DJI Ronin Review! 

I keep coming back to this video for balancing. Better than the official DJI video to show how to balance.

Just recently picked one of these up and mainly running a GH4 on it. Still trying to get the right settings with it on how we use it but there's some really good tips in here. Thaaaaaaaanks!

Its funny now that i think of it. Im 13, have none of the proffesional equipment you have but i still keep coming back for more. That would be cool if there was a video series of having three or more film makers using the same location same actors same every thing but have them write their own story and see how they compare. It would also be pretty cool if someone did the same thing but with the same story and see how they shoot the whole thing

you might want to turn down your stiffness. It will get rid of the little jitters and help battery life a bit.

Before watching this video, I was of the mind that more technology doesn't equal better end product, but after seeing the initial shots from the Ronin, I'm sold. I have a steady cam and it's great, but I don't have near the flexibility you have with the Ronin. I can't believe how cheap these stabilizers are compared to when they first hit the market. I still think nothing is as important as a tripod and fluid head, but wow, those stabilizers really give you options. Thanks for sharing your experience with it and keep up the great work.

this thing is epic! just wish you guys would just show the content, what is all this other random stuff in the video, I mean these like 1:30 before the content actually starts and then there's a domain.com ad in the middle!!!! just frankly annoying

You really need crouching tiger moves, ninja like stealth and then like sergeant Doakes said 'you don't walk, you glide motherlover. Like a lizard on ice'. Unfortunately there's no real 4-axis gimbal yet that takes out the up and down movement of walking. For me, the Ronin is nice, but a bit pricey and way to heavy and big. Now the pistol grip gimbals are making their way. The Nebula 4000 kind of started this... but motion looked very twitchy, you can see the system making calculations then stearing the gimbal motors to counteract movement. I'm looking forward to the Pilotfly H1 which looks pretty friggin' sweet and the movement looks rather organic. I bet we'll get to see quite a few of these kind of devices over the next few months. I think this is a great entry level (they go for around 700/750-ish bucks) and keeps things, especially when using mirrorless systems like the A7S and GH4, very subtle, compact and lightweight. That said. Looking forward to the Film Riot EPIC Summer! Keep it up you guys.

2017 and this might still be the best bang for the buck gimbal. Incredibly smooth, durable and a huge payload (7.5 kg). The equivalent to that would be the Movi Pro which is 6 times more expensive

What camera and what lens did you use in this video?

Now that looks like a Great tool to have in the arsenal. I didn't realize you could control the positioning. Thank you for this in-depth tutorial.

You must have to have a bluetooth follow focus rig, right? How would you keep your moving subject in focus?

where was that bridge in the final steady cam shot? I know you're based out of Texas now, but it looks a lot like one on my college campus back in Buffalo NY.

The ronin has always been interesting to me because it seems like it allows you to get almost any kind of shot. Except for long crane shots or flying shots. But it seems like it could make you really lazy if you used it too much. Because it would get tempting to just leave the camera on that and only use it. Which makes me feel like its probably best I can't use it because I haven't formed the habits to avoid that laziness out of reflex. Just something I've thought about the ronin since I heard about it

Ryan, I am shooting a found footage film where time is frozen. I know you've already done TWO episodes on this but I wanted to know how to freeze time and have someone interact with an object, then have that person leave the object frozen IN MID AIR. I have a few ideas in mind but I would really love your professional input and a lot of people (I'm sure) would love to know. Thank you for your time, Ryan! also...I'm a HUGE fan!!!

It's always nuts, how it takes so much work to make a shot look effortless.

This is incredible! You guys are absolutely awesome! So grateful to what you've contributed to filmmaking and independent creatives.

Just a small doubt. If this Ronin costs $2,500, why not buy Sony A7 II or Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II for less than half that price which have in-built 5 axis image stabilisation, and can get the same effect in full frame (Sony) and micro four thirds (Olympus). Can you do a comparison in image stabilisation amongst all these?

Dear Ryan Could you do a review of the DJI Inspire 1 Quadcopter with 4K Camera and 3-Axis Gimbal because I had seen it yesterday and was very interested in the whole idea of not having to use a helicopter to film and using a drone is just awesome. Thanks for taking your time to read this!

Wow looks better than I thought. Another thing to add to the shopping list!

I've noticed that lately, the audio quality on FR has much improved. As little as a year ago, the sibilant range was really muffled, even in Ryan's VO. Is it better compression? EQ? Or better mic/preamp/recorder? Or maybe, a quieter space to record, requiring less post-processing?

I know we can create robotic horses and stuff but this just made my jaw drop. I don't know why I'm impressed from this more than the robotic horse but that is some sweet use of.. gravity.

Hey Ryan, Loved the video and I'm super excited for the Epic Summer you guys are doing. Do you think these kinds of stabilizers are going to bring about a revolution in indie filmmaking the same way dslrs did when they started getting adopted for filmmaking?

The Ronin is by far the best investment I have done for my company, I love it. I can agree on the weight issue, but still there's way to resolve it. I build my own vest and is working great!

Nothing to do with this video, but here's a challenge for you Film Riot do a project using only a Y300 or a HD 808 to get the footage.

This is awesome, but I like the Helix Jr. Much more! So small, doesn't need a stand and can rotate for low shots

I just bought a MX and was wondering if there was a way around the camera protruding out over the top of the camera I'm guessing the heaviest model of this gimbal is the answer?

That's really not a bad price for that thing, considering the bells and whistles you're getting. If there's one thing this industry has taught me - almost anything worth a damn (and even stuff that's worthless) that's made by an actual manufacturer is *insanely expensive*.

Seems like a lot of work to Get it started, but I want one.

Hey Ryan, just wondering if you still use the original Ronin? I'm looking to purchase one but since it is discontinued by DJI I'm a little hesitant. I've been looking at the Crane3s as well. Looking for the payload so the Ronin and the Crane3s are the choices. I can't even come close to a Ronin 2 so that is out of the question in terms of financial means. Just thought I would pick your brain on this.

Hey Ryan! I've had the Ronin for quite a while now and absolutely I love it. Have you tried using it in the inverted mode? I find it much more comfy and less of a burden for long takes, although it's still quite heavy. Over all, it doubles as a great workout equipment and stabiliser, you'll get massive biceps and sweet shots. Enjoy your Ronin and have a great time!

I used a Ronin equipped with a FS700 and primes on a recent shoot, we had problem after problem with it, especially with the calibrations and rebalancing after switching lenses. I suppose the Ronin is made for more compact camera bodies such as C100/300, 5D, Epic, etc?

Can't wait for the Epic Summer :D I want one of these, but I am fine with my Ikan Flyweight , Is there a difference between the kind of shots you can get with this and a stedicam?

Hey Ryan i recently purchased a DJI Ronin '' i mean my dad bought it for me'' and a canon 5D Miii, when i set my camera on the DJI Ronin since i have to grab it with my both hands i can no longer reach the lens for focusing while shooting, so my question is should i switch my lens and camera on AF while shooting or there is another way to have well focused footages ?????? please help if can't fix this focusing issues i will have to give up on making movies and maybe become aP *.o*.*r.*n.*. actor i guess you dont want that. Hi peeps, just wondering how they got that nice film look, did they use some kind of filter that reduced snow glare like a PL or ND? It looks bright hard daylight but the picture has great contrast and a soft coloured look, not to bright etc...

Hey Ryan - About focus and systems like this. I am guessing you use a small aperture in order to try keep as much as possible in focus? Any tips on how you would pull focus is you wanted to?
