He used to deserve the hate, not so much now. To me some stances of his are questionable at best but hey that's life if he is happy with the path he takes and is up for the consequences that's on him. Also 2s company 3 is a crowd any combination of entering the big against the big 2 making it 3 will not be as equal. Rarely in sports do you get a 3 way equal rivaly in terms of fan love. Also the contrasting styles contribute to Nadal and Fed big time.
You nailed it. We''ve been blessed to have had the three GOATS (who are all great guys) ruling tennis and competing against each other the past two decades.
I'm afraid i must have undervalued Novak Djokovic's sportmanship in the past, but from a Federer's fan point of view, i have to admit this speech is incredibly profound and heartwarming. Credit to him.
he has always been so eloquent and speaking highly of his opponent! never blamed anything in defeat, always gracious! it's the media that portrayed him like that!
It will not change anything. We love him from the beginning and always saw his talent, sportsmanship, spirit, modesty and greatness. How people didn't see that from the beginning is a mystery ...
Flanker umm . I'm not sure about that. Speech was over done, a lot longer than Nadals ', almost cringey. Too much has happened before. Yes they have respect for each other , that's fine and that's it. Djokovic said in an interview a few months ago that your rivals cannot be friends. I think he was referring to himself and Nadal at that point. Wonder how many people noticed that in nearly all the photos off court that were taken at the laver cup even when Nadal was there, Novak put himself right next to Roger all the time. A bit of ' look at me, I'm next to Roger '. He is a good man in many ways, but remember Federer and Nadal also give millions to charities. I'm.afraid I will never agree that Djokovic is 100% genuine and sincere. There have been too many controversies on and off court over the years to.make me change my mind, unfortunately some from his family too. Sorry .

Some people dont like him because of his appearance on the court, but he is just fighting every time because he wants to win. On the end of the match, and you can see that with every loss, he sincerely smiles and congratulates to his opponent. From the heart. Like this speech. To be a great sportsman you must be a great man, and I strongly believe he is. Good luck Nole

Djokovic is propably a good person. And his fighting spirit is also impressive. But, when he is stucked in anger/frustration, he can't see anyone else. For example, he of course didn't mean to hit the line judge in 2020 us open, it is just his head was fully occupied by the emotion that he was not able to notice where the line judge was. These incidents are not making good impression. Then when ppl finally started to forget about the line judge thing, he threw racket into the stand in Tokyo Olympics. He basically kept refreshing ppl's memory about the bad impression.

Nole has had the hardest time of any player to stay on top, he always chose the road less traveled and yet always gave credit and admired his rivals no matter what. We are lucky to witness such a warrior that is so compassionate towards future generations and those less fortunate.
Fedals are favorite star by western media. Those medias always expose bad things, igonre his achievement & even bully everythings about Novak. So, Novak always fight against the preassure by western medias as Monica Seles did. Monica is from east europe too. Monica broke steffi graff's supermacy & won consecutive 8 GS before 20 yo (RG, USO & AO). then western media started to bully her. Even they complained about her grunting. The worst thing is she was stabbed & they let the criminal not in jail & let him live free. Monica got big trauma & lost her 3 years prime times 1993-96 for recovery. Before stabbed, she was young lion on all surfaces. She was strong player, a combination of Nadal & Djokovic. They killed a young girl's big dream. Elites politic always use mass media to provoke people, brain stroming & finally destroy their object on so many ways. Deceitful way & dirty
I have to admit, really changed my mind about Novak. Very sorry that wasn't able to see his greatness. All those 5-hour matches rooting against him kinda does that to a person. This year, from begginig, how much heat he had to take banning him to play in Australia and USA, and remained his spirit like this, without looking back, giving his best to say goodbye in this event to Roger, on court and out is really mind-blowing. He even got out injured, risking bigger injuries. Undeniably unbelievable
lol it took a speech about your idol and an exhibition for you to realize his greatness? what a joke He has been great for a very long time and it shows what kind of person you are from your comment

