Sony FX6 does have auto focus in S&Q 4K 60FPS. Your camera hasn't been updated. Also the 17-28 isn't parafocal -the Lidar is doing its job. I've tested this by disconnecting the lidar module.
great review. Thank you. some of the best about this wonder camera. now there is no doubt that I will spend money on this lens. ыфь some people wrote in the forum that autofocus is lost every time the focal length is changed. But I now realized that this is not so. In Russia, this camera is not popular for some reason. Sony prefers more. I have Sony fx3. But I love 4D very much. I bought a license for a prores raw and only shoot on it. because of this, i completely left davinci. I bought the color final. Shoot more camera reviews. very interesting.
When shooting the FX6, if youlre in Cine EI mode, you can toggle the dual base iso as those are the only options, should be easy to get on 12,800 ISO !
Michael, I had a very very difficult shoot in a club with lots of LED lights on the side-walls and on the top. I shoot in 4444XQ on the 4D and BRAW on the 12k (an overall underrated camera) and tried to eliminate the colors in front of face and clothes. I could not fix the lights on the 4d-shots, so I decided to record the same in PRR, used the raw-convertor tool into CDNG and WOW - I used the Blackmagic Profile on the converted CDNG files and got BRAW and CDNG graded perfect (IMO) for the whole video-sequences. I also like the FX6, but I had to decide between the FX6 and the 4D. And the 4D was my final decision. I used the Samyang V-AF lenses, a really great glass.
The FX6 was definitely not being used to it's full potential here. 6:47 - S&Q mode should have autofocus. Something seems fishy here. 14:53 - There should be a mode that restricts which base ISO's you can use. This was definitely an unfair comparison, it's up to you to learn the cameras before publishing a comparison test.
Damn boy, this Video is so badly prepared, you made so many mistakes with the fx6. Why making a comparison Video between two cameras, when you have no clue how to use one of them? This just sounds like DJI paid you to say this stuff. 1. You can use 4k60p without S&Q mode and get full autofocus. 2. Turn the Camera in cine EI Mode and change to the 2. base of ISO 12800 for low light. 3. You can turn the brightness of the LCD in the menu up and use a waveform to easily set your exposure. 4. What are those colores?! ... I could go on, but this would be just a hate comment without some constructive feedback so: Things that would be really interesting: - Detailled image comparison (details, dynamic range, noise, colores, etc.) - Audio comparison, as a solo operator you need to capture audio on your own. - Put the fx6 on you're RS3 Pro and compare the stabilisation - Comparison of outdoor and studio use Hope you get the point..
I'll echo all of these above comments and just add that this is not a comparision video, this is just a DJI video with an FX6 showing up once in a while. Spend some more time with the FX6 and then you can do a real world comparision. All that being said it does seem like the Ronin 4D works for you and I am excited to see what you do with it.
Great video. Tempting. Just not in love with the image. And the LiDAR is suspect from what I’ve seen from others. It is a smart direction from DJI though.
Great video! I'm about to get the Ronin 4D and planning on using my Sony 16-35mm 2.8 on it... Will I need to purchase the extra counterweight or does it balance ok out of the box?? Thanks!
Thanks for the video comparison. Quick question: When you put the Sony lens on the Ronin 4D was the autofocus as good as the DJI lens? Ideally I'd like to buy the Sony lens for the 4D but I'm wondering if it's autofocus works as well as the native DJI. Thanks again for the vid!

i switched from the fx6 to the ronin and i do not regret my choice at all.
The XLR extension plate is out my man !! I search youtube in its whole and couldn't find any videos about it. Could you maybe make it your next ? I'd appreciate it
Dude. You couldn’t even get tot the second base ISO. Why use a camera without knowing how to use it? I feel this is not really a fair comparison of low light performance.
I got the similar results in low-light with exact the same glass in front of both cameras. The FX6 has a bit better picture quality, but PRO RES RAW on the 4D and some other big features are incredible options for the 4D. Most Sony users stay with SONY, but for me as a Blackmagic User, the 4D is the perfect addition to my 12k and 6k cameras. And I am a big fan of the FX6, believe me, but I had to decide which one is better for my purposes and quick-setups.
In 2018 I invested over $3,000 in the Dji Osmo Pro x5. The picture quality was awesome but… They stopped providing support for it (no updates) no more parts etc. My friend this will happen to the Ronnin D. I give it 2 more years, then it will be bricked.
I feel your pain. I also had an Osmo Pro (because I had a normal Osmo and loved it for pole shots, but it was poor in low light or indoors). But I found the Pro almost unusable as it had no dynamic auto focus, and the camera based focus was rubbish. I ended up selling it, but always felt it was a missed opportunity by DJI. And yep, v.poor tech support. They just didn't care.
Im a little late, but I absolutely agree with you. I bought a used ronin m like 3 years ago, the app to calibrate the gimbal is literally discontinued so I had to sell it. Dont think it will happen with this one tho, probably a mark 2 version in a few years. Bricking this camera would be totally unacceptable in this market right now. Especially a camera thats €6500
You seem that you don't have any idea how to use FX6. You were saying things irrelevant about the focus and about the ISO sensitivity in FX6 which you apparently can't figure out how to use them. I watched the video to the very last minute and I would say this is not a comparison video between DJI Ronin 4D and Sony Fx6. It was more why you love your DJI Ronin 4D. Disclaimer: Sony fx6 has similar features on its small screen related to using a fixed focus on the subject regardless if it's a human being or something else. Plus the auto-focus in Sony fx6 can be adjusted how sensitive you want it to be on a scale from 1-6. Regarding the ISO sensitivity it's not digital ISO sensitivity you find in the menu. It's a side button that says hi med low and in the menu you can choose which ISO sensitivity do you need 800 or 12800. I use DJI products as well but when it was up to me to choose something for me I went for Sony fx6 because it has all the features I needed plus that I already have Sony cameras so I didn't need to buy new lenses. The downside was more about the expensive CF express type A cards and that you need an external reader to use them on your computer. Otherwise I am pretty much satisfied with what I bought. 🤓
What setting was I missing? If it’s capable of doing it why wouldn’t it just switch over? On the 4D for example it won’t do audio in 6K 50fps so it tells you on screen. But anything else if I change a frame rate there’s no need to dive back into the menus to change anything else. Blackmagic, DJI, RED all have very intuitive menus. Sony, Canon etc have garbage menu designs. Yes once you learn it and develop muscle memory it’s fine but ugh it’s so frustrating. I loved the fx6 final image and the ergonomics of the camera are *chef kiss* but that menu system ruins it for me.
In order to get the the 12,800 ISO on the FX6, you need to switch the base ISO. I know this wasn't an FX6 review, but I wish you had more time to work with the camera and get to know it. Would love to hear your reaction to the variable ND, one of the biggest features on the FX6. Did you get a chance to use it. It's a game changer.
Thank you for the video. In my case I have to auto calibrate the Dji 17-28 every time I change the focal lenght. If you do the auto calibrate when it is in 28mm and change to 17mm, the auto focus and the manual focus don't work properly. I have done a lot of test in order to prevent this issue with no result. Other guys report the same issue in the Dji forum. I'm waiting for a fix by Dji.
