Same here. I almost exclusively use digital/pdf these days. In this case, I bought the bundle to support Keith and the setting. I do own other hardcovers, but it's been a very long time since I've held one so beautiful and well presented. This book is everything I could've hoped. This is a must own for any fan of Eberron.

I think that it's cool that you can just reflavor the circle of forged as a "elemental" beast form. Like a ice/cold themed wolf or fire bear form. An elemental Moon druid or a machine moon druid
@EclecticMystic
@EclecticMystic 4 года назад
Personally, I think Druid's Wildshape needs to get a "Turn Undead > Channel Divinity" shift, to make it more about channeling nature magic in different ways, with one of them being changing into animals. But then each subclass has a different way to use it.

This whole book looks incredible, but I’m especially excited about the Ruinbound Dwarves. They’re really everything I’d expected thematically from Duergar, and I’m hoping to update my duergar bard NPC that I’ve been using for almost 6 years in my various campaigns.

Personally I like all of the little touches the book has. I actually ran a session where the party was storming a Cannith manufactory in the Mournlands that was later taken over by the agents of the Lord of Blades, and while they were going down a corridor into a guard room, the guards started lobbing blast disks at them, dealing all sorts of kinds of damage much to their annoyance. XD

I got both the digital and physical copies. I can't wait to get the hardcover! I don't know a single person who is even interested in Eberron, but it's my favourite setting. I really want to play as a Seeker Aasimar who was in the Order of the Onyx Skull before it was disbanded. Going with the theme of the Blood of Vol, Hexblade warlock, except all conjured weapons are made out of blood. Maybe a little bit of paladin in there too

If the DM's Guild shipping for the hardcover to Brazil wasn't too exclusive at the point to be almost the same price of of the book I'd bought it already. Amazon charges me like 7-13 usd for 1 book shipping. DM's guild wants to charge me 40+ which is impossible for me, unfortunately. And no I don't want just the PDF.

There should be no mystery in a company generating in-demand product. Not that I wouldn't go hard into some updated Dark Sun or Planescape, but it's not getting the demands that new Eberron is getting. And I get it, Eberron is a damned fun setting. For now, I think you better get comfy with Eberron. Like technology, while the are always outliers clinging to older tech, mostly, evolution matches forward, not back. I'm not confident Dark Sun is coming back. We the old guard who played and enjoyed that setting are quite outnumbered by the newer, huge fanbase currently driving this revival.

Man, this looks outstanding. I'd love a copy of this (free or otherwise) since I love the magic cyberpunk world build of Eberron and definitely want to play a campaign in it, and also I am designing my own home brew setting based on Warring States Japan but also is the edge of the world/close to other planes, and just looking at this vide gave me some inspirations so having the actual content would sure to fire things up for me.

I don't for a moment understand PC gnolls... they're supposed to be a pure evil, a "bad guy" so bad that the characters don't care about killing them. As a PC, that's a homicidal lunatic, far more unstable than the much ballyhooed "murder hobo"... Or, you want to play them in a humanized, cultured sense, in which case, they'll bear no resemblance to the gnomes you currently enjoy. It's like asking to play a battle droid in Star Wars. Or a crash test dummy. Or a fucking lightning bolt. This generation of players are fucking dumb. The more character creation they demand, the more I'm convinced that they aren't creating interesting characters regardless of what options they're offered.
@ryanflake3481
@ryanflake3481 4 года назад
I get what you are saying, but they actually have a pretty interesting take of Gnolls in Eberron. Without getting too long winded, in their history a great leader rose up among them and declared "This demon worshipping bullshit has gotta end, because they don't give a crap about us!". Not all the Gnolls followed him, but lots did. So now those that followed have a sort of meta-tribe made up of smaller tribes that have found that the best way to not serve any master but themselves, while still engaging in the sort of battle that the demonic seed within them craves, is to be mercenaries. That way, they aren't serving anyone but the almighty dollar...and setting their own prices as they see fit. This supplement gives a pretty solid write up that keeps them pretty tribal and prone to viciousness, while giving a playable race that brings something new to the table. I am not saying it would work in every setting, but Eberron really leans in to the "Abandon your preconceptions" thing, and this is a fitting outgrowth of that approach.

Not every world in d&d is a world where gnolls are irredeemable monsters just like how eberron has a different take on goblins it has a different take on certain gnolls, as an example in my world gnolls are just race hyena people, none of that demon influence shit.