The fact that Djokovic has acknowledged the contribution made by Roger’s family tells us the extent to which Djokovic himself is grateful to his own too. This is particularly important to mention as you live in a day and age where the concept of family and whatever goods come with it is horribly disparaged. I really appreciate the knowledge and awareness that Djokovic has demonstrated to us, telling us he along Roger are more than mere tennis professionals players!
I think that's a common narrative, but most people very much value family and friends in modern times. There are some issues such as extreme inequality and also disparagement caused by differences between progressiveness vs conservatism in society and family, but being social and receiving social support remains a core feature for most, regardle of their position in life and society.
nah bro we love a sense of community; what's being disparaged is hyperreligious or hypertraditional people masquerading their poorly conceived dogma as 'family values', a very common theme in my part of the world (se asia), the middle east and of course America.
@@abcxyz123 Some stats beg to differ, at least in the US. Some estimates go so far as to say 70% of black children are raised in fatherless homes (or at least, the father isn’t married to the mother). That number for white people is as high as 28%, which is way up compared to previous decades as well. The divorce/separation rate in the US is almost 50%. So tell me family and retaining the closeness of family is still being valued? Wives and husbands count as family. And, to point out the obvious, just by the fact that 350+ liked the original posters comment clearly this sentiment is felt widely and even internationally. There is something about family that is being disregarded.
What an incredible champion Novak Djokovic. An amazing athlete astonishing sportsman and magnificent spokesman. Novak always appreciated his opponents so highly. God bless you and protect you
I love Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. All three of these guys have brought tennis to a new level. There is something that gives Novak Djokovic the advantage in my mind. It has nothing to do with his tennis ability either. I think his connection to the spiritual world is the highest of the three. He has had full tennis stadiums booing him but yet he always finds a way to rise above it. I don't think he get enough credit for how tough he is mentally and how he speak eloquently straight from his heart.

