One of the best reviews ever. So much info & hands on demo's. Thank you for taking the time to help all your fellow wedding film makers. Well done.... it is pure poetry by The Film Poets :-)
Hey dude, absolutely loved your review. At 9:43 I believe, you were showing the manfrotto plates and how they are not compatible. I just wanted to bring it to your attention that you tried to slide it on from the back haha. I’m still not sure if they’re compatible but they might be. This vids definitely getting a thumbs up. ✊🏼
AHAHAHAHA Literally what I was thinking and then read your comment! Just subscribed because he seems like a lovely guy and legitimately knows what he's doing.
One of the best reviews so far. DJI sent out the ronin to lots of bloggers who simply talk a dull template nonsense explaining what a gimbal is and 0 specifics about how Ronin is different or better.
Thank you so much for this very effective and practical review! I've watched several and you're the first to point out that you can use the touch screen and pull focus! That's going to work swimmingly with the Z7 I'll get testing out on it. Thank you again, superb feature demonstrations! I've subbed to your channel as I'm mixing video with my wedding photography more and more. VERY Helpful, thumbs UP of course!
I just started filmmaking. From zero to this, inspired by RU-vid filmmakers like you guys, I now have interest on making stories. I still post my videos on facebook and soon on RU-vid. Will help in my story telling!! Wish me luck!
Best DJI Ronin S video I've seen thus far. We get ours tomorrow and can't wait!!! Just a thought, perhaps put the word 'wedding' in your title since we haven't found any great tutorials with this gimbal on youtube for weddings and your video would crush it in that keyword ;) Awesome content Matt!
a couple of days being trying to watch reviews on youtbe, this is by far, the most worthful to watch and helpful. I booked one on the lunch day, this video released me from concerning. as a wedding videographer, thank you.
I think the Sony users don't understand how valuable that feature is.....especially at a wedding! I love my 1DX Mark II and 5D Mark IV. The focus system is crazy good!
Jason Belkov - How do you find the AF compares between your 1DX2 and 5D4? In particular, do you ever use the FlexiZone Large Area AF (which the 1DX2 doesn't have as it just has the small area)?
I must say one of the best reviews I've seen on RU-vid. Cant believe most of the review you see as they are sponsored by the company and giving these toys for free!. Also you video is crisp my friend ...very good.
Thanks for the tips! I'm a filmmaker from the Dominican Republic and watching your wedding videos are breathtaking, i can feel not only the love but the talent you put in those videos! Keep doing that great work! I entered this giveaway cause i think the Ronin S will improve my work on big scale! Thanks again for this!
Best and most informative Ronin S video I have seen. Thank you so much for sharing your settings. I just got mine today and such a lack of information on how to get started. I'm not new to gimbals but there certainly are a few gaps in figuring our how to set this up.
You and your team are one of the best wedding filmmakers I watch and follow. Not for the fancy weddings and venues but for the way you tell their stories -- true poets. Thank you for the inspiration. Slowly but surely, we're catching up =).
Love the fact that you are specializing the giveaway so someone who would actually benefit from it will win! Totally wish more giveaways would do this.
Great insights again, thanks for the tips. Can’t wait to get mine, I’m just now fingers crossed that there are no significant delays. Unfortunately I’m not a professional, just a RU-vidr (new channel launching shortly)... One question I have Matt is whether you are finding that the Ronin-S is making your edits easier? I’m hoping that I can accomplish more in-camera with this, and so save time on the edit for fast turnaround/more productivity. Is that your experience? If so, would love to hear more about ways to use the Ronin-S so as to save time in the edit...
