Most people won't see the difference in image quality, but after some time they will notice how expensive is storage. Bigger files aren't always a good thing especially in consumer electronics. If you need best quality you shouldn't consider tiny action cameras at all. Go full professional, record RAW material and compress with your favorite profile in postproduction.
Seems true but quality is much more advanced even lower Bitrates. DJI announced to fix this in an firmware update. DJI always kept their promise imho (even when this did not always ment on time 😅).
You may see (in an absolutely CRYSTAL CLEAR way) the difference in the image quality due to the low bitrate , by comparing the DJI's Mavic 3 Pro VERSUS DJI Mavic 3 Pro CINEMA !!!!! The EXACT same Drone , Sensor , Camera .... EVERYTHING !!! The ONLY difference is the CODEC ..... Which has a lot to do with the bitrate. PRO = 200Mbit/sec VS PRO CINEMA = 1768Mbit/sec at 4K/60p The exact SAME Drone has more than TWICE the price when the bitrate is sky high with the HELP of the PRORES codec. Why do you thing , this happens ? The extra SSD has literally ZERO extra cost for DJI ..... Less than 100$ ..... We are talking about the EXACT SAME drone having double cost due to the bitrate FACTOR !!! It is T H A T important. If you do not believe me , just watch ALL the RU-vid image quality videos of Mavic PRO VS MAVIC PRO CINEMA. DJI knows it ..... But they are NOT willing to deliver the PRORES codec in an action camera.

I know bitrate is important and I m not sure where I read it but for action 5 pro a reply someone got from DJI is, that they have something more efficient NOW and hence even when lower bitrate is there but still quality not compromised, that's why I was asking if someone more knowledgeable can test it and show us too what action 5 pro lack right now.
I bought Osmo 5 2 days ago, can return/replace till 09/10/2024. So what would you suggest? Like I prefer the content quality rather then the video quality. Video quality is good, but if content goes boom, then, IYKYK xD.

I've got the osmo action 3 when riding my motorbike over 1000miles with the 3 and I love it. I have several episodes on my channel. I'm still thinking why I should upgrade to 5pro
Well you probably dont need a upgrade, I do think its a little better. And I do think Dji will update the action 5 pro, so the different will be larger over time.
The question I have is why no one is addressing the fact that the Action 5 Pro's sensor resolution is too low in pixel-binning mode to deliver native 4K resolution?
@EspenJohan yeah this one they should have called it the OA 4 plus instead of OA 5 pro. Really nothing pro about an action cam or the action cam look. It has couple neat features and I guess the battery life is ok but giving up bittate for battery life was probably not the best idea. I have never had an issue with battery life especially since these all have a quick charge to them. Get a fast charge battery pack and you are good to go.

Hi, thanks for watching. Im making a video now, compared to the Action 4. In 4K 30 fps, Supernight mode and normal. You dont get H.264 on the Action 5 (only HEVC 265). Im gonna make more videos 👍
I purchased the Action 5, but it hasn’t arrived yet! I expect the problem to be resolved in a firmware update. If not, I will return the Action 5 to DJI! 🙏🏾
Hopefully they come out with a special firmware similar to GoPro labs, where you have control of so so much more than what's available from stock, like some GoPro's can push their bitrate to 200

I'm just testing my Action 5 now and i can say that the difference in bitrate is noticeable while shooting at fine details. While the Action 4 records subtle textures, the Action 5 misses them partially. It's not very noticeable, it depends on the shot. If you are static, the codec adds all the details in a second or so, if you keep moving it struggles. That said, i'm pretty sure DJI will address this issue, they launched the 5 this way so the reviewers could state wonders about the battery, but when the hype is gone they will fix that. And even if they don't fix that... man! The sensor is a beast! I'm preparing a comparison about the sensor of Action 4 and Action 5 and there is noticeable difference. And the dual wireless mic that pairs in no time in comparison to the 4... I'd keep it anyway.

But technically speaking at the moment i don't see any other action camera that ticks all the marks i'm interested in such as: very good sensor, native connection with wireless mics, dual screen for fast switch from front to back shooting. Considered how the Action 4 worked, yes, i feel happy with Action 5. And i'm pretty sure that DJI will fix that bitrate thingy (i'm not sponsored, only happy customer). I too am waiting to buy the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro but only if DJI increase the bit rate at 4K to 100+ come on DJI like most people Im not bothered to much about battery life more about quality.
There was no fuzz about the lower bitrate on the Hero 12. Actually nobody talked about it then. But it's actually the ting I like about the Hero 12. Finally recordings having a normal because of the lower bitrate. Especially on 1080p. Bitrates and file sizes where too high on the Hero 11 and also on the Action 3 (probably Action 4 too). Differences between file sizes of 1080p and 2.7K were minimal, making the effort recording in 1080p completely useless. In fact, on the Hero 11 bitrates and file size where almost identical on the same recording on 1080p and 2.7K. Bitrates are already for years way too high on these action cams, especially on the lower resolutions. And to be honest, I don't see much of a difference on the Hero12 in Image quality compared to the Hero11. Suppose it lso won't be a big deal on the Action 5 now.
You want to know WHY -----> this is is the response of DJI , on the DJI forum: ------> action5pro 4nm chip greatly increases encode efficiency; using less bitrate without sacrificing image quality. (Technically good enough Signal-to-Noise Ratio compared to video raw) For a same level encoding chip and algorithm, bitrate increasing does help with detail, but details stop to gain as bitrate reaches the saturation point. Chip and encoding algorithm improvement will lower the saturation point bitrate, just like action5pro does.
That could seem right, the chip makes a different in image quality. But I do think there will be a fix. Where we can choose low or high, and if you choose high that will effect battery life.
It’s funny that someone on the internet watched RU-vid videos and suddenly knows more about the a camera, he don’t even own himself, than the manufacturer.
Its not an issue if you don’t grade, try slapping a lut and in low light, you’d see it gets destroyed real quick. Hopefully DJI lets us choose the bitrate
I sent my 5 back, told them it was the bit rate, they didnt say they were changing it in a update. If they said it was on the books I would have kept it. Let wait n see.