The thing I like about Novak is that he doesnt fake his own persona in this situations. Yesterday, he was very low profile and didnt went into tears only for the cameras. I hope he can win all the Grand Slams possible.
Djokovic doesn't always come across as the nicest guy on the court, but an absolute class act with a microphone when speaking about his fellow competitors.
You must consider wider image..Yes it is true Novak sometimes act bad on tennis court, cant hold his emotions etc.. But also there is a fact that he have to deal with hostile crowd his entire career..Its hard such thing not to leave you some scarves (if i wrote good), and its hard not to be more emotional on court in such circumstances. But overall Novak is very nice person.
It’s 50/50. Yes, he can act out on court at times, but he’s also one of the very few who claps for the opponent when he played a good point and he also one who spoke out for smaller players in relation of higher payment. Of course no one talks about these things.
It's really sad to see media or people treating this champion the way they do. He may have his flaws on a court (but who doesn't? Anyone who played competitive sports knows that you're a different animal when thrown into the ring), but he's always been a model. Novak is great champion with a big heart, he brought his style and paved the way for the new champions (pretty much everyone is modelling Novak's style now). A generational talent and one of the greatest athletes I've seen all sports combined. His stamina, consistency, mental strength and agility is unmatched.
Its because variety of reasons: 1. He has very diferent personality than Federer and Nadal who have similar temperament(both are very much laid back and a bit of introverts). Novak is literally everything opposite. He is very communicative and extroverted. Its impossible to expect everyone has the same persona. So basically, everybody who does not act the way they do, is described as a villain, even though he is not, cuz comparisons, you know. 2. He came in the middle of Fedal rivalry that was believed to be one of the best rivalries in tennis and proved that he was their equal (or sometimes even better). Djokovic - Nadal is the biggest and most iconic rivalry that existed in tennis so far. Some ppl still have it hard to accept that, but if I lie, numbers don't. 3. Marketability. He is from a small country called Serbia, and to be fair, no one ever really cared about Serbia lol. Take a look at Emma Raducanu and Iga Swiatek. Iga is so far much more succesfull, but since Emma is British, she is marketed much more and even attended met gala! It is, to some ppl, better to promote a Spaniard vs Swiss, than someone from 'Eastern Europe' (even though Serbia is part of South Europe). Brits still try to push the narrative od Big 4.🤷 4. Everytime there is some 'trinity' someone has to be the black sheep. 5. His vaccination status: I know. It feels so weird that in this day and age ppl will literally cancel you bcs u don't want to put a substance in your body bcs : "everyone else does". Its sad that ppl are manipulated to think they have no choice for their OWN FREAKING BODY. Especially when its proven that jabs are not as effective as your TV says. But this is a story for itself. Sorry for long comment. Im a big tennis fan and it really ANNOYS the hell out of me when mainstream media try to ignore this man when talking about biggest rivalries in tennis Novak is no where in the top ten list, but Fedal is like always in top 3. Like 21 GS never happened, like his records do not exist. In reality if somebody would want to be called the GOAT he will have to break majority of Novaks records.
@@dv2400 Perfectly put..Ur prob the only who could make a true articulate statement like this..Every of ur explanation about the various reasons of why Novak is treated bad,as a villian or any negative shit as opposed to his rivals(Nadal and Roger) is totally spot on rightfully so and Novak isn't even my fav player..Both Rafa and Roger was/is always my preference..But this doesn't mean I have to be biased for my fav ones nor favored them.I just stand the truth.. But like u said,if we're being honest, theres none, literally none has never managed to capture all of the Masters 1000 tournament, but Djoko has done it twice. !!..Few of the reasons why he is simply the Goat. Had the record for the longest week as World No 1.. Had an advantage against his rivals in their H2H matchup..27-23 against Roger and 30-29 against Nadal.. Won 4 slam in a row twice in his career... Won 10 Big Titles in a season(3 slams,6Masters,1Nitto Finals)which is the most and appeared in 15 Finals which is also the most for a player in a single season.. Won the most points by a player in a single season..16,340pts.. Won the most M1000 Titles.38 Neither of em never beat Novak at his turf but Novak himself has able to do so beating Roger 3 times at Wimbledon all in a Finals and beat Rafa at Roland Garros twice .!!! Won the most Big Titles with 64,the closest him being is Rafa with 59 and Roger with 54 Big Titles.. Also reaching the most Grand Slam Finals and Semi Finals..When it's all said and done, there's no doubt for me he will end up winning the most slams for sure... I mean,if we see things in a perspective way and view in a non biased view point, safe to say Novak is better than his arch rivals and the stats is there to prove so.. That said,we all have our opinion and some might disagree with me and there's none wrong with that, but objectively speaking,Novak is the Goat in any metric and area of Tennis game. ..
@@francis3294 also it is worth mentioning that he did all of that for a shorter amount of time! His career is not as long as Rogers or Rafas. Ppl seem to overlook that fact. @@youtubelibrary_10 you're right. If Novak is less apriciate than Fed or Nadal it's because he came "last". The public always wanted Fedal, and Djoko "broke" this rivality. And after 2010 he was mostly winning all the important match against Fed, and the public didn't like it because Fed is appriciate by so many people in the world. He has a big heart and doesn't seem to feel he has gotten a raw deal. He has accomplished great things on the court, as a UNESCO rep, and with his foundation with Serbian children. Roger, Rafa, and Novak are all really articulate champions who are amazing, both on and off the court. Congratulations to Roger for the beautiful tennis you have brought to us. Exactly, unfortunately there are too many toxic fans who don't understand that, but Federer said it beautifully, "people always like to compare who is the GOAT, I see it with my twins everyday. You shouldn't - ever. I am my own career, my own player that needed those challenges. They needed a challenger like myself. We made each other better. At the end of the day, we'll all shake hands and be like, that was awesome. I always say that it's wonderful to be part of that selective group (of the Big 3), but how can you compare what's better, to win when you are young or old, to win on clay or on grass, to have super dominant years or come back from injury? I don't know. It really is impossible to grasp". I am a huge Novak fan, and I believe that there will never be another Novak, the same thing goes for Nadal and Federer. We are so blessed to be part of that unique tennis era of the Big 3 in our lifetimes, we should enjoy.
Djokovic was mocked, separated, arrested, suspended, they tried to destroy him, remove him ... and yet when they needed him like in this weekend to support his teammates who did not support him when he needed them, he was there ..... And when Federer needed him to be in his farewell, he was there ... and in a humble and respectful way .... A gentleman, a hero, a legend Novak Djokovic. All players including Nadal and Federer should learn from him ...
That is an awful take on the situation. Djokovic is a vital piece of Federer’s history. I believe they all respect each other. Politicizing things in such an ugly way is uncalled for.
@Michael Zhu Stop jumping like a lunatic. The lady was obviously speaking about Federer not giving any moral support to Djokovic during his personal nightmare. The man was and still is crucified. You are not going to jail if you support someone just because your government doesn't support him. Have you heard about freedom of speech? No? Seriously? Grow up.
Love Novak. What a gracious generous guy he is and a magnificent tennis player. The world will never see the like of the 3 of them again. Novak, Roger and Rafa. So privileged to have lived in their era! Thanks guys!
Djokovic is Absolute class!!! The Big 3 are surreal how great they are in every facet of life. I had new found respect for Djokovic when he stood like an ox & never swayed from his conviction refusing the vaccination. No matter how much he was losing & the injustice bestowed upon him. The Three Amigos will forever have an inseparable bond. What a dedication to the Swiss Maestro!!!!
He and his team did some immoral lies surrounding his COVID and the situation, and his scientific beliefs are either great or silly (check his book). BUT, he also deserves credit for many things and imo he's a mixed bag - but again he deserves full credit on many things on and off the court.
@@abcxyz123 he's a complex human (like most people are under all) and puts it all out there. some other people only speak like a PR script to be honest. and by the way Djokovic only revealed his status in an Australian court - he in no way wanted to become a totem pole for internet crazies on that subject. it was his own decision and thousands of athletes worldwide have made the same one.
Standing your grounds and not selling your 'soul' when in run for the GOAT title, is something that humanity will never forget. Djokovic is the great human being!
what is scary is the fact that Novak still has a LOT in the tank at his age. Stamina, agility, strength, speed, everything is still top-notch. That 6-2 frame is also a lot leaner than Nadal and Federer with a style which is less prone to injuries. By the time he is done, there should be no doubt, record-wise, that he should be the greatest.
I agree with you 100%, he still has the potential to play top notch tennis for another 5 to 10 years, if he remains healthy, hungry and injury free. I just hope that he'll be allowed to play in Australia and in the United States next year. The vaccine regulations are so stupid.

