of a chimney
Thank you for another great video! Always informative, fun, and useful content. The footage from the Mini 3 Pro looks amazing. All of your footage so far is without using ND filters, correct? On the first flight video, you showed the shutter speed as being really fast, but the video didn't look jittery at all.
absolutely brilliant can't wait to try this now keep up the good work my friend really enjoying your videos on the mini 3 I think a great deal of people will definitely learn alot from your videos 😁👍👌 🇬🇧
Excellent video - beautiful scenery too . I also have a quick question - what happens if while in quick shot mode the drone fly's towards an object, will the censors detect it and fly around it if obstacle avoidance is enabled? And if so, will it continue with the quick shot mode, or abort the quick shot mode? if it aborts, will it return home or can you take over manually? Since it does not have side view censors, this concerns me when in quick shot mode in the event there are objects near by (such as those giant rocks in your video) ... or will it just slam into the object and therefore drone no more? lol … anyone have any info on this ?
What's the issue with 30fps when filming outdoors? I also use 25fps, the reason being avoid flickering with artificial light. But I can't see any real difference with natural light.
Hi there, great video in an amazing location. Can you change the timer from 3seconds to 5 or 10? I want to take it paddle boarding but it's not enough time to put the controller down stafely.
Unless I've missed something the answer is no. However, the first few seconds of the quick shot are normally pretty slow so even if you have to chop those off you should still be able to benefit from them.
Do you know what is the max flight distance you can select for dronie quickshot ? I have the mini before it only gave me maximum distance of 40 m for quickshot
Thanks for the great tutorial! Did your Quickshots record in 4K? It seems like my Air 2s records them in 1080 only. Is this an upgrade on the Mini 3, or am I doing something wrong?
I know my mini 2 was set to 1080, but I can just tap where it says that on the app (once drone is connected) move it to 4k and it will stay 4k until I change it. Just make sure your sd card is sufficient to capture 4k footage and any device it gets played on is also capable. I have a flash drive my SD card fits in, which I pop into my 70" TV and am blown away at the footage. My PC is older and laughs at anything 4k.
@@FrankBoston thanks for the reply. I shoot in 4k all the time, and didn't even notice that the quick shots were in 1080 until I went to edit them. I was sort of disappointed in what I thought was a limitation of the drone, but I'm glad to hear it was operator error! Haha!
Thanks - extremely informative, in a stunning location. I still have newbie anxiety with this, my first drone and am steadily learning to fly it after one week of ownership. Can’t wait to try out these Quick Shot moves whilst out on my bike which look to give some dynamic variation to the trace/parallel Active Track modes. Subscribed.
I bought this drone, to pretty much replace my Mavic 2 pro, mainly because of your videos! I noice you use your shutter speed for exposure, does the double the frame rate rule not really make much difference on this type of materia? Your videos never look choppy.
We don't have ND filters yet so I've been careful to not shoot in a way that will look choppy, e.g. fast rotational movements close to the ground. The shot at 1:32 for example - it's quite obvious to me there is no ND here.
Nice examples again Stewart. Did you encounter any of the connection or range problems that seem to cripple the mini 3 with the dji rc (as per many independent reviewers lately)?
Not really because I don't fly far away. Most of my flights have been in very windy conditions so I can't afford to take the drone more than 500m away, especially if it's up high. A lack of power was my main issue on these locations. Yes, it can fly and produce stable footage in windy conditions but at the top of a mountain in Scotland it wouldn't be my first choice of drone. Many times I struggled to get it back in sports mode. That's more a reflection on the crazy conditions I was flying in but suffice to say the Air 2S would have done much better. I have had connection issues when I've been sat in the car flying but that's always to be expected. I'll need to see what the independent reviewers are saying.
No worries! So, Photoshop is Adobe software that is only for still photographs. We edit these videos in Final Cut Pro X which is one of many video editing options. The colours are indeed slightly modified. Normally we add a LUT to the footage, i.e. a preset that tweaks the colours to our taste. It's not really necessary though as you can make some manual adjustments to the colours in your editing software too. I'd say that 95% of the reason these shots look good though is because the landscapes are stunning and the colours look good without too much meddling. Nice light at the time of filming is important too.
What beach is that? Looks great, my Mini 3 arrived today so hoping to get out over the weekend to get some filming done. Was speaking to a friend today and he is wanting to go and do some filming at Castle Tioram in Lochaber, I had never heard of it before but looks a good place to fly.
Hey Stewart, by any chance did you try any with the camera pointed up ? With the new 60deg upward facing option would be good for a building or something from below the feature perhaps? Or doesn't it allow it? and also can you do this in that new vertical video option too ?
I'd need to check but I think it will work with the building example provided the drone is still sufficiently high off the ground. Not sure about vertical video - Focus Track doesn't do vertical at the moment so I suspect QuickShots are the same.
what is the max video resolution can you shoot in for focustrack or quickshots? Are there any other flight modes that require you to lower your recording resolution down from 4k60?
I have just seen 5 different videos showing signal loss at 300 meters with the DJI RC. Even though VLOS is needed, it shows the signal is weak and NOT O3!
If insta brought a drone out it'd beat dji tracking hands down. I have this drone and noticed the loss of tracking. I also had the dji osmo 6 gimbal and insta360 flow gimbal and you can tell insta tracking is superior
They should programing the camera to glide gently to the new camera angle when it loses tracking instead of jolted a few degrees. Seems common sense. Also need the ability to add custom master shot playlists. Even if it is just a handful crafted by the community.
Fingers crossed but I don't know I'm afraid. We'll have a video on Focus Track coming out soon and much of this you can do in Focus Track (with 24/25 fps).