@@ryanflake3481 not that interesting. I think you're being generous with the application of that word. I'm trying real hard not to be the stodgy old guy who shits on everyone's good time, but I have to be honest here, if there's great D&D games happening, they're not in my neck of the woods. The last couple years as 5th ed has really exploded in popularity I've taken some time to watch the "CelebeD&D" crews, and listen to what's being played at the tables of the cons I attend, and what I hear/see is weak sauce. Players with so many options there's no spontaneity in their character's responses... shit, i don't often see players "in character" at all, instead the norm seems to be a 3rd person script readthrough instead. I hear charismatic DMs more interested in presenting the coolest NPC ever than in encouraging shy players out of their shells. And I hear a cubic assload of thinly skinned module playthroughs that disavow mutual storybuilding and creative roleplaying almost entirely. They are, in essence, playing a video game. The strength in tabletop RPGs is that you have a much wider array of choices at the table in how to respond to a plotline than you in a console or PC game, and what I see is more "what's the next skin I can download" rather than "how can I talk my way out a civil war" kind of playing. And the company does't help, clearly, there's a much larger financial take in offering up this season's character skins than in a supplement that teaches you how to craft more compelling homebrew narratives. It really falls on each player group not to fall into the pokemonization of the game supplements, but sadly, most seem to succumb. You do NOT, in fact, have to get them all to have a great gaming experience. A single setting and campaign book, if played correctly, like you're filling out a world here, could easily provide a lifetime of playing joy, though I know that's not realistic for most... but think of the enormous and diverse experiences of just a single race, on a single planet, in a single plane of existence, that we're ignoring to play a game in a fantasy setting... if your fantasy realm isn't appreciably more diverse and fulfilling than those actual life options, you've kind of missed the script, haven't you? How many planets in a solar system do you need if you've barely explored one? Ask yourself this, when you look at your gaming shelf, have you ever tallied what you've spent? Looked at your shelf and said "christ, I could have shimmied up to Boston and taken a whale watching tour for the cost of this shelf of books?" Now, I'm not judging you for making the choice, we're all adults here... but continuing the thought experiment, were the hours spent playing those games more interesting than sea sickness to watch a species that a scant few decades ago was on the endangered species list? And now, because of real people, doing real work, that species is off said list? Because trust me, you'll understand and appreciate that work immediately in the presence of those humpbacks, in spite of the cold, and the seasickness, and you're going to want photos despite the risk of losing your phone to the mighty Atlantic. So if your games weren't at least "battle illness, risk your most precious magical item, weather the elements, save a species, watch others enjoy your hard work while you namelessly slink back into the shadows" cool, what exactly were you doing with that game investment? Because it's only one option of a myriad before you.
@ryanflake3481
@ryanflake3481 4 года назад
@@kiltedcripple Well, first off...I was interested, so interesting is the right word to use in that context. Might not interest you, but it interested me, and others might share that so I don't thing it was overly generous. As for the rest of what you are saying.... It does have a hint of the "old man yells at kids that they are having fun wrong" to it, but as a fellow old guy, I get where you are coming from. I left D&D years ago, when 3rd edition started turning it from a Role Playing Game into a series of flow charts and math simulator. I went on to some of the Storyteller System games, and others that would let me focus more on telling that collaborative story, and improvisational character study than just having to buy books to keep up with what prestige classes players would start begging to let them have. I only came back to this system when Eberron was released specifically because Eberron has a rich and engaging setting which throws out a lot of the tired old tropes and allows for the stories to be flavorful and nuanced RPing experiences with less baggage than the myriad books worth of forgotten realms stuff, or the handcuffs of the "Great Wheel" cosmology being used to justify people dragging stuff in from other settings willy-nilly. It's not a homebrew setting that is totally customized for just my table, but it is a setting that I really enjoy which stands on its own two feet. I own 2 D&D books apart from the "main 3" of the PHB, the DMG, and the MM. Rising from the Last War was more than enough to serve as a setting and Exploring Eberron was something I bought only because I really enjoy the world that Keith Baker created and I wanted to read more of his lore for my own enjoyment. So it isn't a quest to fill a shelf, or collect them all, it is just enjoying and appreciating a singular world and fleshing it out so that my players have a more rewarding experience when they declare "Well, let's go to the Mror Holds!" Out of nowhere and I as the DM have to adapt. As far as you not being impressed by the Players and DMs that you have seen out there, that's a matter of personal taste that I don't think you can really lay at the feet of an edition of the game. Those same players handed AD&D, or 3.0, or whatever would still be those same players and DMs, and it is experience that develops us in to more. If anything, the popularity and accessibility of this edition has brought in a lot of inexperienced people, and you are seeing that....but down the line, when they have grown into the hobby more like us ol' fellas... Some of them are likely to be fantastic examples of Role Playing ability. Don't throw in the towel or lose faith in the hobby. Take heart that it has been revitalized with new blood, and some of those may one day be as good at things as you or me. Then they can condemn the people who are playing 7th Ed as whippersnappers who don't know *real* gaming.
@kiltedcripple
@kiltedcripple 4 года назад
@@ryanflake3481 it sounds like you and I play very similar games within or respective spheres. Not that that's necessary to bond but it sounds like a common ground. Agreed entirely that shitty players didn't start with 5th ed, my hypothesis is that 5th ed actively encourages that style of play. They certainly spend more time and money promoting it I do largely agree also that Eberron is the most intriguing setting that's currently getting product support. I don't entirely disagree that gnolls couldn't be functional player characters, I just don't see why that's a necessary add-on when the setting has already done essentially the same story with orcs, and brings a nice selection of new races to explore if that plot thread isn't intriguing to you. At best, gnolls fell like the next race to get Ebberonized, for me. I truly hope that didn't keep being a feature, because at some point, it becomes a transparent sales tactic. I'm not at all put off by D&D considering newer attitudes towards older races either, let me be clear there. Like the upcoming Vistani re-write... so long as it's well done story, no complaint. My disappointment with Eberron gnolls isn't directly a strike against gnolls, just that it feels really derivative of how they explained orcs. Give me a more compelling story, I'm 100% interested. That said, there will always be a once for alien races, giant monsters, "explicit bad guys" that need to be stopped/ killed whatever. Not every villain deserves sympathy or a redemption arc
