Why did he stall initially when he was able to pick the train up easily on the second go? He wasn't slowing for a signal was he?

Those MTU engines were not designed for that sort of work. The DL Class have been very disappointing, worse still, KiwiRail kept on buying more!

and they are decommissioning the EFs which are more powerful than these Chinese imports efs 4000hp Dls 3600hp

The EF's Do a way better job than DL's let's face it the EF's were the Queens of the king country and the heart of new Zealand before those Dog & Lemon Locos arrived
