Dmitry Pirog - Is a Russian former professional boxer who competed from 2005 to 2012. He held the WBO Middleweight title from 2010 to 2012, and although his career was cut short due to a debilitating back injury, he is one of the few professional boxers to win a world title and retire undefeated. Pirog's first world title shot arrived on 31 July 2010, against fellow undefeated prospect Daniel Jacobs, with the vacant WBO Middleweight title on the line. Pirog scored a major upset when he knocked Jacobs down with a hard right hand. Jacobs was unable to get back up and the referee waved off the fight, giving Pirog a knockout win and making him the new WBO Middleweight champion. Pirog's final record stands at 20-0 (15 KO's).

Jeremy Wilson Since when? Most African-American boxers seemed to have the best defense to me... and a lot of other people. Russians are mostly known for their aggresive style.

the reason he is different is because he said he studied American fighters like sugar ray Leonard and Floyd Mayweather. so he incorporated their styles into his own for a very unique aggressive defensive style. it's absolutely fucking Beautiful watching him box.

Look behind the referee when he KOed Jacobs. You will see first man who stands with yellow black striped tie. His the president of WBO and his expression shows the fight didn't go planned and I love it

Which is so rare he was a rare russian european fighter most of them don't know what defence means and rely on toughness, most of them tough meatheads with skill he was a intelligent fighter and person with the toughness what makes him truly complete

@@kiboma4209 Loma who got hit with 50+ significant body strikes by haney? all due to his all offence and no defence style loma still fights like he is in the amatuers he doesn't have good defence, or usky who has been dropped multiple times and lost his last fight? beterbiev offence is his defence he has been dropped for this too none of these guys have good defence good foot movement and top tier boxing yes I fully agree but defence? Should watch them fight and not just when they are winning you will see what I saw years ago

This guys is one of my favorite fighters and I've learnt alot from watching him. I use alot of techniques in sparring and stuff. Truly one of a kind..He has perfected the shoulder roll the right way by using leaning the correct foot work that goes with it. Such an excellent fighter. I personally I think he would have beat Canelo and GGG with his ring intelligence alone...

Facts When I first saw him and watch more of him I came with the conclusion that he was definitely a S class fighter not only that but he would Emmulate a lot of mayweather and James toney defense into his own using both stances and having that lateral footwork plus constant pressure the guy was amazing It’s a shame what happen to him I would definitely buy a ppv

Nice video on a boxer many forget about. Would have loved to see Pirog vs Golovkin but unfortunately that fight was thrown out after injuries ended Pirog's career but I still feel Pirog would have been Golovkin's biggest test at middleweight.

That's what I've always thought. We missed a hell of a fight. I think Pirog would have beaten Golovkin. I know styles make fights but he dominated Jacobs whereas Golovkin struggled with him.

His style is sneaky and he can hit you with unexpected shots. His defense is good this guy should have gotten a title fight with GGG. The way he beat Jacobs was impressive thats a big name in boxing. Jacobs went toe to toe with GGG and held his own.

Pirog should be a trainer! I don’t know much about him after injury retirement but he could do a lot. He is not just a brilliant Russian fighter he is brilliant fighter with nice knowledge worldwide. He have more to offer to the boxing scene.

It would have been any interesting matchup but a battle of minds. I think GGG wouldn't be able to keep would the movement and would have struggles cutting the ring off. Which could lead him to walk into a punch like Jacobs did.

GGG jab wouldve lead to a KO for him. Jacobs jab was causing Pirog head to snap and his jab is no where near as precise and powerful as GGG.

I keep getting these Pirog vids recommended, its always bitter sweet clicking on them cuz I immediately think of how the whole era at middleweight basically went to shit from that back injury. Ruined not just Pirog's career, but in many ways, GGG's as well. And it led to racist narratives against foreign boxers persisting and growing more prominent than ever.

GrandMaster is right, one of the most skilled Boxers I have ever seen. He was defensively supreme and wasted nothing in offense, everything was made to count and he never looked under any pressure even in the pocket under heavy fire, a Complete Fighter. Similar both Defensively to Floyd Mayweather Junior TBE and Offensively comparable to Charley Burley because he could and would hit any target his opponent left unprotected, any mistake or opportunity presented was rarely left unpunished which made him a Truly Effective Counter Puncher.

A wonderful fighter who I was tremendously excited about. We got to see a fair few of his fights here in the UK via Eurosport. Then he sparked Danny Jacobs and just seemed to disappear...