Hey Tom, I can't say that it's made anything faster for me, since everything that I wanted to be smooth I'd shoot on the Ronin-M - But if you're coming from shooting handheld then that might be the case, especially if you're spending time finding the least shaky shots and applying post-stabilization etc. -Matt
I wanted to study at film school, but my family doesnt have enough money to afford me to film school. Making a cinematic or broll footages is always my dream and become a great youtuber. I really loved your review about dji ronin s and I cant wait to buy that thing. It would be really a dream come true if I get to win the gimbal and it will make a lot of impact in my life. God bless to anyone who will get the gimbal
I love how you address the fact that the ronin makes a sound when you power it. Not too many people address this factor and I am super glad that they have now given that option to place it in sleep mode; "kind of sounds like it's giving birth to an alien" haha! - Thank you for your video!! I am a filmmaker myself paying the bills with my work. I am super glad you are making this giveaway. I tried to purchase a Ronin-S thru B&H Photo but the orders are SOOO back tracked! Hopefully I can win this awesome giveaway and maybe someday reach such quality work like the content you produce! Keep up the amazing work! You are an inspiration to us all! :) ( my facebook page where I normally upload content facebook.com/RodasStudios/?ref=bookmarks)
I just graduated high school! I love filmmaking and telling stories. I spent all of my graduation on an A7 III, and other camera gear! I absolutely love the Ronin S, however it's a little out of my price range. I recently placed an order for a V2. I believe in paying it forward, and if I win the contest I will pay it forward to another commenter! Thanks!
I pre-ordered when it was first announced through B&H and got a mail yesterday saying they are back-ordered, not sure what that meant. But I take yours gladly!!!! Thanks for the chance to win!!!
I did the same thing. When I inquired about it they said they haven't gotten them in from DJI but should by the end of the month. Slightly aggravating.
Yes, bought when I pre-ordered it, it stated June 23rd. I am sure they are getting all the orders from the DJI direct site before they ship to B&H. I even have a screen shot.
Wow...What a tool.Awesome review. Probably one of the better ones I’ve seen in depth. I had no idea that this Gimbal has these capabilities. I am a photographer who recently is entering into wedding video work. Thank you for your excellent review. It’s very much appreciated.
Never been able to afford any kind of gimbals in the market. So, sweet of to give away Ronin-S, the gimbal that’s been a talk in the market now. Would love to have it.
Great review! Finally a great explanation, You answer pretty much all of our questions that we as filmmakers had. Thank you in advance for a chance to win!!
Best Ronin S review I've seen. And I think I've watched them all. I especially like it because I've recently switched from a still wedding photographer to a wedding videographer. I can only hope to be half as talented as you are! Thank you for this review.
What's up Matt! Thanks for this video, easily the most comprehensive review I've see so far! I've been looking for something to replace my Zhiyun Crane V1 and I think this is it! I make wedding films and I use to have a Ronin M as well and you are totally right about being fast and going unnoticed... very hard to do with the Ronin M. Thanks for all the information you put out on your channel! You're a big help for a rookie wedding film maker like me!
This is by far the best review of the Ronin S I have seen! You answered all the questions I had and gave awesome tips! I‘m a little nervous to use it since it is my first gimbal but now I feel excited about trying it out in the field 😊
I am an amateur short film maker and doing some sideline being a wedding shooter. I like watching this review, so informative. Unfortunately don't have money to buy these stuffs lol Btw great review sir!!
I’ve been waiting for YOUR full review of this! Such an epic device! I’ve watched this like 5 times now, LOL! Thanks for getting this up so fast, great review!! I’m a beginner, just started shooting content last month. This thing would open up a whole new world of opportunity for me as I’m all alone on a mountain top w/no friends to assist. Sláinte!!
Had to subscribe after watching this great video. I’ve searched for videos and seen some but no one has been able to deliver as you did in this video. Thank you
i've seen so many tutorials from so many youtuber doing stuffs like this but i can't explain what it is but your channel is the only one i look till the end and relook at it and relook at it ,each time i say damn this guy is a real teacher, thanks so much for your art to teach, i'm a big big fan from Germany.....thank you for so nice inspiration....
thanks for all the great tips. Came across this because I'm just a step away to buy it. But what I want to say is hat I find your footage so great so perfect emotional captured. The boy in the toy car is so adorable.
You can lock Sports Mode by double-clicking the trigger while holding the M button. Then, you can release the M button for a more comfortable grip. To disable Sport Mode lock, you repeat the steps taken to enable it.
Dude, need a tutorial on how you light your weddings. Im blown away by how well lit your wedding films are. Whats in your lighting kit? Whats your set-up like? (How and when do you set-up)....and are you one man team, or or do you usually have a second shooter? Great video on the Ronin! Helped me out tons. Your wedding videos are outstanding! From one wedding videographer to the another, cheers!
Excellent video. I'm glad I found it on RU-vid. The Ronin S is my first gimbal, so your insights have shortened my learning curve. Also, I loved your example shots. You're a fine videographer.
