What are the best settings for the A5 Pro so that my video quality doesn't come out so muddy. My videos make me look like I am a painting or something, and it looks so awful. Even in a well lit room, I look muddy. If you could please let me know, i would really appreciate it! Amazing content as always!
Thank you for your work! I'm still undecided because I won't do much color grading, but battery and size (and price) are what I like about the Action 5... Also I'm used to the app from my original Osmo Pocket 1. The better internal mic and the "point and shoot" settings of the Insta are why I'm still undecided. What you mentioned about the sharpness of the Insta was also very helpful. Thank you for showing "normal" low light, such indoor scenarios are why I'm interested in that (children's birthdays and such 😅). Maybe I'll try to get a black Friday deal on an Action 4 until the HDR look has been fixed...
I don’t own a vlogging action camera yet, but over the past month, I’ve been researching the market. I’m looking for something for personal use, where I can capture memories without spending much time on tweaking, post-editing, color grading, or other enhancements that turn your captured life experience into a video-product made for others. My goal is simply to preserve the 'past me' and the life I had, so that years from now, I can enjoy these moments with family. In my opinion, the Ace Pro 2 could be the ultimate vlogging camera with its quality-of-life features and ease of use... BUT, the image indeed looks soft and out of focus ALL THE TIME in EVERY video I've watched, even after your professional tweaking and editing, so it’s a deal-breaker for me. And Insta360 is a hard skip for me until they introduce a close-focused lens. And hope it does not cost an arm and a leg. I want a camera to capture MY life, not to shape my life AROUND the camera to do its job well.
Being a hiking channel in windy conditions the mic cover on the Ace Pro 2 is really appealing, the flip screen would assist with lining up the composition on tripod shots. As I have the Insta360 x4 , the colour science should be similar too. 🤔 Really don’t think your viewers will notice the difference with only being 8 bit either.
Hi Tamara, just wondered if you have had any indication from Insta 360 about firmware updates for the Ace Pro 2 to add extra features or fix some of the issues various reviews are highlighting?
Thanks for this Tamara, really helpful. As a newbie creator, it's gonna be the Ace Pro 2 for me, the ease of use, flip screen, no need for an additional mic (in most scenarios), AI editing is a win
Depends on individual need actually. OA5 gives you the flexibility to control the final image. Not difficult to colour grade. Matches the clips out from my OP3 and A6700 👍👍👍 AP2 basically you are stuck with what the camera decides for you which is basically a super digital, AI-ish look 😑
I'm new to the action camera space. How likely is it that an update will be released for the Ace Pro 2 to address some of the issues being reported, similar to what DJI did for the Action 5?
Another excellent presentation, Tamara. I have an Action 3, and can't afford to upgrade, but were I doing so I would have been helped a lot by this, which was interesting to watch anyway.
It's all about settings, understanding lighting, and in most cases to get the perfect shot you have to practice out in the field to understand what works and what does not work. The Ace Pro 2 seems solid enough! No professional camera, mobile camera, or action camera will shoot a perfect video out of the box. Learn lighting and, most of all, settings to adapt to any environment or situation. Otherwise, you will be stuck with the auto settings, and they always are terrible!
I already own an OA4, and I'm planning to get another action cam, but i can't decide to get the OA5 or just get another OA4 at a discounted price. I don't see a lot of difference with the OA5, and i don't like the Ace Pro 2. Tough decision 😅
Nice comparison. I got the A5P and I’m wondering what’s better to use, hlg or dlog m? Also with dlog m, do you use color recovery on or off. And on the Mimo app there is a color recovery button, is that the official DJI Lut for the color profile? As for as color grading I’m willing to do a 1 click but nothing more, that’s why I’m asking. Thanks in advance, keep up the great work.
With D-Log M, the colour recovery in the camera doesn’t bake the conversion into the footage, it’s just giving you an idea of what the footage will look like when converted. In the Mimo app though when editing (not while previewing the footage during recording) DJI does have a conversion LUT that you can apply to the footage, so that could work for you if you mainly edit in the Mimo app. But if you also edit in a desktop editor you can download DJI’s conversion LUT as a quick conversion too.
first time I saw the footage of OAC5 i was like wow,,,,, take my money!!!, now comparing with the ace pro 2, I realized that something is "wrong" with the dji footage? it make sense? i just order the ace pro 2, coming from a hero9, so anyways Im getting a big upgrade
Awesome, and informative, video as always. I also could'nt decide so i got both. MY use would be mainly to pick up, hit record, and go. I 100% agree with your assessment. I will not be color grading, or anything like that. I recently took both cameras to a Billy Joel/Sting concert and both did great! I like the dual screens on the osmo a5p because i dont like fiddling around with the extra step of deploying the screen of the ace pro2, and i LOVE the download/upload speed of the DJI app, and I LOVE the battery life of the osmo a5p!!, but then I love the unit audio of the ace pro2 better than the osmo a5p. Not really sure i can say one is better than the other although i tend to pick up the osmo a5p because of the battery life. Thanks again for your review.
Thanks for another great video 👍. I am new to using these types of cameras. I do photography and usually in manual mode. I bought the action 5 pro a few weeks ago, mainly for making videos when I'm cycling, walking or on holiday. I haven't really used the camera yet. I always find these types of comparison videos difficult, because I haven't seen or know the environment that is being filmed myself. I bought the action 5 pro because of the internal storage, energy consumption.
Agree with your conclusions and would lean towards the OA5... but ridiculous appearance of the clouds I think is a deal-breaker! Does this also happen in D-log M?
My question is, with the HDR issues on the Action 5 Pro...is this fixable via a firmware update? Or will it not be fixed until next year with the Action 6?
To be honest, the action 5 pro is wayyyy better. I feel like insta360 is doing whatever they can to get people to jump on the hype bandwagon of extras. The extra processing power, the fragile flip screen for an action cam, and the extreme low light feels forced (no normal sensor does that, basic physics and logic). Plus the camera is so huge, heavier and obnoxious, can’t even be discreet. DJI is a richer company and they stuck to the basics, they didn’t even go and copy the flip screen. Thank god for that, I’m happy with my action 5 pro. Love the small form factor, the amazing battery life, swift and easy mic 2 connection and great 4k video. Don’t get hyped
For pure vlogging I’d go for the Insta, for me moto vlogging and doing travel videos I’d go for the Action. Owning both a 360 X4 and the 3S I know how much they have improved the quality and it’s becoming a hard choice for anybody new to action cameras.
I think DJI messed it up with the 5. If I wanted to buy one now the choice would be Ace Pro 2 vs Action 4. I'm keeping my GoPro 11. I won't buy one now because if DJI can put a reasonable amount of internal storage and still keep the price lower than the competition it means they are all charging way too much for these gadgets.
@@photographlisbon Interesting…I think the Action 5 is finally the camera that resolves all the issues the existed in the 3 and even 4. Its a leap step forward. I would consider dumping my GoPro11 and going with the 5.