Exactly, the same thing I was thinking. I am a Djokovic fan but I was extremely saddened about hearing the news on Federer's retirement. With that being said, I would love to see Djokovic and Nadal dominate even more on behalf of Federer, now that Federer has retired. I have vivid memories of how Federer dominated men's tennis in 2006 and 2007, how well he played Wimbledon in 2012 and his Renaissance in 2017, but now it's for the other two greats to continue his legacy. Looking back at what Federer has accomplished and him retiring with all the legends paying tribute to him, and being and playing alongside with him, makes me happy. A lot of people feel sad that Federer has retired and I do too as millions of others, but him retiring at such an old age of 41, is a great result and a testament to his longevity. Hopefully Rafa and Nole will be able to play top notch tennis till their late thirties or early forties too.
Beautiful words from an incredible athlete. It was amazing to have Novak, Andy and especially Rafa (who had me in tears) there for this singular moment in the history of our sport.
Like Federer,Novak always says the right things.and hes definetely keeping the sport alive.hes a true gentleman and champion and fans just gonna love him more and more.
As a Federer fan I have never been a Djokovic fan. He has made some mistakes in his career Federer and Nadal have never been close to make and paid a heavy price for it. Guess what? It’s time all Fedal fans let it go and gives this guy the respect he deserves. He may have his reasons for this speech but it actually doesn’t really matter. It’s so unbelievably well spoken and no matter what it shows us the respect he has for his greatest rivals and the sport itself. Roger and Novak had always had their differences and a much more complicated relationship than Rafa and Roger. I think what Novak really tried to say here was “I respect you, please respect me”. They will never have the friendship Rafa and Roger have but I hope and believe that Novak during this weekend gained a new respect from Roger. At least I hope so since he deserves it. Edit: Roger follows some of the tennis players on Instagram. Almost all the top guys but Novak has not been included. Until after this weekend. I guess he finally earned the respect he deserves:).
I have personally met both. As much as I loved Novak, Roger, suprisingly stroke me as an amazing genlman and beautiful human being... But see... One is our perception and.. Another media persona and PR. From my experience: Djokovic is the best on court and OUTSIDE. He is real...Just AUTHENTIC! All the best to Roger in the future!

Coming from a Rafa and Roger fan but man I love Djokovic, honestly didn’t like him during like the 2011-2015 seasons when he used to rage and break rackets here and there but he’s a lot more composed now and tbh I think he’s gotten some mannerism from the legend Roger Federer as him and Rafa will now be the Ambassadors of the sport. It’s hard not to like this guy idemo nole❤️