Really great review and info. I picked up the original Ronin not long after release and it's been amazing ONCE I figured out my preferred settings. It's great to see someone break down the configuration options you get with the app because there's so much customization there to make the Ronin work for you personally. The M, MX and 2 never tempted me, but the S has got me ready for an upgrade!
Currently building a product business. I can't begin to tell you how much this would kick start me into the industry! I have so many awesome ideas I'm just struggling to achieve the results I'm after without a stabiliser. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Johnny. I can say that while it's a great tool, you need to work on composition and a lot of other things when you're first starting. Don't let camera movement crowd out the fundamentals and keep you from learning. Have fun!
Thanks for the great advice. I won't forget that. Im having to be creative on the shoots I'm doing resorting to using the Mavic Pro drone for stabilised footage.
That was such an amazing review on the DJI Ronin-S @The Film Poets. I am 25 years old, an aspiring film maker from India and I shoot weddings and corporate videos for a living. Ever since its release I have been thinking about the barriers we could break in a world of creativity and the limits we could push. This would be really helpful for every film maker to nurture the seeds of imagination. Thank you so much for the contest and understanding our hardships. Keep inspiring always :) :) :)
This was the best review! So In depth and detailed, answered all my questions. I’ve been hyped for this since January! 😍 So glad it’s out and this would be an amazing opportunity to win one! Just started at film school and can already tell a gimbal would be so useful. I’ve got two wedding videos coming up in the coming months so this would be perfect! 😅
This video is waaaay much more than just a review (and giveaway). This is some high end tutorial! I'll save this video to my 'learn' folder on RU-vid, you got my like, my comment AND earlier today I subscribed, because people recommended you. Love the content you put out, thanks!
Excellent comprehensive review, frustrating not being able to purchase anywhere as everybody is out of stock and yachts don't stop rolling and the Osmo isn't up to it. Need the Ronin S for our commercial vids for clients - Thumbs up and subbed.
This Ronin Gimbal will be truly amazing for improving the quality of independent filmmakers, by having such a low-profile, great ergonomics and just adaptable to so many systems!
Crane 2 doesnt have as many features but if you shoot with canon, being able to control the aputure, iso and shutterspeed without having to touch the camera is a game changer. I shoot with a 1dx ii and a 24-70 and it works epic!
This video tipped the scale for me in favour of the Ronin S over the Crane 2. Thanks for the insights, this video was super helpful. Your footage also looks amazing, btw.
Wow amazing and thorough review!! Awesome footage samples as well! So excited for it to become available, I think this may have to be one of my 2018 investments! Goodbye Glidecam? Guess I'll find out! Thank you!
That video was very interesting as to why the DJI Ronin-S is a game changer all the way! You really went in depth with how it works & what features there are etc. I really enjoyed watching and seeing it in action all in one :)
Like always great review/video/tips! The Ronin-S looks like a gift from God and as a complete but passionate noob in videography and still working hard to get my first professional looking video online, this would take my current setup and work to the next level. Whoever wins it, make sure you enjoy it! Keep it up, love it!
Congratulations on this review, the best I've seen on the Ronin-S. You should be DJI's embassador, so many good advices and info. Great footage you have!
Wow - Matt - this is the best Ronin-S review & professional tip video I've seen (and I've been researching thoroughly). Just SUBSCRIBED to your channel - your confident, knowledgable, professional presentation and delivery have confirmed the wisdom my choice of the Ronin-S. So looking forward to setting mine up for my 5DM4 and getting to know this tool - and improving my footage! Thanks so much. And, btw, kudos to you for your give-away...highly respectable that you want to help out somebody who is trying to earn a living at this! Cheers and Merry Christmas to you and your family (great looking kids, btw!).
Greetings from Zimbabwe. Fantastic review, thank you. You have made up my mind to buy one. But I will wait for the comp to end, you never know, could be my lucky day that day. Great channel.
As an aspiring Videographer, this device is surely a big help for beginners. In my opinion, the Ronin S is like a big Osmo Mobile (which I have one for making videos) for DSLRs and Mirrorless Cams. Good luck to everyone entering give away. Its Quite exciting 😊
Excellent review man. You had some beautiful shots, and I would definitely hire you if you were local and I had the need. Winning the gimbal would be game changing, but I subscribed before I even knew that was part of the entry.
