DJJohnny has been investigating a number of strange stepped stones, at the side of main roads - around Warrington! He tries to find out the story behind them including: what they are and why they are there - as well as who was the person responsible for them? He travels around Warrington - looking for clues behind the stones, to try and uncover their secret!
Special thanks goes to Warrington Museum and Art Gallery - including the Library, for their enormous help and support in producing this video - as well as for the images used, for which I am very grateful! I would also like to thank Warrington Memories - on Facebook, as well as various historical web based forums! Thanks for all your help!

Fantastic video Johnny. Not Warrington, but Rainhill has one next the Cenotaph on Warrington Road opposite St James Road. I believe it was originally located closer to Rainhill village on the junction of Warrington Road, Victoria Street and View Road. Which is known locally as Kendricks Cross.

Thanks for this William - very much appreciated! Someone else said there was one at St Helens too! So the stones seem to be in these areas! I wonder if the stone that you describe was the first, as it mentions James Kendrick - the instigator of the travellers rest stones! Is there by any chance a number on the stone? If it is No 1, then it could be the very first and they then spread along the main road to Warrington! This is so fascinating! It’s like searching for the holy grail!! Have a great evening and thanks again for your help! 😀😀😀

I must have gone past these stones thousands of times without realising. I'll look out for them in the future.

It’s amazing what history is there if you look! If you find any more, please do let me know!! So many have disappeared, which is very sad!

One of these stones is at the end of my road! I never knew this is where they came from. It's a shame they're overgrown - I might go out and restore one, Lol!

Thanks for this Nik - your help is much appreciated! I have been told of a few extra stones on my Facebook Page - DJJohnny at JDMFM, some in the St Helens / Rainford area! So it looks like they spread some distance towards Warrington. Such a fascinating treasure hunt! Thanks again Nik!

Thanks so much for your lovely comments Gary. Glad you enjoyed my little video. I am currently researching Latchford, with a hope of doing this series in the new year - subject to lockdown restrictions. Sadly, I can’t get to the library at the moment, to do my detailed research, which was needed to research info on the Travellers Rest Stones. But I am hopeful that I can put something together, with the help of various individuals, who have kindly offered to help! So watch this space! Hope you have a great day! 😀😀😀