This was an amazing video and extremely informative! Thank u so much! I subscribed immediately after watching! Thank u! The ronin S is something i would need desperately give that my only form of stabilization is my glidecam, which decided to start sticking! This is something i need in order to help make people’s moments something they can keep forever!
Ugh, that was disappointing to hear about the issue with mounting plates. I have the Manfrotto 701 head. Other than that, I was pleased to see your coverage specifically with the 1DX2 and 24-70 f/2.8, which is my exact setup. Gives me some peace of mind! Thanks.
Man very in-depth and perfect review. Well detailed tips and setup for this. Love it and Thanks a lot for this really going to help. DJI have out done themselves. Great job Mat.
I know I'm late, but maybe someone sees this: -How do you get the Ronin to smoothly go around a corner with you? Mine never ends up facing straight again, and tapping the trigger for it gives a jolty correction. -What to do if "auto-center" has the camera off-center?
I've got family in Utah that I visited recently (im from Denmark) and I just love your channel and the accent from the Area. Thank you for the great guide on this gimball :) Kind Regards from Denmark Jørgen
Hi The Film Poets.....i just discovered your channel.... am looking at my first gimbal and this is by far the best tutorial have seen and i have seen most from Tilta, Zhiyun rane and Ikan etc.....DJI could not have done it better themselves...they need to hire you bro.....ps subbed straight away.....keep up the good teachings.
You do impressive work sir! I do commercial work and have been using the original ronin for years. I've really only used it for large cameras a handful of times and I'm considering making the move over to smaller gear for everything. I feel like these smaller cameras are good enough for 95% of things and the big rigs are not worth the extra weight and headache for marginal gains in quality.
Thank you very very much for these tips! I set up the smoothing and joystick motion according to your guidelines (with a couple of personal tweaks in deadband) and the Ronin works now so much better for me! Thank you!
Great tips, man! And crazy awesome shots you had in there! That dance shot was insane! It's a long shot, but I'm a recent college grad that just started filming weddings full time. I would love to have this in my arsenal if you want to help a broke kid out! :)
Thank you for making this video! I am in the process of buying all my equipment for wedding films and this give away would be amazing. I love that I found your channel this way. I enjoy following people who are really crushing it at wedding films. That is the dream. Right now I do weddings on the side, but I have a two year plan to make it my full time gig so my wife and I can work together and I can spend more time with my daughter. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Matt, thanks for the super comprehensive review. I've been looking into the Ronin-S lately as my friends and I have started our own wedding photo and video company. Unfortunately, as with the new venture comes lots of new purchases that I'm sure you're aware of. From mics to new cameras and lenses it's gotten quite expensive and the addition of this Gimbal would be INCREDIBLE. Thanks for the chance and if you have any questions regarding the legitimacy of our company feel free to message me so that I can show you everything's legit. Thanks again and great review.
Hi man., i just bought the Ronin S today and it is amazing. The only problem i have is my camera. I use the canon 80d and is not 100% compatible. But like a gimbal its amazing, grat video! Hugs from chile!!
Hi ! first of all : A BIG thank you for this review, very efficient, very straight to the point, really like it ! Second of all : I'm a filmmaker in Paris, and in 3 month exactly I have to quit my job and I decided to not getting a new job but try to be a filmmaker full time :) It's gonna be a greaaaaat adventure for sure ! And who knows I might received a Ronin-S from the Film Poets ;) Anyway, once again thank you and keep going, great work !
Thanks for the great review Matt. I have been looking for something that handle more weight. Been using a glidecam but been having some back problems so this might be the ticket for my commercial work.
I am very intrigued by how you managed to pull off the 135mm 1DX mk2 shot...that is by no means an easy or standard shot..many an experienced steadicam op would be very happy to execute that shot...I also see that you don't resort to slow mo to help so how did you manage to keep the shot so smooth?...I cannot believe that the Ronin S is the main culprit...!!!
Great review and Thank you for doing a giveaway! I am a live event Filmmaker specializing in Music Festivals! Couldn't imagine how insane footage would be with the Ronin S. Best of luck to everyone entering!
great video and love that you included mentioning your smooth track settings! I have several travel jobs where size and weight are major concern. i would love to use the ronin-s on those jobs!
